Whoops! I was planning on reading the Knowledge books to find out if this was kosher, but I probably should have done that before I posted!

I want to make a challenge cache for finding every cache in a particular canyon. Should the difficulty include how hard it will be to find all these caches, or just simply how hard it is to find the physical container for the challenge cache alone?

I'll tell you I would have had no reason to buy 30$ worth of ammo boxes, decon containers, and spray paint today if it weren't for geocaching.

Around Utah Lake the Shakespear caches series (121 long) and the Seinfeld series (200 long) connect, plus there are probably around 50 other wildcard caches thrown in there. It's got to be up there for the longest power trail, at least until the ET Highway opens up.

A guy here just made a hook for the container, and then wrapped the container in Christmas garland, and hooked it to a pine tree. Blends in very nice.

One time I was looking for a cache and found a big white box that said CAUTION: BEES. Thinking it was just some clever camo, I got closer. Luckily I didn't open it because... yes, it was bees.

Go to the maps, and then press the button that says "Print Screen" or "PrntScrn" or something to that effect on your keyboard. Then open up MS Paint, or some other art program, right click and press paste, and crop and save it. Then upload the image somehow (I used tinypic.com) and post it here with img tags.

Sounds convenient.

Here's what you do: think of any unusual or interesting feature in your area. See if there's a category for it. Visit, take coordinates, take a picture, post the waymark. Just tried it. I tried entering the cave that I have as a waypoint on my GC2YKXD. However, it wants to know how it was formed and whatnot, and that is required. I am not an earth scientist so I have no idea. It is almost never visited so there isn't any info online about it. Seems like too much work for a site that's barely used.

I just looked into it. On my first page of search results, it wasn't anything I hadn't already seen driving by. Sorry, but getting out a GPS to find a neon sign doesn't sound appealing to me. Now if there's a bison tube there, that's another story...

-peeks out from under the rock- I did notice that, but it didn't make much sense, so I didn't think anything of it... Gonna message the CO for a hint and hopefully they will give me a good nudge in the right direction. :-) -goes back under rock- Have you visited the location? (Obviously not in the water, but the park next to it?) It may have some sort of monument that has to do with countries that could give more clues.

All I'll tell you is that they all appear to be domains (such as .com, .net, .org) for certain countries.

You say you will get bored soon and that is why you won't buy a GPS. If that is the case, don't be hiding caches later. You need to have a long-term maintenance plan for these things. If you must, or if you already have a plan, talk to a local experienced geocacher. They would more than likely be happy to help you, and let you use their GPS to get a more accurate reading.

I'm a sucker for maps, I don't know what it is about them, but I seem to get addicted to any hobby that involves them. WheresGeorge, and now this. However, I also like to see other's maps. So post a picture of your local area as seen by the geocaching map!

Other than the fact that I can't code at all, have never attended an event, and can't drive? UTAG = http://www.utahcaching.com/ If you are on facebook .. some comments are made there as well. That site is down, and from what I can tell it's been that way for a while. I do follow the facebook page, however.

Of course both, but I love getting e-mails from people who find mine. It's not if lots or few people find it, but if it's more or less than I expected. More people than expected found my first cache, GC2X0RX, which was nice (even though it is sort of a lame cache), but way fewer people than expected (read: zero) have found my most recent cache, GC2YKXD. It looks like it's hard to access on the map, but in all actuality it is probably only a ~500 foot hike from the road plus a cool cave. It's been up since the 20th without so much as a FTF attempt.

In my experience, it seems to be because they can't be bothered to. There is someone in Eastern Utah who seems to spew out 25+ caches at a time, and never bothers to do much maintenance on any of them. However, I was only caching there for a single day, so I might not have the best opinion.

Either they visit a lot, or they know someone in the city they can get to do maintenance for them.
