  1. I believe WAAS was developed by the FFA so aircraft can zero in on airports more accurately...
  2. ok all...I know I'm a little late for this chat but I think I know why Thales has such poor responce time....Thales is owned by a French company and the French don't like to work more than 35 hours a week...maybe it's catching on here...I hope this is not the case since I own 1 Magellan and 1 Garmin...I'm keeping my fingers crossed
  3. p.s. I like the ideas the hermit crabs posted...they made sense to me
  4. I think this is a great idea...take a second and go to the geacaching.com sight and in the search for cache field enter zip code 54729...This will take to Chippewa Falls, Wi. On page 1 you'll see a series of caches placed by the Chippewa Falls Middle School...You might be able to get some ideas from them...good luck & happy hunting
  5. I have two units that I take with me all the time...my first unit was a Magellan 320 and the second was a Garmin fortrex...I found that both need a bit of time to figure out where they are at times...so what workes for me is to find a place where I've got a pretty good view of the sky and let the gps do it's thing (this usually takes a little longer with the Magellan due to age I think) this also allows me to look around and and zoom in on any clues posted by the hider...not to mention a short rest stop is a good thing...take some time and injoy the sport and the area your in..happy hunting
  6. I just purchased a Casio Pathfinder Triple Sensor compass watch and would like to know if anyone else out there has one and what they think of it...I'd like some imput on battery consumption, accuracy, and any thing else you feel is important...my first impression is that it's a cool gadget but I'll never be without my Silva Ranger...happy hunting
  7. I also take a canvas ground tarp(small 64x36) along to help keep the cache content dry..it can also be used as a tent in the rain
  8. I only log my caches to keep track for myself. So remember it's not the destination but the journey that makes life interesting...happy hunting
  9. Well, since bears and dogs don't really like each other that much, our house has one cat who goes by the name of Stimpy
  10. thanks all...I'll be ordering some asap...now maybe someone can help me out with the finer points of using a Casio pathfinder triple sensor compass watch. I just bought one and would like to hear about some of your experiences. It's my understanding they're not all that accurate...but still a great gadget...again, thanks for the map help
  11. I'd like to try hunting with the utm function of my gps but can't find a supplier of paper charts to start with...can anybody point me in the right direction
