J&J, if the coin you're referring to is the Oklahoma/Tulsa Area Geocachers coin (shown as recently activated on your profile), it is icon #172 (every geocoin has an icon, and all geocoins with that icon have the same icon number). It is from February 2006, minted in antique silver, with 1,000 different tracking codes allocated to that coin issue. The front states "Geocaching in the Sooner State." The back is modeled after the seal of Oklahoma, which consists of a five-pointed star within a circle of 45 stars on a blue background. Surrounding this central representation are the sigils of the Five Civilized Nations (counterclockwise) in the five points of the central star: Chickasaw symbol: armed warrior Cherokee symbol: seven-pointed star in a wreath of oak leaves Symbol of the creek: wheat and plow Seminole symbol: Indians in a canoe Symbol of the Choctaw: bow and arrow Size: 40.2 mm / thickness: 4.3 mm / weight: 35.5 g

Pathtags are personal signature items, and when you find one you get to keep it. In fact on the back of some pathtags it even states "Yours to keep." As mentioned previously, they are not geocoins and cannot be tracked on geocaching.com.

Great story! -
In our little patch of paradise in Wisconsin I hear SEE-TOW about 60 percent of the time and SIGH-TOW 40 percent of the time.

How do I view the DNF count of other cachers? Is there a way to do that? I've played around with project-gc but didn't see an option there.

2-1/2 year update: Apparently adding the geocoin buddy tags made little or no difference. The first group of 9 geocoins released 2/2011 without geocoin buddy tags resulted in 4 of 9 surviving after 2-1/2 years. None of them are active anymore as it's now been a little over 5 years. Of the second batch of 9 released 8/2013 WITH geocoin buddy tags, only 1 of 9 lasted 2-1/2 years. So much for my assumptions that the tags added to the coins would increase their longevity out in the wild. I'll still continue to place trackables out there from time to time - I just don't have expectations that they'll last forever, and that's OK.

Thanks, that's a start. Not quite what I'm hoping for. I better be more specific. I hope to give a talk on GSAK alternative software for newbies(I prefer GSAK myself). As far as I can tell, trying Google Earth shows the GC numbers, but not the cache name, when trying to print. The intent is to print not a satellite view, but a map view, with the names of the caches (not the GC numbers). In that way a small group of cachers could look at the map to plan their day and change course throughout the day if desired. I've lined up a number of alternative potential programs to discuss for various functions that can all be easily done with GSAK, but I don't know of a program other than GSAK that will print up a handy map of the caches with the names of the caches. For that I had two programs, GSAK and My Geocaching Profile, but evidently the latter is no longer offering that feature.

Lately when planning a full day of caching with others I will print a Google map via GSAK showing all of the caches in my Pocket Query, showing the respective cache names. Numerous geocachers I know find GSAK difficult to comprehend. What other programs are available, if any, that will show all the caches on a single Google map with the cache names showing? My Geocaching Manager used to do it, but the command to do so evidently must have been omitted at some point with a newer release. I'm unaware of any other program that does so.

I LOVE the Lord of the Rings, having read the book 4-1/2 times. I have the information from the Shire in Wisconsin (that's a little more than an hour north of Chicago for those of you who haven't ever left middle earth) and need a partner in NZ. I don't know what the terrain will be like for you in NZ, but over here we apparently have to walk through a swamp of some type to get to the final once we have the complete coordinates. Sounds great!! I'll know more when I have the coordinates from NZ. If you'd like I can send you pictures of our adventure once it's completed. John & Kim

It seems silly to me to have 31 separate souvenirs for August. Why not then make 365 souvenirs, one for each day of the year? Now one single souvenir for all 31 days of August 2013, that would be cool. I'll probably do the 31 days in a row thing, hoping that TPTB reconsider and offer ONE souvenir for those that earn it. If I do get 31 souvenirs, as expected, the whole souvenir concept will become more irrelevant to me.

I've been lurking about at the forums for over three years but normally don't post anything at this forum. I'm much more active at the forums at the Wisconsin Geocaching Association's website. My wife and I have thousands of finds, love challenge caches, puzzle caches, ammo boxes in the woods, TB's & geocoins, and nice hikes to find caches. Not too nuts about caches in guardrails or lampskirts but we find them too. For us geocaching is about the adventure and not as much about the numbers, but we are motivated by a well put together challenge. Have found caches in maybe about 15 states and are close to completing our first Jasmer challenge. We have met many great people over the years via geocaching and are glad to call many of them good friends. Not sure if I'll take the next step and become active in the Groundspeak forums but it is alluring. Greetings from Wisconsin and maybe we'll see you on the trails! -
I agree with Roman!! If the TB's we place continue on for a long time, we're thrilled. But if they meet an early demise, that's part of the game. Of the 39 trackables we have sent out in the wild over the last several years, only 6 have been logged this summer. We're releasing another 2 TB's probably this week, and 9 new geocoins when we take a multi-state trip this August. There are things you can do to help with their longevity (which have been covered numerous times in the past) that I won't address here.

2-1/2 years ago we released nine little geocacher guy geocoins, four are still active. This August we are sending out nine more, identical to the original nine, but this time with the "Don't keep me" Geocoin Buddy tags on them (pictured below). It will be interesting to see a comparison of how long they last. The geocoins are 1" diameter round, 2 MM thick, and have the abbreviations FTF, CITO, DNF, & TFTC. If they last a long time, we will be thrilled; if they disappear relatively quickly, well that's part of the game!

I'm going to be presenting a geocaching "continuing education" seminar later this month on games that can be played related to geocaching. Any suggestions or comments from you folks would be great! Part of my goal is to communicate to people that there's more to caching than just finding a cache - you can spice it up a bit with additional goals (such as a challenge cache) or enhancements (such as chirp caches). Here's a list of ideas so far: 1. Challenge caches 2. "Challenges" 3. Whereigos 4. FTF's 5. Geocaching series or themes 6. Lonely cache game 7. Geocaching Road Rally in teams 8. Geocaching reality show games: Amazing Race, Survivor 9. Photo caches 10. Cache rescue games 11. Benchmarks 12. Waymarks 13. Chirp caches 14. Capture the flag traveling TB game And a general talk on goals and statistics. Anyway, if you have any other topic suggestions or would care to comment on any of the above let me know (no complaining about challenges lol) Thanks! Hack1of2
