  1. And then the series gets archived... Now that IS annoying! Not very. There's plenty more fish in the sea. But. I solve puzzles, note the final location, and aim to collect it when I'm in the area. Don't I just hate it when, before I get to collect, the cache is archived. Especially annoying when the cache owners reasoning is merely that they see few visits and all the locals seem to have found it. I greatly enjoy the logs on my seldom found caches somehow it is just better received than the logs on oft found caches. All my distant caching forays are based around collecting a solve puzzle or where I think there will be a good caching experience. Takes a while to get to them though so it is annoying when they are archived.
  2. My day off has just changed from Monday to Wednesday so watching this banter and the weather with interest.
  3. I'd never seen a gate atop a stile until I set; [Traditional Cache] PC-005 Goat Pasture http://coord.info/GC1KXWR The title of the cache gives you the reason why.
  4. You may be able to do it through Touratech QV5, you can get it on 25 day trial.
  5. I think you better start writing your autobiography now Alan. It would sure be a best seller. Glad it was a sweet natured horse that you encountered, whilst most are good natured as with dogs sometimes even known ones act unpredictably. Once had one drag his heels down the side of my face, full weight then on my shoulders
  6. Took about 30 seconds to solve that one! Here's our contribution to blank-cache-page-puzzles ! Mark And as the last finder to log ! I can testify what an enjoyable experience it can be to investigate a blank page. Unsure why more folk don't seek puzzles including the more obscure ones.
  7. I received a survey a couple of weeks ago. The one I completed seemed real and gave opportunity to input your own thoughts. It seemed well designed and hopefully will improve our geocaching experience if they respond to the views obtained. I seemed real enough for me to not doubt its authenticity though of course it is prudent to do so with all mailings.
  8. The list in your posts could get quite or is that very long. Have you thought about placing a link to a google document (spreadsheet) or similar?
  9. My most travelled. Cachewalkers Superbike Challenge 2009 - Bike 4 (Malpas Wanderer) 08/Oct/2011 Malpas Wanderer Cumil :: M.. 27914 mi Not expecting it to be high up the ranks.
  10. If only I had brains I would be doing GC2HCAT right now. I could not solve the first puzzle in my head. May not be the best one to do alone either.
  11. I enjoyed Westcote Wander set by a youngish lad, a very enjoyable series.
  12. Still trying to figure out under which circumstances this might come in handy … It was merely a statement that the bluetooth in the pocket and the phone in the hand would be an ok arrangement. My Bluetooth use was for Road navigation mainly and on occasion of that separation the PPC was fixed in the car the bluetooth receiver in my pocket and I was finding a C&D with a GPSr. When using it for caching the bluetooth receiver on your person is the best option, no need to hold in the hand
  13. It should be fine in your pocket. A different bluetooth unit but when I used one with a PPC I could seperate them by 100ft or so without losing the fix.
  14. A lot of caches done in daylight are easier too with a good torch, especially those in ivy or dense conifer. Like the doc says a good LED is good, and the whiter the light the better. I'm Currently using a Nightsearcher Commander but its 750 lumens is sometimes too much. Head torch is a Princeton Apex Not sure your difficult nano's were prime choice for first adventures.
  15. Ram-Mountsare very good for mounting all sorts of devices. Expect to pay for the quality though.
  16. As above Aber Falls is quite nice Dragons Den nearby I enjoyed too and there might just still be a coin in there. I enjoyed The 3Ds, I'm sure there is a path there somewhere. Any caches by ZagCat will be a little different. Sorry the computer is so slow tonight can't look up the links.
  17. One still wonders what the OP is trying to achieve here, or his motivations and/or grievances. Please show me where any reference to placement rules feature on the Groundspeak sites, I think you will only find reference to guidelines. You will find that most of the guidelines (core) listed are those that need to be rigidly enforced. The Groundspeak sites are multinational and it would be foolhardy to impose guidelines which would make little sense other than in individual countries. The GAGB guidelines were written to give best fit for UK caching. What need is there for UK guidelines to be referenced on a multinational site? Our local reviewers are able to implement local guidelines where necessary. The onus is on submitters to consider the guidelines when creating a listing. Give yourself a test select 100 caches at random read the pages see how many you understand at first reading try to deduce if guidelines have been adhered to. Likewise the reviewers will only pick up or challenge guideline omissions that are clearly obvious from that written or necessary in that location. Do you really want a less flexible arrangement?
  18. They are merely guidelines. However some permissions have been sought from landowners where the full GAGB guidelines have been negotiated into those permissions granted. Meet all the GAGB guidelines that you can or all of them when necessary.
  19. I don't often do circuits but if you are in that area and have not done; Abberley Advent[ure] Then you must (check for other caches you will pass on the route). Allow a whole day to do this circuit. Hope you are not too close to the milestone as there are a few numbers to amass.
  20. Not too long for another one to appear. For GC33FYC: KZ's 200th celebration series no1 (Not Published) (Traditional Cache) Location: Yorkshire, United Kingdom 14.8mi NE (23.9km NE) dalesmanX retracted KZ's 200th celebration series no1 (Not Published) (Traditional Cache) at 9/11/2011 Log Date: 9/11/2011 Listing retracted. Email to Owner Still wondering why.
  21. You don't have to visit the cache. Its the nonsense you receive when you are watching trackables
  22. My comment was not meant to be critical of the reviewers and apologies if it seemed that way. Indeed I am greatly appreciative of the effort you put in for my/our benefit in enjoying the pastime. In agreement with the reviewers comments until recently retractions have seemed very occasional. Having notifications in force for a large part of the UK I have seen three or more retractions in the last two weeks, which is what prompted the question. Since the OP was asking is the growth in geocaching for the best or in other words are standards declining. In that respect my thoughts that prompted the comment was are submissions declining in such a manner that no trace of that submission can remain.
  23. Feed to extreme one end and you will get a lot of (censored) out the other. With almost 100k caches in the UK I can make suitable selection. It takes effort but enjoyable times via good caches are still to be had and the crass takes the pressure off those good caches. Just enjoyed 6 days away and not a duff cache amongst them. Its worrying to see a profusion of caches retracted before they are published though. What is that all about? I don't think we will ever see the quality in every cache we desire, so adapt, and accept.
