  1. bringing in a little of the wife beater Cidre tonight myself
  2. similar, been a long time since the last one and certainly, i cant figure out how the messages were bought when that much went through the liver :s
  3. sorry ive skipped some of these responses, but wanted to add my two tuppance. I try to make caching into existing family trips, although often (with the yung uns) this relates to nothing more than maybe a cache or two being able to search for, with a rather bored wife in the passenger seat. about to make a special trip for some caching and used to have a caching buddy I would split trips with (his car one trip, mines another) but he seems to have dropped off that radar recently and not cached since a night caching event at halloween. I recently decided to take my eldest camping for her first time, so that is having the campsite chosen for its local caching facilities (oh and toilet facilities!) I also use the pedal power these days, taking the car to a local point. im probably spending about £5 a pop in petrol, but hey, its better than boozing every night imo. having said that, im off for a cider
  4. I'm starting to plan my trip to the glens, first time caching this year. It's been a long time since I was up that way that didnt involve stopping at the hotel's lodges then moving on again and nothing more so im wondering if there are any people out there that have walks/cache treks already planned and caring enough to share their GPX files for inspection? Otherwise im likely to get 3 caches in for the day and discover myself trying to climb a ridiculous hill to find a gentle slope route had been available instead...
  5. Im gonna do somethin dangerous here. Im gonna defend these to a degree. I love both caching and urban caching. Its good to give both a reason to be there though other than "this was within required distance from nearest caches". Getting out and about to local urban caches supports my ability to random cache whereas more planning and time allocation (and persuading the missus to look after the kids) is required. And so for this, to anyone placing urban caches, keep on doing so, if you dont like them, you dont have to do them!
  6. Should have made it a puzzle event, just to toughen it up a little to to 20k standard.
  7. Congratulations! Ive been almost a year since my first cache and not yet hit 100, so ill catch up to you in...... Nah, its not about the numbers.
  8. Several areas id like to cover. C:geo. I use this on my mobile and you can locate nearby caches to your gps location, downloading details over your data network. It can also import gpx files. I have my nearest 1000 caches on my phone and receive my closest 500 pocket query weekly to keep it up to date as easily as possible. This is emailed direct to my phone and uploaded into c:geo. I started caching on my blackberry, a nice free way to try the sport. My friend had a few gps units on a night cache in woods last year and my mobile beat the dedicated units consistantly. Since then I have a new mobile, which is actually a small tablet pc made by dell. I also got a garmin dakota 10 for xmas as I was keen to ensure that: 1) my tablet just lasts a day on normal usage never mind caching. Dont want my mobile dieing when I need it because I was cachin with it. 2) my mobile is a very pricey bit of kit. I drop my blackberry caching so many times I lost count. Dont want to do that this phone. 3) rain. Dont want to risk the wet. The dakota is water resistant. 4) I still use my phone for the odd bit of surprise caching opportunity. 5) looking to place caches and the GPSr does average waypoint easily. I think that those enjoying the hobby well enough may still go for dedicated gps units after a while, but there is nowt wrong with using a mobile device, especially when these can at times outperform other units. Expensive GPSr units may also put some people off, I only got the dakota 10 as I found it at a fantastic price at xmas time
  9. I sometimes really wish I had more time or older children to do some more serious caching than what I can currently do (esp as the doh doesnt do caching ) It's taken an amount of bargaining and bartering to get agreement for the gathering in the glens weekend and even then it is not concrete just yet :s
  10. I tend to avoid ones where the purpose is not known when out and about, in case I hinder it, but generally will pick them up, but id expect 2-4 weeks to move one on. juggling a very small personed family, running a home, working etc. time can be quite limited. I dont think I got any caches in May for example.
  11. Here is my entry for June. 10 Points for anyone that can get where this is. To help narrow it a little, it is in Scotland. Sorry, to comply with the rules, here is the name and GC code in true hardcore cacher ROT13 to avoid spoiling it. Gur Ovexf bs Noresryql TP27SSD
  12. as long as it works with the theme. For example, if the theme was "moving house" cardboard boxes would be ok, just as much as a picture of a house on the back of a truck on a motorway.
  13. I wa lucky enough to live a 20 min drive from last years mega and attended several associations, caching in the dark and so forth. I wouldnt say like an event but mega, more like sh!"£$loads of events happening in a short period with tonnes of other cachers (about the only time you are likely to spot a vehicle decal) and a decent expo weekend with lots on display. I had only just started caching at the time myself an a friend and I quickly realised something about most events: we preferred t hang back and trail the group by several caches, otherwise it was a horrible quagmire to sign logs, you saw others spot the caches etc. etc. and usually you groupe with another few stragglers giving yourself a group of maybe 4/6 adults and a few kids which was a perfect group size.
  14. oooh micro gps. Imagine placing yourself as a "singles" cache and ther units could 'talk' to each other using localised signals..... jady1978: I love the idea of hunting for tupperware then eating from tupperware. Might join eerie indiana and sleep in tupperware, keep me fresher for longer lol. though the doh might have something to say about it...
  15. Thats how I turned a girl friend into a Girlfriend once, invited her camping for the weekend. A 2 person tent and 1 sleeping bag goes a long way....
  16. Can we not use one of my most favourite words and create the UK Mammoth Committee for exceedingly big non repeating events?
  17. I had a strange case on Sunday of clicking on cache links sent to me via email which were then taking me to different caches!
  18. ok, got some work on the motor vehicle done faster than thought, had a look through some of our photos and decided to post one for the caption competition of one of our favourite places to go visit. Usually with friends and their family a yearly visit is made to this attraction with my own family and a great time had. Anyway, the winner will receive a surprise prize (announced with the winner) for this competition or at their request, a donation made to the setting of this photo instead, Edinburgh Zoo.
  19. woo-hooo. first thing i've won since I was 8 years old and won a bottle of vodka in a raffle on a coach trip to france. And that prize sucked as my parents simply refused to allow me to drink it! I will get a photo up next week for the June comp as I have just discovered a hole in my car brake pipes and currently spending time ripping the old pipes out in preparation of the new ones arriving saturday
  20. We had rain during this wind as well and at one point we discovered it wasn't rain, it was just water. Rain insinuates water droplets, but there was nothing droplet sized with this. We were simply underwater for 5 minutes.
  21. Thought I'd just add this one in seeing as nobody has posted it so far and I think its funny and would like to share it: "What do you mean 'say cheese', can't you blooming well see I'm concentrating here!"
  22. Gonna sound strange buuuttttt: have you had chicken pox previously (and even so, not impossible to get it again)? Only ask as there appears to be a wave of it exploring the country...
  23. I would admit, urban runs a higher risk of a damaged/mia if getting spotted or caught. Recently I was finding one in bushes and know that people spotted me. A while later, saw them rummagin around in said bushes. They must have been really puzzled at what I was doing, as they never found it.
  24. A neighbour to my parents bought one about 20 years ago and had it installed in their garden, complete with working phone.
  25. Id place a bet it is being removed or altered. BT are making a fairly hefty loss on phone boxes these days, with several thousand bringing no money at all, but requiring repairs etc. and another 16,000 (iirc) that still operate at a loss. the red box however is much an icon and for roughly £300 per year people/communities can pay for the box to be there with phone. Alternatively, the phone service can be removed and the box itself adopted by the locals.
