  1. I will happily take the scratched reading glasses, which were clearly left there to help people read the teeny tiny micro log. Perhaps they will still be servicable, since I can only see distance with my sunglasses (and I always leave the regulars in the car!). In exchange, I will leave the lovely plastic "feather" duster, with tags and plastic overlay still attached (I'm still trying to figure this one out, but it was in one of the caches we found today!)
  2. Congratulations. I'm still basking in the after-glow of our first find last week, and the two we found on my commute home yesterday. It is truly amazing to realize how right under our nose some of these are! There is a cache 1/2 way across the street from the front door of my office . . . unfortunately it's one that I haven't yet found in my two attempts to spot it yesterday. I will be doing the happy dance for sure once I find the darn thing! Enjoy the joy! I have a feeling it never truly goes away.
  3. Foreign coins - does the denomination matter to people? I have a bunch of Euro change that I thought would be fun to leave/trade, but wasn't sure if someone would be offended because I left a euro nickel. OK, I'm sure somebody will be offended no matter what is left, but I'd like a general guideline from those more experienced than I. Thanks!
  4. OK, I'll bite . . . what is up with all the "Ni!" responses today? And I'm not worried if I get flamed for asking . . . "it's just a flesh wound!"
  5. Hybrid here . . . will likely become somewhat competitive once I have more finds under my belt. I would add "family cacher" since it's something I do with my daughter.
  6. Thank you so much for asking this question!! I was going to ask it myself, but you laid it out way better than I would have. I spent last night looking at a thread (spanning several years) of different SIG items that people have. I'm so inspired - can't wait to create our own. I'm can't wait to find my first SIG item! I will be glad to know the proper etiquette when I do.
  7. I know I'm invisible when I'm driving to and from work, but when I'm out geocaching too?? C'mon now! The funny thing is, this probably explains half the people I've watched, wondering if they were up to no good, because why would they be around that tree, light pole, sign, etc!
  8. yeah i agree this is a great idea, see? thats the beauty of the forums, some people need to rant about things that bother them, and some people post honest solutions about how to fix those things some of us have to rant about, and you can either keep ranting, or take the advice, and it really doesnt matter, its about community, its a hobby / sport / job we all liek and there fore want to exchange stories, rants, raves, and reviews about, I don't mind the rants (too much) - it gives me something to read over lunch! My biggest concern was that when I dropped my little ace at grandma's, I told her that there was a cache at the park she goes to all the time there. I read her the description and the clue (since the gps is my phone). What I didn't tell her was to be stealthy. But a kid poking around the edges of the park is exactly what a kid should be doing! I can't wait to find out if she found it on her own, or if we get to do this one together.
  9. Hi everyone, I'm ACE (a play on my daughter’s and my initials) and I'm a lurker . . . (crowd says "Hi Ace") . . . I am brand new to the sport, and am addicted already. Seriously, I bust out the iPhone everywhere to see if there's a cache nearby! Lurking mostly because I'm new, and trying to find answers to my questions before posting (nothing like getting flamed with "hey (insert derogatory name here), this was answered (insert ridiculously large number here) times before!" Hoping to learn a lot, find a lot, and maybe find some new friends along the way.
  10. Thanks everyone - I appreciate the good advice! I love the quote you have from StarBrand, BCP, and in fact that helped to raise my question. And to Woody, you are spot on . . . a child's curiosity is the best! I can't wait to get out to find more caches (but my cover, I mean my child, is at Grandma's house so I have to wait!
  11. Hi everyone! My daughter and I have just started geocaching and boy are we hooked! We had a blast finding our first cache, and are looking forward to many, many more. I have a question for those more experienced . . . how stealthy should we be in looking for caches? I have read through the forums and have seen lots of comments regarding "muggles" and to be careful to not be so obvious, but I've also seen comments suggesting to be confident and act like we're supposed to be there. Right now, we're doing mostly suburban caches (simply because that's where we are!). So, please, wise ones, advise us on the proper search etiquette. Thanks mucho!!
