  1. But, there is a cache. By placing one, you're saying that it can be accessed with a reasonable amount of effort. The issue is what is reasonable, but that's why you rate your caches by difficulty, too. I agree, this site has enough rules already. But that shouldn't excuse a poorely chosen cache site, either. Not that I'm complaining, though. Most sites are better than I could do.
  2. I think a better question is... Why not? Competition is a good thing. I buy T because they've got quality cars, not for any other reason. I'll consider F again the day they can compete with T on the things that matter to me. But I know that if F disappears completely, T won't need to try as hard to keep my business. I mean look at what happened when Linux finally got big enough to compete. We jumped the from the poorly written reused-code-from-window3.0 torture that is windows 98 to the rather pleasant windows 2000. So be grateful and secure in the knowledge that there's someone out there keeping geocaching.com on their toes. Because even with the best of intentions, a few years with no competition and this place would stagnate. And as long as this site continues to be good, they'll continue to be the biggest, most successful competitor.
  3. Churches are very often historically and spiritually and architecturally interesting, and are legitimate cache sites when permitted. Spirituality is human nature, I'm not ashamed of it. Let's celebrate what we are. A cache that has an openly religious theme should be fine. If you can get it past a reviewer, then by definition it is fine. And if I really don't like your religion, I won't visit it. I won't even be upset, I mean, why should I be? It's your cache. But if your cache says "teddy-bear themed," and I get there and it's full of tracts for your religion, and one teddy-bear who's been nailed to a wooden cross, I'll be upset. Even if you're the same religion as I am. Because you lied to me. For me, it's not about religion. It's about enjoying GeoCaching. I do, and I want others to do so too. I looked at one chick tract. That just doesn't interest or amuse me. I'll discuss why with you all you want, in a philosophy or religion forum, but not here. I like geocaching for the challenge, for the trinkets. It's fun.
  4. I used to tell my tech students not to unplug ps/2 mice while the computer was on, (since that can fry the mouse and/or mouse port) but that usb mice are hot-swappable. After about a week, they went from only usb to hot-swapping all. Now the rule is, "Computers must be off before moving any mice." With the hidden caviat, "those students who know what they are doing, will not get in trouble for hotswapping a usb mouse." So if I found an empty marked vintage lighter, it would be fine. A bic? No. Rules are made to be bent, by those who understand why we even have the rule.
  5. I've been caching for... almost a week now. I first heard about geocaching from a Jeep ad, years ago. Never occured to me to do it though, starving college students look for food, they don't buy a GPSr. My brother's a caver, has been for years. A friend of his is a caver, and a geocacher (if you find a cache 200' underground, you'll know who's to blame, I guess). He got into geocaching with his friend, and he got me pretty enthused when he was talking about it, so he sent me a GPS for my birthday. Since then, I've been out caching all over. My first day messing with the GPSr, I accidentally programmed in a point that was several numbers off from the one I was trying to enter. It was just an Arbitrary Point. This summer, I plan to get some serious caching done, maybe catch up with my brother, he's only 90 caches ahead of me now. Then again, he's only been caching a month longer than me, too. At this rate, he'll be 400 ahead of me by then. This post reads so well, I'm gonna make it my biography. Thanks for giving me something to put there.
