  1. I'm another guilty one - we knew we were going to Arizona for a 12 day road trip and picked up 3 TBs in Canada to bring with us. Some of them sat with us for almost a month (with the owner's permission) prior to the trip. The TBs came with us for most of the trip and we certainly dipped them for most of the road trip. But we did take lots of photos and had a bit of a story for many of the logs. We figured since we were seeing out of the way places (how many TBs get to sleep where Howard Hughes slept?) that it was OK.

I had also contacted the owners prior to doing so and they had e-mailed that it was OK but I believe the only question we asked was whether it was OK to take them to AZ and not whether to take them on an extended trip in AZ.

I will sometimes hold onto a TB for more than a few weeks if the weather or my schedule is not cooperating. But I'll also send an e-mail to the owner. I'm fussy on where I drop the bugs. I like to leave them in a cache of good repute for TBs and sometimes that takes a bit longer to find. I will dip the bugs until they've found a good home.

I like to treat travel bugs well and try to take photos where possible. But as others have said, I would never knowingly violate an owner's wishes. I hope your tb is simply on a journey and is having a blast with many photos.

  3. Hi everyone,

Just letting you know of a bizarre success story. Maple Bear was one of my most promising travel bugs and was doing really well, so much so that I kept setting different missions for him. Unfortunately he disappeared in May 2004 in England somewhere.

But, I received an e-mail last night from a cacher wondering how she should log him since she's found him and wants to release him.

    Amazing!

I'd love to know where he's been and why he's been released again, but some things are meant to be mysteries, I guess.

For those that are curious, here's his website:

    Just wanted to share.

  4. Hi,

This is definitely the cache that was found. Wasn't expecting a reply so quickly and thanks for the answers.

It turns out it was my brother-in-law's friend who found it and only because he was chasing a lobster. It was almost completely encrusted with barnacles and he had to scrape off debris to read the label. He didn't know that geocaches were meant to stay in place so he took it with him and happened to try to look for it on the site.

It's in my brother-in-law's house at the moment so it's safe to say that it's definitely gone now.

Glad to hear that it wasn't an active cache, it would be tough to place it again in the same spot. The cache was in poor shape, took a pair of vice grips to open it.

We actually looked for Kevin and Susan on the web and couldn't find you as users, but must not have been typing in the key words right for the user names.

Thanks for letting us know. If anyone wants the cache they're welcome to it.

  5. Hi Geo Shark,

My travel bug "To Dad with Love" successfully made it from Toronto to Ventura California. Took a little doing with a few missteps along the way, but that's part of the adventure.

In the original statement I asked that people notify me when he got closer to his goal and one geocacher actually took the time to meet with my father over lunch and gave him the TB. Dad was thrilled and so was I. We actually just re-released the TB this weekend when we were down visiting Dad.

    Go for it!

  6. Hi All,

My brother-in-law was diving in San Diego and found a geocache underwater at Boomer's Beach. Since we're geocachers he knew what it was and wanted to know more. Geocache was black PVC piping and had a green (I think) engraved tag on one end that said "Boomer's Beach, www.geocaching.com"

We looked for the cache on the web and couldn't find anything. Is there any history here?

    Just curious,

    Thanks,

  7. Hi,

I will be in Arlington for a couple of days starting Friday this week. I have Algonquin Tom, a travel bug I picked up in Canada that I'd like to drop off. But, he's on the large size, he definitely fits a sandwich bag, but barely.

Most of the geocaches that I've looked at seem to be small.

Since I'm only here for a couple of days, please suggest easy caches, away from poison ivy. We'll be travelling to some falls in Oklahoma (forget what they're called, but they're famous) so something along the way to there would be fine too.

    Thanks for the help,
