  1. Yikes, enlighten me, why isn't a nano cache a 'real' cache?
  2. I acquired a free non-magnetic nano cache (I've lost it a few times in my room and pack just because it's so tiny!) a few months ago, and think it's about time I released it into the geocaching world. Do you have any tips on where I should hide it? What made your last nano cache hunt exciting?
  3. I don't think I'll be using the barometer, but does the compass give you more precision (in terms of direction) when finding caches?
  4. Yay! Is it out yet? Haven't been able to see it online yet, but I may be looking at the wrong websites. Also, is getting the eTrex 30 worth it over the eTrex 20?
  5. Ahhh but what if you're not going in the bush?
  6. To me, it sounds like people only prefer to use their car GPS devices to get where they have to park (understandably, because it's primary use is road network navigation). But is there anything wrong with using a car GPS on your first few urban hunts, especially if you're a geocaching n00b? I can understand ditching it in favour of a hand-held device when you want extra features or are hunting for a cache far out of the city. Thoughts welcome.
  7. Thanks for your help dfx and Brooklyn51! dfx, Yeah, I think I will look around for small caches first will try to find one in a nearby park tomorrow and let you know how that turns out!
  8. Hi Avanclan! Thank you so much for your help. Maybe we can meet up next time I am in Abu Dhabi? Will have to let you know when!
  9. Been trying to find two micro caches in my city. Been to their location numerous times and am still unable to find them. Am I just lacking the geocaching intuition? How 'big' are micro caches, anyway? Between small and nano? I'm always wary of rocks and stones, so that's usually what I look under or around. Any other tips regarding urban micro caches would be useful
  10. Thanks for the input everyone! @mpilchfamily Yeah, that was my main concern, especially since I might not be around to maintain the cache.
  11. Hi everybody! I'm a third culture kid; I currently live in Canada but I grew up in the UAE (where my dad currently resides). I visit Abu Dhabi once or twice a year, and would be interested in creating a geocache to place in my home city. Is this a good idea considering I am only there a few times a year - and thus won't be able to maintain the cache? My dad isn't familiar with GPS devices, so I am not sure whether he could maintain one on my behalf.
  12. No worries! I've only used a GPS during a Geography class (had no idea how it worked), and once I get mine, I will be equally as clueless
  13. Thanks for the clarification Wintertime! It was indeed REI's website. Will have to send them a message about it.
  14. Does anyone here use a Mac? Are there any devices compatible with the system? My heart just sank a little when I realized that the eTrex 30 was only Windows compatible (I may be wrong about this). Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
  15. Very cool! Glad the little guy made it home
  16. jjome, which site did you pre-order on?
  17. Yeah, I am really excited for this model too and I am also a little intrigued/paranoid as well! It almost seems to be good to be true. Here's hoping for the best.
  18. Really helpful, thanks everybody! Let the saving $ begin, eh? Have a good one!
  19. I'm interested in hearing about what GPS devices are popular with Canadians (some devices don't seem to have any maps - preloaded or otherwise - for Canada) and/or where some of these devices can be bought. I was looking at the Garmin GPSMAP 62 from a paperless geocaching pov - does anyone own it or have experience using it? I would be interested in anything between the $200-300 range as well. Thank you and all the very best!
  20. Thanks for the help guys! Good to know
  21. I've always identified as a "snail" - I appreciate the little guys' slow appreciation of life. I thought of putting the word bandit next to my favourite animal in the world, because I couldn't help chuckling at the irony of it. A snail bandit couldn't possibly get very far, or very quickly (with its loot). But goes to show you're not really limited by your inabilities! Who knows, maybe there is a bandit that is a snail out there, somewhere?
  22. Hi everybody! I'm sorry if this question is redundant but I was wondering if I can leave something in a cache without taking something out? Or can you only do an exchange? Thanks!
  23. Unfortunately I'm not a testament to this technique's effectiveness - but I've heard that if you apply shiny duct tape on your hat, horse flies (and other bugs attracted to light) will be drawn there instead of to other parts of your body.
  24. Hi - I was wondering, do both of the Lowrance models (Endura Safari + Out and Back) not come with Canadian maps?
