  1. Am I the only one who read the title of the thread and imagined somebody running into an asian buffet and destroying thier wantons? But srsly, I cant believe people would do something like this. People advice of just ignoring those people is probably the best plan.
  2. He did give you a chance to explain yourself, but you decided to play mimic. Which I find hilarious. When I dont want to respond to people I just use the old Stone Cold tatic of saying "What?" to everything they say.
  3. Banned Premium Member......hmmmm. I very new so im wondering how somebody with 20,499 finds and over 500 hides could get themselves banned. Ya figure they would know the rules by then.
  4. We always put things into empty caches if there is room, or give 2 things when we trade for 1 thing. We love finding swag in caches so we try to stock up the ones we find. Nothing to special though. Army men, girly erasers. Stuff like that. Im sure the kids apprecaite it.
  5. I havent noticed any backlash for being a noob on this site. But then again I know how to handle myself on message boards. And so far this is probably the most sensitive board ive ever been on. Thats not an insult, its just because of the wide variety of people who come here.
  6. Do you have any more info about your group? The socal geocachers webpage is pretty much dead.
  7. Maybe you could put a picture spoiler button that hides the pictures until you press the button. That would probably alleviate any issues you might come across.
  8. To extend the"spoilers" aspect a bit; the topic of posting pictures in cache logs comes up a lot here and one of the issues that I often bring up goes beyond posting photos which show the location of the cache or a unique container. Those could certainly spoil the "aha" moment for someone seeking the cache. However, for a lot of caches, the journey to get to the cache location and the discovery of a scenic view, a very pretty hidden spot in the woods, or an interesting object near the cache may be what a specific cache is all about. Posting photos near the cache location can spoil the wow factor of the cache location. For example, one of my caches is about 1/4 mile down a trail that begins at a parking lot. I would bet that most locals don't even know the trail exists, and even those that do, but haven't taken it wouldn't know what awaits as they following the trail towards the cache. There are a few interesting features along the trail then it winds through some high bush close to the cache and opens up close to a very pretty creek with a small cascading waterfall. The contrast of the parking lot and the location around the cache is what, IMHO, makes the cache special and I've asked those that find it not to post pictures so that those seeking it can have the same discovery experience that I had when placing the cache. Some of us will never make it to these locations and enjoy the pictures. I know I did when I looked through his page.
  9. When I hear the term "muggles", I think of pot. Never thought of it as a Harry Potter reference until I started caching since ive never seen nor read anything Potter.
  10. We have only been doing this for 3 weeks or so. After every trip we add more stuff to the box when we think about it. I hope it doesnt continue at this pace, or I will be carrying a tool box around!
  11. I dont mean to be a richard, but a security guard doesnt own the property he is patroling. Unless you are Melvin, Herbert, or Fred Simon.....one of the actually owners of the mall. But I doubt it.
  12. I carry a back pack w/ one of these in it: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/product...PRODID=prd49338 In the top one we carry our notebook, a bag of quarters for parking, pens and pencils and important stuff we need. The 2nd one is full of swag...to the brim. The third one if for tools and such. Gloves, flashlight, compass, first aid kit, batteries. We constantly add things. We also carry a camera of course to document everything we do. In the car we put a small step ladder that we have had to use already, and a fold up extended reach grabber.
  13. The first 6 caches that we went out and searched for were DNFs. Three of those we have recently came back to and found pretty quickly. The more you cache the more you will learn. We have only been going for 3 weeks and have learned tons and found 40 caches. Go for the bigger caches, they are much easier to find. Stick within the 1-2 difficulty. Parks are a great place to cache. Read the logs before you even search. If you see several DNFs, dont go for it. Just some advice from somebody who was in your boat a few weeks ago.
  14. Like IkeHurley13, we have been using a Nuvi 200. Its the only thing we have at the time, and my budget can't afford a proper GPS for a few months. We have found almost 40 caches in a few weeks. And I was able to load PQ's for paperless caching. The battery life sucks though. Set the brightness to low and find some shade!
  15. Then be proactive and sumbit a cache. Who you callin' a sumbit? Hahahaha! My dyslexia bites me in the butt again!
  16. There is a cache in Venice Beach i found last week that I might submit. But I only have a few pictures....probably 3. Would that be enough to submit an entry?
  17. You can say what you want about thier Canadian Military, but that wont stop them from taking you out from a 1 1/2 miles away: "Rob Furlong (born 1976), a former corporal of the Canadian Forces, held the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat, at 2,430 metres (2,657 yd, 12.08 furlongs, or 1.51 miles).[1] This shot exceeded the previous record of Arron Perry set in 2001 just before Furlong's record by 120 m or 130 yd." His record was surpassed by a British soldier recently.
  18. I havent gone yet, but there are what sounds like awesome caches at Griffith Park. You could make several trips there to go caching. I mean, you can get a cache at the actual Bat cave used in the 60's Batman TV show! We are going really soon to do a few of the larger ones that are way out there. Here is an example of one of them: GCHPVW Id like to hear about some more, since we just started a few weeks ago and take trips every weekend to find cool caches.
  19. The only person whos mad is you. You cant handle being told that you are breaking the rules and not following the land owners wishes. It wouldnt be hard to find out the address of the land owner and send them a letter telling them of the situation. Just like it wouldnt be hard for you to take the extra time to talk to them about placing the cache. Its thier land, respect it. Excuse me, im off to go find some reallly dull caches.
  20. We have a really cheap Nuvi 200 that my girlfriend got for x-mas a few years ago from her folks. It works just fine for caching. The trick is finding where you need to go to get exact cooridnates. I set it to pedestrian, and off road to get to the cache. Then I goto tools and press "where am I" to find out the exact coordinates of where im at. We have found over 30 so far in two weeks. Not bad for a 99 dollar GPS (that we never asked for)
  21. Im really new, but I think we have found a nice way to do it since my GPS doesnt hook to my computer yet. I use the google map w/ all the geocaches to plan a trip. I go to the 10-logs page and print that out with the hint decrypted. That gives me all the info, the tip and the a bunch of logs for hints. I plan a trip the best I can, and print out the caches in order. And I always print out extra ones. I put those all in a folder that I keep in my geocaching back pack. My girlfriend keeps a really small log in a notebook. We log every find and DNF in that notebook. After we find one I throw away the paper print out since all the info is in our notebook. That way we both have something to look at while searching. Its worked good so far. And I have the majority of the caches in a 10 mile radius of my house already printed out for me and ready incase we decide to go for a few.
  22. Its 98 miles long in the hot hot heat. That would truely be a feat! Im a poet, and I didnt know it.
  23. Im new. I go caching w/ my girlfriend. So the profile is really ours. Its been alot of fun so far, and great exercise for both of us. Instead of playing Red Dead Redemption last saturday we went on a 7 hour hike through a huge park. And found some really cool caches. Too bad its taking away my drumming time!
