  1. Thanks for all the replys, I will check into all of the suggestions. BTW I am using Palm.
  2. I am currently using GPX Spinner and Plucker. Lately Plucker has been freezing up while spinning. I went to report the bug to Plucker and found that another cacher had already reported it so I added my comments to that bug report. Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a workaround? If you use GPX Spinner, what do you use to load the cache pages to your PDA. I tried Mobi Pocket a while back and did not care for it. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  3. I am currently using GPX Spinner and Plucker to load the Cache pages onto my PDA. I also use GPX Spinner to create a file that I import into Microsoft Streets and Trips. This works well if I have my laptop with me. However, MS Streets can not download onto Palm OS only Pocket PC. Does anyone use Spinner and to generate a file for other mapping software, preferably one that is compatible with Palm OS. Also, what do you like and dislike about the mapping software. Thanks
  4. Try www.jandr.com. They will match other dealer prices (not ebay, etc). very good to deal with.
  5. Try www.jandr.com, they will match prices. I have placed many phoe and online orders with them and have never had any problems receiving the merchandise, or with a return. If the item is on backorder, you will be told upfront. They also do not charge your card until the item ships.
  6. In Arizona the policy of the Tonto National Forest is very pro-geocaching. You do not need any permission to place a cache, as long as it is not at an archeological site ot wilderness area. Unfortunately not all the archeological sites are disclosed.
  7. I have two stories. The first one happened to a coworker, and was logged of our B.B. Cache GC62C2. October 13, 2002 by WhereRWee? (259 found) You can [delete] or [permanently encrypt] this log entry. We had a trip planned to Crown King this weekend with 4 other families. Decided to hit one or two caches on the way up and stopped off to do the B.B. cache. On the way back from a small easy hike from the cache site one of our group slipped on some pea gravel on a shallow 3 foot incline. She fell to the ground and dislocated her ankle and broke it in two places. The group we were with consisted of 1 certified EMT and one former EMT and two police officers. We were able provide the emergency services ourselves and get her to the hospital within an hour. Two hours of surgery and lots of bolts later the ankle was put back together. She is expected to be in the hospital for another day and off work for 4-6 weeks. I'm posting this as a friendly reminder to be careful when out doing the remote caches sites. Always let someone know where you are going, bring a cell phone, and BE PREPARED for the unexpected. This was not a difficult cache and was truly an accident. The remote location of this cache could have made it much worse if it was a solo cache hunter. Maybe the B.B. in this cache stands for broken bones. The other story happened to us at ROADRUNNERS #6 GCF936. This one took us two days to do. Last night we did our 6th cache for the day GCD604. Jane said This one is only 1.5 miles. So off we go. We find the road in? Nice dirt road. Road narrows, and at 450 feet away, we see the main dirt road. We pull onto it only to find out that it is a river bed, sand. Our Ford f150 got stuck. The four of us, (Jane, myself, our 8 year old and 6 year old) dug, pushed etc. for an hour and a half. No luck. And of course the high tension lines blocked out phone reception. Finally at 9:30 we took the 9 month old puppy, and we all hiked the half mile, in the sand to the road. Flagged down a motorist, and hitched a ride into Surprise. Then had a nephew bring us home. Today I went out with my neighbor and a tow rope, and we got the truck onto firm ground, then did the cache. Took a Panda77 domino 4-1. Left Magical Memories pencil. Thanks for the very Magical Memory. BEWARE OF THE SAND.

  9. Nearby easy finds are "Paseo" GC73AF, "Clamo's JR Little Spring" GCD987, "Marked Money Exchange" GCC7B7, "DLCache-2" and "DLCache-1" GCCA8C and GCCA8B for starters. Some more complex ones are "Just Around the Corner" GC7B97, "Park Hopping 101" GCB6EC, and "All American" GC42CE. This should give you a good start. For a more complete list you can enter your zip code on the Hide and Seek page at http://www.geocaching.com/hideseek/.
  10. I downloaded Garmin 3.10 onto my Etrex Legend. Ever since the upgrade, when in compass mode, the pointer seems to "bounce" around a lot more. Has any one else had this problem? Do I need to change a setting?
  11. Last spring we took our Cub Scout den there for a tour. The Park Ranger told the boys to "touch this rock all you want and get it out of your system". The rock apparently was placed where it is for people to touch, so they don't touch the protected ones behind the fence. Why should anyone who works there be offended by the picture in question?
  12. You can email me at mheitowit@usa.net with the details. I live in Peoria and am sure we can find a place to meet. Mark
  13. Oriental Trader catalog has some great cache items that are even cheaper than the $1 store. What not to place: food, liquids, fireworks.
