  1. The problem with doing my own host is..... unless it's somehow on Geocaching.com, it wont work. And yes.... that one puzzle worked (https://coord.info/GC8H6Y5) but nothing else and nothing newer. I'm not sure why this is going BACKWARDS as far as what we're able to do. again, this is a bigger impact for puzzle-making versus anything else.
  2. So this is now a grave concern, as far as mainly doing Puzzles because Animations are one of the easiest things to create and put together. The old ones worked, and have been pulled-in to Geocaching, but some of the newer ones that i moved off PhotoBucket (puke) because of their cost-to-host, no longer work because of the "third party restrictions" that are now part of Groundspeak and the Geocaching Pages. Any suggestions on this one? Again some of my older stuff works but having to upload the images all to Geocaching is even more tedious AND the fact that the Animated GIF's no longer do their thing, is a bigger bug. Thanks -- RayQix - Metro Detroit/SE Michigan USA
  3. I may have found an answer to this in another Forum post but i'd like a more definitive answer, if possible: Thanks.
  4. Good morning. I have had some Animated GIF images in some puzzles of my own hides, some as recent as a year, and now those are either missing or do not work. They were hosted on OTHER sites, but even adding them to the Cache Page themselves, have done nothing and the Animations no longer work. This has now disabled the function of the puzzle(s) and i can LINK to another site, but not have the animations actually on the page(s) like they were. Any idea how to fix this or make it work? thanks - in advance. :) - RayQix - Metro Detroit MI, USA
  5. But, this begs the question: WHAT, can be done about this? Granted, these are "things left out in the public places" but these are people who are destroying the "things" that have been placed by SOMEONE, who agreed to keep-up on these "things". Technically, they aren't trash, they aren't abandoned, they are something that is part of a game. There is a LOT of "evidence"..... and maybe police or authorities attention WOULD feed-the-trolls, as it were. But, if the police did talk to them, ESPECIALLY since there is evidence of them destroying containers, and having their OWN FACES in the videos/pictures, there has to be something that can be done. I agree with the comment that someone should see if there could be fingerprints lifted from one of the cards, but the police would have to do it. Whether they would consider this a "high enough priority", is doubtful, but one never knows. Granted, it's a game. Granted, it's just "tupperware" or whatever you used. Point being, they are being destructive individuals.... and there should be something that can be done about it.
  6. 5+ years..... almost 6 years....since i first downloaded the app and things worked. I've had a couple times where this didn't work (coord.info/GC#### link to open the app) and it worked YESTERDAY until i updated the app. I even tried backing-out to the previous version.....NOPE. Why, pray-tell, is this "classic app" being phased out...instead of INTEGRATING everything into ONE app and letting it fly? We want the ability to import GPX files into the app, which CAN be done on Android, but not iOS. Test Test Test.... PLEASE.....before you send it out for update. This is beyond frustrating..... and it does not make folks happy. "Spinning in Circles in SoHo".....aka Warren, MI and Redford, MI. thanks. PS: this is issues with the "CLASSIC app", not the "Geocaching BASIC" or whatever you want to call it.
  7. I agree, HTML is a nice thing, BUT GIVE US AN OPTION, not what "Groundspeak lackeys think" because amazingly enough, some of the LACKEYS think that it's okay. I spoke to one of them at Midwest Geobash and was told that "it was tested on several devices and that it worked". Well, guess what, it doesn't. apparently i'm not the only one that it doesn't work....with. Anyone gotten some DECENT feedback from Groundspeak on this?
  8. In looking at things.... the Lab Cache issue didn't seem to bother me too much. what DOES bother me is that i logged a cache on 6/2/14, saved it for later, and sent it on 6/3/14 via the official iPhone App. It had messed-up my stats..... and showed i missed 6/2.... but now it's right. Here's what i have as of today: 1183 consecutive days with finds from 03/10/2011 to 06/04/2014 So i guess it's fixed.
  9. It's not just you.... and many of us are seeing DUPLICATE logs from the iPhone app. It sucks....but we can get through it

  11. Okay - one thing i've noticed with the new version/release is that my pocket-queries don't load EVERYTHING as they used to. I have one PQ that loads literally HUNDREDS based on the fact that it's CANADA and I don't have DATA service there. So I rely on the PQ to grab everything (found or not, my-hides or not) and that way all i have to do is download the PQ to the app. It's now only grabbing 30 of those from the start-point of my PQ. Nice that the "bouncing map" was fixed.... but i dealt with it. The PQ issue is a little bigger to me. ___________________________________________ After writing the above, i think this actually may be by-design...but i'm not sure. I have a "SQ" list (Cemeteries - Spirit Quest) and it's only loading the ones listed in the PQ by thirty at a time. If this is by design, i guess i'll learn to work it that way. If not, it's a bug. Thanks...and happy caching! - RayQix - Detroit, MI -
  12. I wouldn't threaten anyone about a cache container.... I would say that some people take this a little more seriously than others. A: it's a game. B: it was created by people...for people... to... C: HAVE FUN. Some folks take this wayyyy to serious. It's a piece of Tupperware....or pill bottle... or whatever. There was life before I geocached... now my time is taken-up with it more though. If the CO isn't taking care of it, then it's up to Groundspeak or a Reviewer to disable or whatever. But again... do we know if the person that replaced the container at Mingo was asked to or not? I only know about Mingo because I researched the "oldest one" and found it...then its on my watchlist. If I find it...great. If not, I dont. I've been to HQ and i've been to original GZ.... I'd like to find Mingo... but if not, i'm not gonna lose sleep over it. GCD would be a bigger loss...in my opinion.... but thats only because there's a "By the Numbers" (http://coord.info/GC33QEQ) Challenge near me. Aside from that.... i'm still gonna go on and hunt at least one-a-day.... and place more out there for others to find. When it's not fun anymore.... i'll stop.
  13. I'm gonna throw my two-cents worth into this....as i've had Mingo on my Watchlist ever since I found out about it. I dont care WHO you are, or how far back in Geocaching you go. According to how this is played, it's the Cache Owners responsibility to make sure their caches, no matter how old, are taken care of. If you no-longer want to maintain your cache, either adopt it out, find someone that will, archive the listing, or ask that someone else will. In this case, i consider this a "Legendary" cache, that should be maintained, because of the Age of the listing. Should it be disabled until the Construction is over? Yes. At the minimum, maybe MOVE it from it's spot to a Temporary Home somewhere nearby, so those folks that have been planning long trips to include this cache can get it. Should it be the "same thing as what was originally placed"? Maybe. This discussion was brought-up during the APE Cache deboccle and the ruling was made to archive the original listing because the original container was damaged and then stolen/taken. I do not agree with the Archiving ruling on that, but this isn't about the APE, now is it, it's about Mingo. As far as Team 360's commentary, which I saw both of the notes since, again Mingo is on my watchlist, even though they're deleted/removed.... Unless Team 360 (or any OTHER cacher) has actually BEEN to GZ to see it, how do they know it needs maintainence? They dont. T360's log of "how sad" etc is utter nonsense. I have over 100 hides myself and the containers that i've used have had to be modified at times from their originals, when needed, or even the caches moved because of either requests or "things happen" (new construction completely took-out a lamppost and i had to move one because obviously the lamppost isn't there anymore). So.... who's responsibility is it to take care of Mingo? The Cache Owner. If the CO says to a cacher that is willing to place a replacement container, "Go Ahead", then what's the problem? you're not there for the container, or the contents, you're there for the site itself, usually. Anyone that has NOT been there...sorry to say, has no claim to say anything about it, what so ever. Except maybe the volunteer reviewer, and thats not my call. It is, however, my two...or five-cents worth. Thank you. - RayQix - N42 26.925 W083 00.000 - Yes, that is 8 mile road, why do you ask?
  14. And my two Commentary (Note) logs to the APE Cache.... ----------------------- and.... " Hmmm...
  15. Wow. So all the APE caches are gone for good... except for Brazil. This game... this silly, addictive game... taking a strange twist indeed. Anyone want to do a series dedicated to the demise of the APE caches? Are there any out there now? What happens when any -other- cache gets damaged.... we usually repair it. But those aren't the APE caches... are they?
  16. Yeah, i saw that someone grabbed Mingo... and someone else fixed that. That.... is the way it should be. We all love this game...and we all dont want to see things like this go by the wayside. Hopfeully this will get figured out soon.
  17. Well.... since now there is talk of something new for APE..... maybe the NEW will qualify for the Triad. Either that... or we make our own? Wow, what a concept!
  18. Another two-cents from the mind of RayQix.... Being myself and two-others had attempted this... and we didn't even realize that it was there until we'd already been in the area to visit The Original Plaque and GS HQ, we decided that we'd try to make the attempt at a later date. Now, some almost 9 months later, it's Archived. Again, it's not about the final Destination, but the Journey of the hunt. IF... the "rumor" is true that they are "doing something special"... maybe that's part of it. Maybe there will be a new series of "APE Caches" around the world...Again. Maybe this was the opportunity to bring the APE caches to the forefront of many cachers mindsets.... to see how much interest there would be in one...or more. I dont know. What other movie tie-in has had THIS kind of impact, or response from anyone, especially in Geocaching? I dont think many... if any. I'd like to see Webcam Caches return...as well as Virtuals (Sorry, it's not the same for them to be Waymarking items. It's not as fun and there's not an icon). Many places and things could be good for both of those...and they're getting rare by the day too. It's unfortunately up to a few folks that have the control... on whether this thing gets returned, replaced, or at the worst, NOTHING happens to it. I don't like it.... but if I want to play the game of Geocaching, it's what i will live with. Thank you for reading two-and-a-half out of three of my cents. RayQix, Metro Detroit, Michigan. -- peace out--
  19. I'd say this has brought-up enough emotions that GS should do -something-. What that something is, i'm not sure. But UNarchiving it would be a start.
  20. PLEASE....PLEASE give us back the FUNCTIONALITY of the App. EVEN if you have a "switch" to change from "Hi-Res" (i.e. Retina Display) to "Lo-Res" graphics. Having the app WORK is MUCH MUCH MUCH more important to me (and i'm sure others) than having the thing NOT work properly, or at all (in some cases). I don't have any other way to Geocache. I ONLY have the iPhone and iPhone app. I enjoy the heck out of GC'ing...but this is making it very difficult and disheartening to try to get some good Caching in when the App is chugging-along and not working right. It's slow, it's not working right, and having the thing "look pretty" for the iPhone 4's Retina Display while taking-away the functionality of the thing just is wrong. PLEASE FIX THIS SOON....NOW! -- RayQix -- Metro Detroit Michigan --
  21. Since i didn't realize how much problems i'd have with the 4.2.x app.... and i emptied my Recycle Bin.... Can I PLEASE HAVE THE 4.1.3 APP BACK??? I'm stuck suffering through iTunes and it wont allow me to use someone else's "ipa" file (the filetype that iTunes/iPhone uses) since i didn't technically purchase "their" app. SPEED and FUNCTIONALITY ARE MORE PREFERRED OVER HOW THE DOGGONE THING LOOKS. That issue is apparently being OVERLOOKED.... No, I dont have another device to use for Geocaching.... because i have my iPhone and it worked AT ONE TIME. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give us the functionality back.... DONT "upgrade" the Graphics to "look better" on the Retina Display (iPhone 4). If it DOESNT FUNCTION, It's USELESS.
  22. YAY... not 6000+ miles from a Cache. BOO.... GC 4.2.1 update is now HANGING my iphone and LOCATION SERVICES is staying on.... thereby causing a REBOOT even when i task-manager (the iPhone version) out the GC App. This.... is better.... but still no-go if it causes my phone to reboot.
  23. Typing..... searching..... logging..... Yeah, it's all slow.
  24. The only way that i found to DOWNGRADE the app was do still have the 4.1.3 in your iTunes App folder (or your Recycle Bin (Windows)). SINCE i didn't, it was gone and i can't get it back. BELIEVE ME I'D LOVE TO HAVE THAT BACK BECAUSE IT WORKED. AGAIN, having the "Retina" graphics is nice, BUT NOT IF THE THING DOESNT WORK RIGHT.
  25. This is another of the annoyances with this Updated Version.... my "Destination" according to the Map Distance (Search-->Map and/or Compass) show 5,000+ miles. The Destination Coordinates are ALL ZEROS (Atlantic Ocean, SW of Africa). Here's a ScreenShot: It's still slow, it's still buggy... and no, i dont have an iPhone 4. It was working fine before i did the 4.2 App Upgrade. And i -DID- completely UNINSTALL the App from my phone, and re-download the app again, and re-install it. I'm stymied.... and my 4.1.3 version is long gone.... thanks.
