  1. Hi Guys,

I was just wondering whether the net is still running even after all this time. I hope so because I'll try to check in but if not then it doesn't matter.

    Regards,

    James,

Me Too! It might be early in the ,morning when the net is on.But i'll give it a go if its still running!

I would like to sign on too. Where do you find the Geocaching freq? What call sign is it at. Jim KB7UTQ

  2. Has anyone ever setup a schedule for a geocaching rag chew on a lets say Saturday night? I play radio most nights on 80 meters. If anyone is interested in starting a group rag chew, post it here...

What about using Echo Link on 2 meters. That way everyone with a computer can get in. Just a thought. Jim, KB7UTQ

  3. I have a Magellan Explorist 400, with usb data cable and charger i would sell. 75.00 shipped, Unit is like new with new battery and 1 gig memory sd card in it. Paypal would be ok.

There are better units than the MagellanExplorist 400 check the reviews it has LCD problems Go to Garage sale and you will find a good unit for your budget

Thats the first time i heard they had LCD problems . I have a couple of them and all worked just fine for geocaching. I will agree ,there are better units, but just to start playing these are fine. Jim.

  4. I have a brand new Magellan eXplorist GC that I'd like to sell.Still new in package. I don't understand how to put picture on here. But you can google it ,it will be the same.

I would like $125 shipped USPS Priority Mail anywhere in the US. Paypal only.

I give you $120 shipped to the UK? what do you think

It cost more to ship to Uk. 125.00 I will ship it there.

    $110.00 Free shipping in USA.

  5. Here's an idea which doesn't involve any other image hosting sites:

You own a couple of caches - Put a Note log onto one of them and then add your images to that log, in the usual manner. Then click the link under the log to view the image, and click on the image to "View original". That'll give you the image on its own with the URL from geocaching.com

Then you can create your post in the Garage Sale Forum, click the "mini tree" icon, paste in the URL into the box, click "Insert image".

    Done.

    MrsB :)

I tried what you said, but now i don't see the option to edit my ad posting? My wife says i don't have but a short time to do it.

  7. You don't upload it directly to the forums. You need to upload it to an image hosting site like Picasa or Image Shack. There you will get a link to the picture that you will copy and past into the post through the incert image hash tags. Just click on the little image icon in the top of the message field. Then copy the link there and your all set. Or you can type it all in using the [ and ] around img then the link and the [ and ] around /img.

I tried photobucket, Did the copy of the url posted it in, but all it shows is a bunch of letters and stuff,no picture?

You want the [Direct link] code from the Photobucket link options. Copy that, then select the Insert Image icon when you're creating a forum message, paste the code into "Insert URL," and you're good.

If you just paste the code (even the code) directly into the forum message, it doesn't work for some reason (I've tried it).

When i do it that way,i get this>>You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board

You're clicking the Image icon and not the Link icon to insert the image here, correct?

If so, what kind of file format is the uploaded image? Should be JPG or GIF or PNG, I think. Or maybe that error's referring to something else, I dunno - never had a problem.

I dunno either, I give up for the night, i'll give it try tomorrow, Thanks.

  11. Hi, I'm looking for a gps that will work with the paperless geocaching. I'm leaning towards a DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 but am still open to other options. My budget is under $150. Thanks

Wow I am surprised that everyone is missing a REALLY good geocahcing device. I purchased a Virgin Mobile Optimus V for my daughter a few weeks ago for 130 bucks at best buy. It is a fully functional Android phone. It can be setup without purchasing a Virgin mobile account and can install apps from the android market like Geobeagle and Geohunter, all VIA WIFI. It also has a pretty decent GPS setup in it and put me, in heavy coverage, within 20 feet of the cache. For 150 buck as a normal price and the fact that it is more then just a GPS device you cannot loose. I would like to note that running with the GPS on got me about 5 hours of battery and that seems to be the only real downfall of the device, but a 25 dollar Energizer charger will extend it another 4-5 hours. More then enough to get through a full day.

I am just adding to the ideas of what is out there in terms of GPS device options.

  12. I am a complete newbie to geocaching, and I am also on a budget as far as cell phones are concerned. I have decided to give Virgin Mobile a try, as $25 for unlimited text, email, data, & web is very attractive. Their selection of phones is pretty mediocre, though, and I am trying to decide between the Samsung Intercept and the LG Optimus V. After doing some digging, I have been able to ascertain that both of these have a compass and an accelerometer. (The former being obviously more important for geocaching). The Samsung is a bit faster, but the LG has a better display.

If anyone has any actual experience with either of these phones, I'd really appreciate the input.

Hi i have been using the LG Optimus V for a month now. I love it 25.00 a month for unlimted data. I use c:geo and the app from geocaching.com. both work well. Gps is great. Good maps, talks you right to GZ. With turn by turn. i also use a garmin gpsmap62st. But with the phone you can log from the field, Jim.
