Mega Event: A Statement
The Royles replied to UK Mega Event Committee's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Just because people do not state a reason, do not assume there is none. There is a real world outside of caching that people need to consider. There seems to be lots of comments flying around aimed at bullying people into going, they are just annoying people who would love to attend, but for whatever reasons cannot. I would also like to say that the commitee are doing a great job on such a (at the moment) thankless task, and I support their endevours 100%. Whatever the date, and format of the event I hope it is a huge success. So everyone, take a moment to post a big thank you to all involved for their efforts so far and let them get on with things knowing we are behind them, here is mine THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ARE WORKING ON THE EVENT -
Mega Event: A Statement

snip............It may come as a surprise to you....snip I'm shocked..... and stunned..... Maybe it is time for some "market research" into what it is the MAJORITY of cachers (not just us on the forums and event regulars) would want from a mega-event. I honestly feel that to attract 500 it will have to have something special about it, but of course I could be wrong. -

It may come as a surprise to you, but MOST people are not that bothered about the extra icon. Most want a memorable event, which means being able to spend time at the event, and in the area. Most do not want to drive for 3, 4, or 5 hours, spend a few hours at the event, stay a night and then spend the Sunday travelling home just for the icon. Not sure about the hot coals, must speak to Marzipancurtis -

Not if it is in term time and you have kids. That is the big sticking point for most. -
Ebay selling drilled Scottish Geocoin (Cont.)

You are right, I did make that assumption. I based on the fact that some people on the last thread said they had contacted the seller. -

I certainly will not be getting involved again. Some people here must have read my first post on the original thread and decided that they knew better. -
You can ask.................. if you like censorship.

Thanks for letting us know Bambi, sad it didnt work out. edited on reflection -
Please do not misrepresent people, I dont think anyone is annoyed. Disappointed we cant make it maybe, but not annoyed. I am sure that those who have to withdraw from attending wishes the event all the success it deserves, and will continue to follow its progress.

I think more people will be concerned with it being in term time to be honest. I sincerely hope that being outside of the school holidays does not affect the numbers too much.

That just caused a lager/screen encounter

You been to Vicarage Road this season? I certainly have been swamped with real dross there That aside as a relative newbie to geocaching I would agree that a cache should make you go on a good walk in a nice place or introduce you something interesting (e.g. like the cache I did last week at Sunshine Desserts from Reggie Perrin). I expect some but not all of the sidetracked caches would meet this criteria. Maybe I shouldn't really offer any opinions until I have set some of my own. Even in relatively over-cached North London/Herts, there do seem to be ample places to set new caches without any dilution of the above criteria. I agree. Some people seem to be confusing convenience with quality. What's going on with the quotes too. You got a /quote in the wrong place (fixed for you)

Ebay selling drilled Scottish Geocoin
The Royles replied to qichina's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Yes the listing is active, but the seller has said that it is no longer for sale. Both the original bids have been cancelled, the one on there now is a new one. As far as negative feedback goes, I would not have be leaving any, as far as I am concerned it is just a straightforward sale. -

My bid has just been cancelled, with the item listed as "No longer for sale". I will email the seller to find out what is going on. I hope this doesnt mean someone has been hassling the seller. Andy -

Please resist Wendy, you will only drive the price up. I will post the coin to the owner once I have it. -

If it is yours, what will you do then ? You run the risk of making an issue of the coin. The last time there was a situation like this, people contacting the seller made him withdraw the TBs he had from sale, and they were nearly just thrown away. I have put a bid in, as the other bidder seems to be a collector (so it would not be re-released). If it is yours, I will post it to you (same for whoever the owner is). -

Not a chance (I would have to find it first) Seriously, the coin should be released as per the original owners instructions -

From the experiences last time, I suggest ONE person put a bid in, and help get the coin back in circulation. Until the coin is released NO-ONE should harass the seller, just in case he decides to be silly. I am willing to bid for it, or leave it to quichina, just lets all agree first. -
Would it be acceptable to mention the event when logging a cache (reviewers opinion needed)? If we all did this, and also requested the cache owners put a link on their page word would spread very quickly.

If you mean me, my first line was "I am up for meeting in a field", so count me in (must talk to Mrs. Blorenge about attending caching raves )!
-
I am up for meeting in a field, but I seriously doubt that you will get 500 people to agree to that, and the local authorities may want a say in it. It isnt about "cotton wool" it is about making it more appealing, as well as ensuring it is run responsibly and safely.
