  1. I'd echo others comments but also add it's _your_ game, so say what you like. I have to say that as a CO I appreciate longer logs, also ones that give me a heads up on the condition of the cache, either blank or "TFTC" logs are a bit boring, but that's up to the finders at the end of the day - and some do log at gz on phones, so long logs are harder that way.... I do think that ripping on a cache is a bit much, even the really rubbish ones took a bit of time - diplomacy is a good route Oh, and for the record, I waffle all over my logs ;-)
  2. Better late than never this month....here's one; Taken near Joes Treasure
  3. I have seen a few sites that have been torn up, possibly not as badly as you mention - but when you get lots of different people visit the searching styles are bound to be different - as previously noted being a FTF on the line means there's a good chance that some will be more eager than usual....and then you have the interested muggles looking also. I usually tidy up after myself, but some sites are easy to spot due to disturbance. On the very rare occasion I think there's a chance of sustained damage it'd be an email to a CO (not had to do this yet) and let them decide, if it was one of my hides I'd give serious thought to moving it - but as searching styles differ so hiding styles (and picking a location) will too - unfortunately if you hide it there's a risk that heavy handed/footed visitors will come at some point.
  4. "No I do not want to be on bloody springwatch"
  5. I started with an iPhone, and have been made fun of since, but whatever gets you started right? In any case I had a 3GS model, found the battery life drained really quickly (I used Motion X GPS to begin with - happy times!) but found that if you double tap the home button it will bring up a list of the open apps, tap and and hold an icon, after a few seconds they'll start to wobble - simply tap each one (to fully close and save battery life!) you don't want. Apologies if this is old news, but it helped me! Good luck, happy caching and don't forget if you see someone out and about you think is also a cacher you can use the universal cachers greeting (UCG) of sticking your arm in the air, with phone/gpsr attached, wave it about and shout "Go on, show us your GPS" They all love it!(darfc)
  6. Second effort from me this month, taken (with Oregon 550t camera) last week whilst at the Chough-ing Good Weekend event, this was on the trail of the excellent series' set out for the event, Wreckers' Trail 03: Wheal Edward right on top of GZ
  7. Abandoned miners cottage near Wreckers' Trail 13: Wheal Drea (GC2TBZR)
  8. Thanks for the reply MB, I had planned to amend the listing to say that the container/camo had been upgraded, maybe even modify hints if required, am sort of attached to the hides even if they are simplistic, they're my first few hides made nearly a year ago, the newer ones have more cunning thought applied to them hence wanting to "upgrade" the first few...
  9. Hi Guys, Am after some opinions please? I've checked out the knowledge books and it states that minor listing changes can be made without the need for reviewers re-checking - but what I'd like to do is modify the container and perhaps hide a little better - in the cases I'm thinking of the caches will stay in their respective locations but just with better camo. By way of an example perhaps drilling out a log and inserting the container within. Does that go against the morals of caching or is that ok since those that have already found it still keep the point, and new finders will not know any difference really. If the consensus on the above is generally ok, what about raising the difficulty should the situation warrant? I'm not on a mission to make things harder, rather try to add a little more effort/quality in my hides/containers... Thanks in advance for the responses! cheers
  10. I think one of our absolute favourite things about caching is how we have found caches in places that (PC) we passed by, spent time in, in some cases sat/walked over/on/by - just the realisation that these containers have been there for years - awesome! Only been to the one event but have met other cachers in the process, introduced some, repulsed others, but definitely love meeting like-minded people - like we're hoping to do at upcoming events. Getting out to new (and old) places, we shouldn't need the excuse, but it's great to have one! Seeing all the cool hides/containers, even some of the not-so-cool ones Thinking up new containers and hides, testing the rest of you! Knowing secrets muggles don't! Oh, and boots ;-)
  11. Can't decide between; Does my bum look big in this? or NO! I am not smiling at you! But then I never was good at these things! A for effort?!
  12. Second effort this month, this is near Lidcutt Valley 2, Cardinham Woods, Cornwall
  13. After a successful trip last weekend to Dunsland we're heading back to the same area and are planning to have a go at the Holsworthy Woods series - and kids depending another series nearby - failing that a few loose ones on the way home. We will probably let the kids watch the highlights at some point tho
  14. Another entry for Two Bridges in Holsworthy - one of the two is in there somewhere... And an older pic, but it is Devils Bridge, Ceredigion, so it deserves an airing - taken as part of the as yet unlogged (for us) earthcache. (*ahem, it's actually on a memory card somewhere, I'll dig it out, who knows might even log the EC too!) Arrggh, going to have to log it to post the pic....now where are my notes??
  15. A shoe and boot fetish.. you know your problem - you're turning into a woman! I could make myself very unpopular with anything other than a carefully crafted response to that If the missus could work out how to use forums that is!
  16. Truro SD sold out of the £8 boots Going to hit Penzance tomorrow! Hang on, I already have a pair, am I getting a boot fetish??!
  17. Well, "did not find" seems to describe the situation for both "it was there" and "it was not there," so there is no need to change it. It would be a lot of work for everyone to try to find out if it was there, and go back to change their DNF logs, if we were expected to be doing that. I have to be brutally honest, I'm not really worried about DNFs anymore, at one time I used to be (from say find 1 to find 200 - we've just passed 300 now) as I sort of saw it as a bad thing, but I realise the significance of the log now. Know for a fact that other cachers have not found hides but not logged the fact either, kind of flies in the face of the spirit of the game really, so my DNF will stay as was, and we will get back there and find the cache (as it's now been replaced) this weekend. Happy Days!
  18. We went to find a cache a while back, the co-ords were duff - I found a mag nano that had a virgin log in it so I signed it (as did the team that was with us) but also searched nearby and found another, larger, cache that had the same name as the cache we'd come to find, so we signed that log too. Turns out the mag nano was the actual cache, but that other cachers had found it previously (but not signed log) - when the mess was eventually sorted out - the other cache was an archived one it seemed - the other cachers claimed the FTF. Now not being all that bothered about FTFs (I have a few on merit, so meh) but we did put ink on the log first! On a related note, if you post a DNF and it turns out to be missing/not there when you searched, do you bother changing your log type to note, or otherwise?
  19. St Awful, lol, our nearest large "town" and the sad thing is I passed there twice at the weekend - I have boots (that are ok) from some outdoors/mountain shop or other (in Penzance) but am always weary of the really cheap SW stuff, didn't think they fitted all that well... Maybe the secrets in the socks? Thanks for another excuse to visit TKM tho, and no doubt a few more quid on new clothes for the kids!
  20. Taken today (dodgy iphone camera) at Cape Cornwall
  21. Definitely still there as has now been found - I had to give a decent-sized hint to one of the hunters - to be fair they were close already though - don't want to become too unpopular so won't be placing many like this ;-)
  22. Thanks for the replies all - I originally wanted it to be a mystery cache but the reviewer said it should be a multi. After four logged DNFs (not FTFs sorry!) I have raised the difficulty to 3.
  23. Very useful site, as a garmin user that's going to help me too! Just in case the OP isn't aware I was finding the device was becoming increasingly more inaccurate - but didn't realise you should calibrate your compass each time you switch it on (the option is in setup menu, under heading) cheers!
  24. Hi All, Just a quick one - I hope. I have placed a new cache (multi) with a cryptic clue to gz so far the first three logs have been FTFs - I have it agt difficulty 2 - should I increase it - or leave it a while longer? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=8f5107bf-4aae-457b-8673-9b2ca7120fda
  25. Congratulations to everyone on here! And to us, our 240th find, and our first in a new country (unless you count Wales!) - Paris, on our honeymoon! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=fecafe39-f6af-4962-ac71-944f1f81c7cc
