  1. What's the great body of circumstantial evidence? Thank goodness we live in a country where you are innocent until proven guilty (unless you have money, but that's a different story altogether)
  2. Exactly And empathy comes from anyone who can imagine having been someone who had many caches stolen. Sorry Bittsen, you've got it wrong. Empathy: Co-experience Sympathy: Understanding I lost my father, therefore I can empathize with you losing yours I've never lost my father, but I can sympathize with you about losing yours Get it straight, sheesh
  3. This is what has me so irritated at this whole thread. Did he admit to you that he stole your caches? You people have already convicted him of every theft in the area over the past 10 years. If you have solid evidence that he took your caches, fine. If not, quit making baseless accusations against this guy. Get on with your life for goodness sakes.
  4. Isn't life, liberty, and the persuit of fun one of the certain unalienable rights stated in the Declaration of Independence? Yeah, perhaps this case will go all the way to the supreme court! This is clearly a civil rights case. We can't allow tens of people's fun to be disrupted. Let's march on Washington!
  5. The DA was not in today so they moved the hearing to April 7th. It occurs to me the delay gives everyone a grand opportunity to explain their feelings to the DA. Perhaps a letter commenting that someone spent time and money to create something for others to enjoy at no expense and the disappointment both the hider and finder must feel when they find out the cache is gone. I might then express your inability to understand why someone would go through such trouble to take someone else's property just to ruin other people's fun. Yeah, in case he missed the gravity of the situation in this case. People's fun was disrupted. Perhaps the national guard could be called out?
  6. And operating an unsafe vehicle can not only put you at risk, but the lives of innocent people on the road.
  7. Some of you folks need to be careful about what you are saying in this thread. If, God Forbid, something does happen to this man, whether it be an assault, vandalism, or harrassment, I guarantee that the police will be far more interested in those charges than stealing trinkets from a game. Show the guy some compassion and maybe even a little bit of forgiveness. Even when they maybe don't deserve it. Anger usually does more harm to you than it does to the person it's being directed towards. I've never seen anything good come from a situation where anger rules, but i've seen amazing things happen when someone decides to let go of the anger and show compassion. He deserves to be punished because he stole. How many of you have stolen? How many of you have committed adultry? How many of you have gotten divorced and forever hurt your children because of it? How many of you have addictions that hurt your families? Beat up your spouse? Beat up your children? You better be sure that you are perfect and without fault, because if you aren't, you deserve to be punished in the same way you are calling for this man to be punished.
  8. Anyone know WHEN Repak is scheduled to appear in City Court? If you want to know, call them up. It should all be public record.
  9. Surely, even you can see that the fictional account in question does not meet the standard that was used in Texas. Did you really think that it was stating actual fact? While I was reading it, it was clear that: "The story as a whole was too improbable for that belief to be reasonable.".. Never mind the "Fake News" pop-up that came up right in the middle of reading the first sentence. It was clearly meant as satire.
  10. Our local cache maggot caught wind of a thread were such things were being posed. He posted that he carried a gun and implied that perhaps we should be prepared for someone who was prepaired. His angle was "if you are ready to commit harm for your cache be ready to die for your cache." Of course I read it the other way. He's willing to forwarn people that he's out there ready to kill and that he's wiling to die for his maggotry. He actually doesn't understand that his maggotry relies on our good will and the moment he looses that with the right cacher the price he will pay is pretty high because of the very threat he's made to ensure the good will continues (via fear I guess). Maggot steals cache... CO catches maggot Maggot tries to run CO catches maggot and starts beating him to a pulp Maggot pulls out a gun and shoots CO CO gets charged with attempted murder Maggot gets charged with theft Remove CO actions past "CO catches maggot" and you are left with "Maggot gets charged with theft" Am I missing something here?
  11. Any company that believed that they would take in more money on cache policies sold than they would pay out in lost cache claims! Your Homeowner's insurance likely covers things like the sunglasses stolen from the dash of your car. They know that they will earn more from the sales of policies that cover things like that than they will ever have to pay out, so it's very profitable to cover your sunglasses. In fact the question arises... geocaches are personal property and may well be covered under your existing Homeowner's insurance. Not that you would want to file such a trivial claim against Homeowners insurance, but they're probably covered if you did. I'm not sure homeowners would cover an item that's not on the property
  12. That gives me another idea... What if that cache under the bed is one of those EVIL puzzles, which is casting some spell over cachers within range of its evil mind control powers... a true anti-cache so to speak. And it wil not cease until it is destroyed or all caching ceases world wide... NO disabling or even archiving will be of any use... Possibly a stake through the container... or being muggled by an innocent child... Doug Word spreads of the evil cache. The Nazi's of course take interest, wanting to harness the power of the cache to take over the world. Upon finding the cache missing, the couple head out to reclaim what was theirs (Indiana Jones theme song plays)
  13. You've left out the love interest. Maybe after years of pursuing the maggot, a strange bond develops between the two. They fall in love and end up caching together. But the honeymoon is quickly over when someone's cache is found under the bed. Possibly ending in a murder suicide? I'd watch it.
  14. Generally, you wouldn't get insurance on something unless it had an actual value. I would guess that the majority of caches out there don't real have any real value. That's not to say that you didn't work really hard to put it together and drop it in the woods, but sentimental value is often very different than an items real value (take a sock hand-knitted from your grandmother to a pawn shop to witness this in action) In your example, you said $100 to replace a cache. Apparently your caches are amazing. I haven't seen all that many, but of the 400 or so caches i've seen, maybe 1 of them was worth over $100. Most caches are probably in the $2-$5 range. Also, if you spent $50 on the stuff inside, that shouldn't be included in the value, because you are fully expecting those items to be taken (and replaced with equal value, YEAH RIGHT!)... So, how much would you pay to insure a $5 cache? And what company in their right mind would make any money doing it?
  15. Wow.. Where to start.. Let's say this guy does get prosecuted and pays a fine (which is all that will happen). Does this mean he is no longer allowed to go hiking? According to you, he will no longer be allowed to spend time in the park as a Guide, paddler, troop leader, etc. How exactly do you plan on enforcing that? So the guy is out in the woods with his son and his troop, you going to be a big man and start a fight with the guy with the kids around? Is that your plan? If I was this guy, after all this is said and done, i'd be getting a weapons permit and carrying one with me anytime I was out in the woods, to protect myself from crazies like you. The real question is, are you willing to die because of your missing geocache containers that may have absolutely nothing to do with this guy?
  16. You don't have to cave to this PC crap. Walk over to the temple and ask then directly if they would mind. I'm sure if you explained it to them and re-assured them they you are not intending it as a slight, i'm sure there would not be any problem. Last thing I would do is rely on the advice of the people here (except my advice of course) Good luck!
  17. So many assumptions.... You can't know he was the one that stole all those caches. And honestly, if you invested $600.00 of your own money into a game camera, it sounds like you have gotten a little bit obsessed. I've said way too much. I feel my life may now be in jeopardy.
  18. Why don't you take your thought-out, well-reasoned responses somewhere else... This topic deserves a knee-jerk, one size fits all response.
  19. I think even considering using it as a cache name is sikh. Even asking the question may have offended a man that will probably never go Geocaching. Honestly, I am sikhened by this topic and now I need to go take a shower.
  20. Maybe if there were more signs like this, Geocachers wouldn't venture on to private property.
  21. You just can't expect a cache owner to account for the actions of all the stupid people out there. This is a clear attempt to take the responsibility off of the seeker and place it on the cache owner. Ultimately, it will lead to stupid warnings for the sake of being stupid.
  22. I had a fairly well hidden cache that was removed and thrown away by some citizens that were cleaning up the public park. I was contacted by one of the citizens that told me to not place caches in the park anymore and that the cache had been thrown away. This shows that they were quite aware that it was a geocache, because in order to contact me, they would have to go to the website and look up the cache. Do I believe that they stole my cache? NO Could they have handled it differently? YES They were there to clean up what they perceived to be trash. To be honest, Geocaches are trash to someone who doesn't play the game. And they removed the trash in accordance with their purpose for being in the park. This was a citizen group and not affiliated with the government at any level. And trees are just fuel or building materials to someone who doesn't enjoy nature. That doesn't give anyone the right to cut down the trees though, does it? On my own property or on public property? If it's on my own property, I can do whatever I want to the tree, including but not limited to poking it with a stick and laughing at it. Whoever owns the property would also own the tree. In the case of a geocache, it's placed on someone else's property (with or without permission).. The only case where I believe it's cut and dry is when I place MY geocache in MY front yard.

  24. Further it's the land manager who invokes the law. Not Joe Maggot. You don't get to walk into a campground and steal a tent. The forest service hower can invoke the abandoned property rules and law and deal with the tent. Even when it's 'abandoned' you can't steal it as now it's forest service property. So, if permission were received from Walmart to clean up the lamp posts, the caches could be removed and thrown away? What about public areas? In theory, are not each of us owners of public areas or would permission need to be granted by the government?
