  1. I saw a car with a travelbug bumper sticker, but the number was blocked by the spoiler on the car. I know what town they were heading towards, and it's pretty much the only town that direction, but it's about a half hour further than my house. I'd recognize the car again if I find a picture. Is there any way to search for travelbugs by location, so that I can find that car and message the owner? I know it's a bit silly, but they're the only other car travelbug to come through my tiny town in the past 4 years...
  2. And that's why Mwenechanga closes the metal cache boxes _I_ don't want to get hurt
  3. Our local $1 sells the laser "kit"-- 7 different (mostly) shapes (hearts, bugs, etc) and the batteries ARE included. They also sell spare batteries for $1 a piece
  4. We will be traveling to the Bay area from the Central Coast (CA) and this is what I did-- 1.Got a premium membership 2. Used the "Map it" feature along our route to find all geocaches along the I-5 and I-280. VERY time-consuming and I am sure there are better, easier ways to do it, but that is the way I chose
  5. We used the GPSr as a digital camera recently. The cache was right out in the open and muggles were about, but there are always silly people taking pictures of themselves with the odd tree, sign, statue, etc. So, one of us "posed" while the other "took the picture." After we signed the log we really did take pictures as we put the log back!!
  6. Hey all! i just wanted to post to say how much fun this last event was!! I am looking forward to the next. I can help plan anything after June 1st through July .
  7. I, like Mortaine, drive a hybrid. At $3.00 a gallon, I will only be paying $30 to fill up for 300+ miles :0). I live in the middle of nowhere, so currently I am paying $2.30+ for gas which lasts maybe a week if I drive to town (1 1/2 hours away) only once or twice. Paying less for gas(because of my Prius)= extra $$ to go on a geocaching trip up north to see B-I-L .
  8. My 12 year-old brother frequently goes on cache hunts with my husband and me (he lives with us, we can't leave him home ). The only way we can get him out of the car on some trips is to give him the hint to decrypt. He LOVES it! This ALWAYS gets him out of the car and into the "caching mood." He may not always understand the clue, but I know it would irk him to figure out "no hint here" or "Too bad you spent all this time decrypting to find out there is NO CLUE!!" As for the adults decrypting these clues-- I used the decrypt tool for the first couple of caches we looked for. After that, I just printed out the hint for my brother. Sometimes, we just give him the clue to "keep him busy" while we search. We oftentimes have to resort to the clue he runs up and hands us!
  9. Will there be 100 ppl there??? The stingy side of me (mwenechanga) says that 20-30 ppl spot would be cheaper for everyone and prolly all we need (my 2 cents) Emily
  10. OK.. edited. I checked out Snopes, and am humbled. I was told by my teacher in Human Sexuality class. I will forward the article to her so she will not spread this misinformation to others.
  11. I agree!!! After a "marathon" (3 caches-- 1 1/2 hours and 50 miles) cache hunt we were STARVING and had "In and Out" burgers-- cheeseburger meal with grilled onions Best fast food EVER!!!
  12. We place seed packets (zipped in ziploc baggies) IN caches. That way, ppl can plant seeds in their own backyard, and not disturb any balance . -->I always get paranoid that my actions might make the universe explode or something...
  13. Mwenechanga and I live in New Cuyama; about an hour from Santa Maria. We are tentatively available for the date. Mwenechanga may have school, but we would love to meet others from our area! Keep us posted!
  14. I recently found a cache with tracts of a religion I do not agree with (also it had trash in it-- empty food wrappers, old gift cards), so I removed the tract (there was only one) and all of the "junk" and replaced it with nicer stuff I had brought with me. I believe that it was my right as a geocacher to "trade up" the items in the cache-- I replaced each item with an item of equal or greater value. I always remove "offensive" tracts when I see them (even for my own religion, if I see it as narrow-minded or prejudiced to/against a specific group). My opinion
  15. Cool! I can't make this one, or the Fresno one, this time. I have a bridal shower Mar. 19. Will try to make another one, though! Emily
  16. Hello all. I live in Cuyama, and was wondering what your definition of "Central Valley" was? When I lived in Bakersfield, I thought that was the Central Valley. I have been geocaching for under a month, and would love to get to know others who cache Thanks!
