I've been gentle so don't think I've wrecked anything unless you know different. Thought I knew where most of the trig points were around here, this tells me I don't I think it is definitely on the right track. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for your comments Nige. I think, and hope, quality is more important than quantity. It would be very easy to put a cache in any convenient hedgerow, but that isn't really the point. We have tried to put caches in what we believe are interesting places that others would enjoy. We have placed some caches in places that we haven't visited before e.g Fatlips Castle but have done a bit of research before we went and have therefore enjoyed new places as well. We have also been to places in the hope of placing a cache but when there decided it wasn't really appropriate for various reasons. We are very pleased to note that several places we had earmarked for caches others have beaten us to it so have enjoyed finding their caches. I hope this doesn't become a competition to place the most caches as this wouldn't be to everyones benefit if interest and quality were not considered. There are loads of places we have in mind and not all will involve a hefty walk . It is not a race we are here for the long term.

Congratulations to The Northumbrian on hitting his 200th cache. I was beginning to think he had retired but it looks as if he is good for a few more yet. Well done.

Many thanks for your words of congratulations. I suspect the next 100 will be a lot harder and involve a bit more travelling. Highlights have been many and varied, low points mainly involve getting out of bed early on a Saturday or Sunday or holly bushes. I'm sure this hobby will leave us scarred mentally and physically. Most enjoyed caches - Solway View for an unexpected viewpoint and Mabies Forest Trail for a great walk to a super little spot. Mind you the weather helped for both. Most frustrating - not finding the odd ones where other cachers found straight away. Must make sure Mrs Dan goes to these as she is a bit more controlled in these situations and generally finds them no bother. Furthest from home - caches in Kent and Sussex while down sarf for a wedding. In General have enjoyed getting out and about on days we wouldn't normally have bothered, plus its better than gardening!!!!! Have also enjoyed placing the odd or cache or two in places we hope folk will enjoy. Off now to plan the next 100, where shall we start - Edinburgh looks a good bet or the Yorkshire Dales or should we look a bit farther afield or ........

If anyone's interested an article appeared in the October issue of Country Walking magazine. Issues covered were the Weymerks on the Southern upland Way which have been covered in another thread plus a bit on Letterboxing and a page and a bit on geocaching. I reckon it will bring a few more into the fold.

Country Walking is one of three main UK walking magazines, the others being "Trail" and TGO (The Great Outdoors). TGO ran an article on geocaching last October which is where we picked up on it. I can confirm that the .com address is from country walking having just checked an issue in the pile of mags. in the living room. Magazine is available from all good shops!!!

Weel done that man!! Hope we can help you on your way to your second ton !!!

To my mind a clue is just that - a help to finding the cache where there may be some problem in finding it e.g. trees or cliffs giving a poor signal or an area where there are loads of hiding places. I would expect a clue where there may be some difficulty. If there are no problems, I wouldn't expect one. GPS's are not an exact science and will only take someone fairly near to a cache. If a cache is put in a tricky place and a clue is not given it is a waste of everybody's time as it is unlikely anyone would find it. A clue shouldn't say exactly where the cache is but give someone some help. I wouldn't be impressed after walking 5 miles or more and having driven lots of miles to arrive at a cache area where the cache could be anywhere. I reckon it's a matter of common sense basically.

As a fairly non technical person i.e. if it works, fine; if it's broken or doesn't work, don't ask me, all I can say, please keep things simple for everyone's sake. I'm not in this to learn more about computing, I'm in it to get out and about and see new places.
