  1. they sent a message stating that... "Hi,sorry, it was a big mistake withe our TB Logger Software, only with a few numbers in a little number range. But i have corrected the bug,so it will never happens" Means little to me but I'm not that fussed. :-)
  2. Just had all my TB's hit by an armchair logger called Bonnie+Clyde. One of them has been lost for years. They log it saying "Discovered it by chance due to code typing error. What is the correct thing to do? Are they gaining anything other than a fake status? Should I delete them or just leave it alone. It seems to me to dilute everyone else's achievements and pollute the system with fakery.
  3. I have somehow messed up my etrex legend C's settings and don't know how. I used to be able to input the Lat: 052:04:52N Lon: 003:09:06W directly into the gps off multimap but now all the settings show somthing i am not familiar with. I tried to have a flick around to no avail. I guess i could just set it to 'British Grid' and 'Ord Srvy GB'... Is that what everyone else does?
  4. Man, if this thread had been on the forum while i was considering whether or not to throw myself into the wonderful world of geocaching... I would not have bothered... The thought of enjoying the country side whilst out walking and getting to log (hopefully) interesting finds would not have sounded worth it if i had to dive into the nearest bush every-time I thought my path was going to cross with that of a paranoid cacher. As of yet i havent come across another geocacher and i am starting to think it best that way. Now i am picturing a ex-train spotter who has moved to the country as the anti pollution respirators and dayglo vests were attracting too much attention on the dangerously high platforms. They can now be seen taking massive diversions around cowpats in hip high fishermans wellies wearing latex gloves and a more comfortable cotton face mask. They spray every gate they come across with high strength disinfectant and if a cache isn't too dirty log it with Took nothing, Left nothing, Sterilised the cache. A first aid kit is a sensible addition to anyones caching kit especially when are venturing away from immediate civilisation. But as far as other precautions go, i think your best bet is to look left and right when crossing the road and leave it at that. Those edgy cachers that are still not convinced... start saving and CLICK HERE
  5. I am about to visit spain in a couple of days and wondered if anyone knew how to find the co-ords to Calle Las Rosas, Urbanizabiom Masia Pavia, Turis 46389, Valencia ? I would like to get as accurate as possible as i want to search for caches prior to leaving. Thankyou...
  6. I was loitering for sometime on a canal towpath while a family fed the ducks. The father approached me and asked if i was doing a survey with GPS. I said no and after about five mins he knew all the very little i know about geocaching. He uses GPS with his metal detector and thought this sounded much more like fun. A guaranteed find every time (almost). I still waited for him to go before i dove into the bushes. As a rule, if the muggles look like the outdoorsy shut the gate behind them type, i am very free with my reasons for hanging around the bushes and tell all.
  7. I have a Etrex legend C and am having a nightmare finding affordable UK software.. I think £150 for a cd or two is immoral... Does anyone know if it possibe to buy cheeper? Maybe a grey import etc.. I don't mind where i get it as long as i can use the gps in the car.. Cheers, 3rdeye
  8. Mission acomplished, Superb, thank you... Aren't forums great if you want to know stuff but are 6000 miles away! That's just about all the info i will ever need. I am getting married in Las Vegas in December and we plan to drive down and take a look at my land before finding somewhere to honeymoon. We may even Geocache into mexico Thanks again, that's great help, i owe you a beer. Kind Regards, 3rdeye
  9. On my Legend C i have an option in the setup to select NiMH or normal... Anyone know why this is? I imagine it is because NiMH's have less power than a normal battery but i have bought some NiMH's that are a meaty 2500mAh.. so what should i select?
  10. I'm spoilt in the transportation department... I nearly took the snowboard out today... I have an old Kwak and a mini cooper for the winter... a Vespa for the spring and a VW camper for the long expeditions come the summer... Am in the process of looking for a new house.. i could really do with a garage of sorts...
  11. Thanks, This is the rough area should anyone live nearby and want to hook up, show and swap UK TB's in the coming December 05 San Gorgonio Pass 6, Map 34 Book 45 Riverside County, California. 3rdeye
  12. I have some land in California i have never seen. I am interested on visiting the land at the end of the year but can't seem to got hold of any co-ords with the simple address i have. It's in the San Gorgonio Pass area. Can anyone help? Please PM me if you know the area and can get me the Lat-Long. Thankyou. 3rdeye
  13. I think if anyone is even a little bothered with the contents of any cache, they should take it all replacing everything they deem to be sub-standard with anything they believe to be better. If there was a cache out there big enough i would be putting my hardly used metal detector in it because as far as i am concerened i am yet to return home from anywhere feeling as rewarded as i have done after a day Geocaching. It's not just the possibility of an interesting artefact, it's the gift of adventure, of getting to see a place you may never have seen in your whole life. Of solving a puzzle and being part of a movement that those around you most of the time have no idea about. I am really new to this and so no doubt am still full of newbie-wonder. Maybe soon i will have a cache trashed or a TB stolen. Then maybe i shall become a little more cynical to the whole thing. In the meantime i am packing my first cache with things i would love to find. I am trading up and planning to attach to a travel bug a totally unique item... If it goes missing then so be it... At least it was there and momentarily lived outside of the draw it now sits in. They are just things... I dare people to start placing 'things' that are either unique or even valuble... Imagine the next person to look into that cache is you...
  14. I spotted a site the other day that gave you gps co-ords of where unprotected wifi spots were should you want to check your mail on the hop. I thought this was quite clever... (Especially as a wirless mac user.) I understand it is most likely against some law but loads of my mates leave their wlan unprotected saying it's just as neighbourly as giving someone a stamp to post a letter... 3rdeye
  15. I saw that... Laugh?... i nearly went into buisiness... 3rdeye
  16. I must say thankyou to whoever it was that put the CD of poetry in GCM18G for me to find. I just opened it to play and found it actually had the poets phone number in it on a post it... This is her I just phoned her up and told her i found one of her poetry CD's in a hedge and she was gob-smacked... We had a great chat and she is a wonderful person. She is sending me a signed copy of her latest book the sequel to 'The Phantom of the Opera'... Who knows, we may even see some new Geocaching poetry soon 3rdeye
  17. This Sport-Hobby-Pastime is truly massive.. I am glad i have discovered it now as i feel it's growth could well be limitless... I'd like to be here in 20 years time when the virtual's are holographic and lunch boxes have clocking devices I'll be saying "I remember when you had to drive cars yourself and people didn't hover." 3rdeye
  18. I thought that... I saw that some people have hundreds and hundreds of finds and don't seem to have been doing it that long. In this my first week i have really enjoyed reading the logs and enjoying the peace and quiet. In my job i rarely stop and it's great to take a bit of time to enjoy nature. Looking at some of these numbers i think people must have come to geocaching from orienteering... Where is the fun in tearing through the tranquil country side loging TNLN TNLN TNLN TNLN... What happens when you catch up and have done them all...? I have a feeling there will be a slight feeling of un-fulfilment as you hardly remember what you have done. I am going to start with an easy pace but who knows i may too get hooked on numbers
  19. That is just too weird... Could you have been watched...?
  20. hehe I could just see myself going into the local Police Station round here.. "errmm i left this lunch box in a hedge..." They are too busy dishing out asbo's Joking aside though.. Sorry to hear about the lost Cache's... I am very new to this and am in the process of putting together my first cache for hiding. Amongst the treasures i am planning to put in is a small beaded necklace once bought by John Lennon for Cynthia and passed from her to my other half... I would be gutted if it fell into the wrong hands. It would put me right off placing 'love' into a cache...)
  21. See this post had driven me mad!! drove me i think i meant to say Walk About Accurately Strimming
  22. hmmm, give them time... I wasn't going to bother with trips out at night but thinking about it, if it's going to rile the local cops and make them realise people are free to rummage in the bushes after dark, i think i shall be giving it a go. You never know night caching may spark a revival in sightings of 'Jack-o-lanterns'. Or as they are now more modernly called, 'Jack-o-maglights'.
  23. It has taken me hours to read all these posts and try to comprehend the do's and don'ts, truths and misgivings of WAAS. ...And still no one has the same WAAS system in place that i do... Should i know i am close to a cache and want to narrow down the possible minor errors and indescrepancies talked about here, WAAS always helps me... I Walk About Accurately Strimming Never fails 100% accurate (edited due to immense embarrassment and a head full of wine...)
  24. I was going to buy THESE And place them surepticiously on all future caches i may place. It would be good to make caches with the day and night in mind...
