  1. I've used mine in-flight a number of times (all pre 9/11)without problem. The last time I used it I was invited into the cockpit (still pre 9/11) and rode in the jumpseat for most of the flight. It was an old DC-9, non GPS equipped, and the pilots wanted to play with my toy.

I doubt that I'd get the same invitation these days.

You wouldn't happen to have a copy of the toporama - map conversion file would you? I've emailed the fella who wrote it a couple of times but never heard back from him. It sounds like it would make toporama calibration a heck of a lot faster.

BTW - has DND gone after you yet for using their logo? icon_smile.gif

  4. I can attest to Cliffy's creative genius. His log really does look like a log. And because the bas$#@d hid it amongst a bunch of real logs, it was hard to spot icon_smile.gif

Cacha-Cola was, again, pure creative genius! He is a true artiste!

  6. General rules for a trouble-free border crossing(in either direction)

    1. Bring proof of citizenship for everyone in the vehicle.

    2. Bring written parental permission if you are bringing kids that aren't yours.

    3. Don't BS the Customs Officers. It'll only make them suspicious of your true intentions and could create lengthy delays or vehicle searches, and generally turn a pleasant trip into an ugly and miserable experience.

This has been paraphrased from my wife, the Customs Officer.

  7. Has anyone out there been able to find a site that publishes the positions of Canadian survey markers?

I thought that it might be interesting to test my GPSr accuracy against a fixed known location such as a survey marker, but I can't seem to find a source for them in Canada.

    Anyone?

    Thanks

  8. I've used my GPS on Air Canada and other airlines without a problem.

On one flight (pre 9/11) I was even invited to ride in the cockpit's jumpseat to provide position reports and groundspeed readouts to the pilots because the DC-9 that we were riding in wasn't GPS equipped.

I can virtually guarantee you that it wouldn't happen today.

  9. Using OZI and the free maps (both 50k and 250k)from toporama work fairly well for me. They're not great, but they get the job done, giving me a really good idea of where I want to go and how to get there.

OZI also has a pretty good waypoint/route management system that works with most GPSr units.
