  1. Definitely leave them. It'll be a reminder of how you were able to overcome something that at one time was unachievable. Or something along those lines. And your logs might help a future cacher know what to expect when they go for the find.

  3. I like to see who's visited before me, and if something catches my eye, or if I have time, I'll read the logs others have written. I know my logs at the cache and on the site can differ; with one cache in particular, I hadn't seen any wildlife on the way in - just a lot of tracks. On the way out, I came across a gopher tortoise (endangered species) and stopped to watch it for a while. I was sure to include that in my online log, but it wasn't in my cache log.
  4. That option has been great for me - no more logging in the old-fashioned way multiple times each day. Now if I could just figure out why I'm taken back to the main forums page the first time I click Post Reply after coming back onto the page...
  5. My personal preference is an ammo box - they'll stand up to the weather, you can fit quite a bit in them, and they blend in easily in the woods. Rubbermaid containers get my second choice; there's a new type (new to me anyway) with a screw top lid that closes tightly, so the rain is kept out. One problem is the size of the opening on this type of container - a CD I wanted to put in a cache was a little larger than the diameter of the opening.
  6. Glad I bought stamps the other day. Mine is on the way. Thanks!
  7. When I first heard about Geocaching, I used the computers at work to check out GPS units and caches in the area. One of the pharmacists I was working with asked me what I was looking at, and needless to say he got real interested (didn't take him long to figure out what he wanted to do with the Best Buy gift certificate he'd just gotten for Christmas. ) Soon after that, we had half the pharmacy ready to go venturing into the woods. I think the feverish pitch of the idea died down after I went back to school, but everyone still asks me about it when I go back during breaks.

  13. Holy crap! Maybe its all the Heineken coursing through me at the moment, but that is awesome! Kinda freaky too though... I wonder if the people who laid out those streets did that on purpose... perhaps I should start looking really closely at the shapes of streets on maps...
  14. Wow! That "find" certainly beats the nude sunbathers... Did he happen to post any picutres?

  17. To apply a seldom used (now-a-days anyway) phrase, "can't we all just go caching?" Its amazing how none of the charter membership stuff really matters when you get away from the discussion boards for a while, and get outside with GPSr in hand. Instead of getting all worked up about all of this stuff, pick a cache you haven't found yet, and go hunting. It'll make you feel a lot better.
  18. As best as I can tell, it sounds like a travel bug, not an actual geocache. Here's something that sounds similar The Parasite. I haven't quite figured this one out - it seems that its a cache that's supposed to be deposited in other caches. But the coordinates show it as being several miles off the coast of Georgia in open water.
  19. Definitely leave them for a while. This cache Geocache by Jay has been sitting around since the beginning of September without a find. Of course, its on a sandbar in the Suwannee River, so it'll probably be washed away during the next rainy season.

  21. Sounds like exConn and I have the same idea. Unless its a really short cheat, I'll go ahead and decrypt it before printing. Then I just fold the paper so that I can't see the cheat. If I can't find it after searching for a while, I'll go ahead and unfold the paper and take a look. And I have defnitely seen some pretty bad cheats. A recent example was something like, "take the trail for about 3/4 of a mile, cache is off to the side."
  22. The first item I took from a cache was at the fourth find of my first day of caching. I was in a group of four, and I spotted it first, and we were the first finders. I took a dollar store pool table game (the kind with the spring-loaded pool cues.)

  24. I've been keeping my hiking stick in the trunk of my car since I found it while out caching. It did have a fork on the end, which made it great for moving low branches and overhanging vines out of my way; unfortunately that part was stepped on, and the fork is no more. Its still a pretty good stick just to lean on, and poke around in bushes while listening for that metallic twang or plastic thunk that tells me I've found the cache. Lately, I've also been taking my digital camera - its nice to take a picture of the cache, and there's often some pretty cool views on the way to, or around the cache.
