  1. If you fulfilled the requirements then I'd say you're probably fine to log it. If they want to dispute it later then they can but I'd err on the side of taking the smiley.
  2. It's faster now but I was having dial up flashbacks earlier. I scored on my souvenir though and after all isn't that what's important.
  3. I'm still fairly new. I figured out the GPSr pretty quickly because I've always used one hiking but what gets me is that I tend to follow it like it's the Star of Bethlehem and then AFTER I find the cache I clue in that there was a trail I could have followed instead of bushwacking through chigger infested weeds. I'm still using paper. I discovered geocaching about a week after I cleaned out my study closet and pitched all the old electronic equipment including my old PDA. BAH
  4. I too want a pony. or at least ice cream and cake kinda skeered of clowns though
  5. I think they must have been those kids always picked last for the teams in elementary school and now they're taking their revenge. If they have nothing better to do there are a lot of trails out there that could use some sprucing up especially after the latest round of storms.
  6. He's adorable. Enjoy him being all little and cute. My baby is going to be 2 this month. I miss him being little. I also miss the days when he was too little to grab things off the kitchen counter and take off running with them. I do not, however, miss those needle sharp puppy teeth.
  7. I don't know but that picture is hypnotic.
  8. Somewhere on here is a post with a picture of a puzzle cach (sort of). I was an ammo box filled with altoids tins one of which contained the log. evil evil person
  9. I leave little drawings on wooden coins. I suppose technically they're trade items but I usually don't take anything except other sig items. Some people have a rather impressive collection of sig items. I have a small one but I'm sure it will grow in time.
  10. Somehow I just can't see Warner Brothers hauling everyone who uses one of their images as an online avatar into court. Although there was some school near here who had to repaint their gym because they had unauthorized Disney images on the walls.
  11. probably a database error which is nowhere near as fun as starting a war over this Have you checked to see if it looks like someone is living in the bushes outside your house?
  12. The off leash dog parks here in town don't allow children under 12 inside the fence. It sound harsh but I think they're concerned about dogs knocking kids over.
  13. that is awesome I would love to find something like that at the end of a hunt.
  14. Pretty much everyone knows. I've dragged a coworker out on a couple of lunch caches. There are just too many funny stories or odd things I've seen out caching for me to keep it quiet.
  15. I was geocaching in the plaza in Sante Fe this summer. It was fairly early on a Sunday so I didn't think there would be that many people around. There weren't really but at one point we overheard a couple sitting at an outdoor cafe remark at how clever we were using a GPSr to navitage the city. oops We usually have the dog with us. He was actually with us in Sante Fe. That can be good and bad. The good part is that if we're walking around in circles or picking up something off the ground, he can be blamed for it. The bad part is that he's very friendly and it makes it harder to go unnoticed.
  16. The hours might be tough but people do get lunch breaks. Paying to park isn't a deal breaker. Some people might not care for it but I work in the uptown area where there is very little if any free parking during the day so to me it isn't that unusual.
  17. North Carolina: Outer Banks, Grandfather Mountain, Mount Mitchell Arkansas: Hot Springs National Park New Mexico: Carlsbad Caverns Colorado: Pikes Peak, Great Sand Dunes NP Utah: Zion, Bryce Canyon Virginia: Mount Rogers Texas: Alamo California: Yosemite, Lassen Volcano NP, Lake Tahoe I dunno whatever you're into. I'm more of an outdoor person, and yet work in a cube - go figure.
  18. All poetry is about death. It's something I learned in school.
  19. Waymarking? Scenic locations? I didn't expect to ever see those to terms used in the same sentence. Are we talking about the same hobby? Folks create groups, based on specific criteria, such as Burger Kings or Dumpsters? Other folks find spots that meet these criteria, mark the coords and post them as Waymarks to the group? Is that the hobby you suggest I embrace? Perhaps I've been unclear in stating my personal caching preferences, so allow me to elaborate: I prefer quality containers, (regardless of size), in interesting, (to me), locations, with well versed write ups. How that could possibly be interpreted as matching someone who likes dashing from highway plaque to highway plaque is beyond me. As for the "only one Everest" silliness, do you really see this activity as nothing but the two extremes? Since you are unable to locate a place as visually stunning as the world's tallest mountain, you stop trying? Just plop your film cans in parking lots? Your ire amuses me. I don't mean to have it direct at me, its just that I haven't seen anyone taken to the wood shed like this since my cousin burned my uncle's barn down smoking the happy weed.
  20. Well, Shotokan Dan, arming yourself gives you options when that awareness of your surroundings tells you you're in trouble, but you either can't run or it isn't an option because of who you're with. The obvious answer here is to cache with someone slower than you are. Hey you don't have to outrun the bear, just at least one other person running from the bear.
  21. I've seen some pretty clever micros that were all sneaky little urban cammo jobs. I don't want to give anything away but these are in locations where a regular cache would get muggled. I showed one to a coworker of mine and she was shocked because she's passed by it every day to and from her bus stop and never knew it was there. I've also seen guardrails and the sign post ones. The one that was a real headscratcher was a film canister sitting on a guardrail. I strongly suspect that one won't last very long.
  22. I haven't had a LPC yet. Somehow I've managed to avoid them. I'm tempted to go hunt one down just so I can join the outrage.
  23. I'm glad you made it out ok. A weapon isn't necessarily the answer though. I think its better to stay aware of your surroundings than arm yourself. In the interest of full disclosure I have a wicked knife in my car and a canister of pepper spray on a carabineer in my brief bag. Plus I'm a shotokan dan. More importantly I'm a marathon runner so if someone tries something I'm going to take off like a thing perused by the devil and we'll have to start this little encounter over again 26.2 miles away. Ok I can't really sprint THAT far but I can probably sprint far enough to find a security guard with a hero complex to deal with the problem. edited because my ' turned into little boxes ?
  24. I'd almost rather not see physical caches in National Parks. I don't know, if there were some there, I'd probably look for them but somehow it shatters my little illusion that I was the one who followed the well marked trail to discover the summit of Half Dome via cables if there is a cache up there. Ok bad example, but still I like nature like I like my men, raw and untamed but yet respectful and able to pick a good wine with dinner.
