  1. You need to ensure you're CS is "connected" to geocaching.com to your profile. You should see an geocaching icon (like the 4-tiled square) in the bottom corner of the app, if I remember correctly. It's been a few months since I used my BB (had to get an iPhone...long story). Try the CS forums....Bruce will get you an answer right away. --Fryguy1111 - former Torch, now iPhone user
  2. I also use my BB Torch as my primary GPS using CacheSenseand take it with me even when out in the back country hiking. I can load PQ's in the BB and have current info about those geocaches even when out of cell range. Since the phone's GPS function uses satellites, it still works as it normally does with CS. My sons have Geomate Jr's and we use both when we go out. In their case, I load their Geomates with the same PQ's as I do in my BB and we're golden. They use their Geomates and I use my BB as it has all the details about the caches (description, past logs etc.). I've never had any need or urge to get a "real" GPSr other than the Geomate Jr's for my boys .
  3. Did you contact Brand44 info@brand44co.com, the new owners of Geomate Jr.? They have a number at 303-339-0482. Other than that, we'd need more info to help you out...details on what exactly happens when you try to run that .exe etc.
  4. My sons use a Geomate Jr. and I do believe they are updating the online cache listings at this time. Personally, I don't use those automatic lists as they limit the cache types to "traditional" and limits D/T only up to 4, I think. So I use their stand-alone .gpx loading app to manually load a PQ (the .gpx file) to the Geomate Jr. And if we want to load the Geomate Jr with more than one PQ, I use "Watcher-a GPX Utility" to merge them into one large .gpx and load that one to the Geomate Jr. It's very easy to do and the total time to do ALL of that is about 1 minute
  5. That's something I don't know about. I do have my sons' Geomate loaded with a single .gpx, though a large one of a couple thousand geocaches (a few Pocket Queries merged into one) of our area. I just download the PQ's I need and merge them with "Watcher" into a single .gpx file and load it onto their Geomate Jr. So they have a GPS with a few thousand locally available geocaches. If we're going somewhere outside of the areas covered with those PQ's, I just create another PQ for that area, and merge it with my other PQ's and load it to the Geomate Jr. And with these PQ's, geocaches with D/T of 5 are now possible, as well as multi's, puzzle, virtual, earth, and any other types are now available on the Geomate Jr. The Geomate Jr's website's regional downloads are only caches with a D/T of up to 4 and only traditional type caches....pretty limiting if you're an active geocacher Thanks for the info Fryguy1111, I googled “how to merge gpx files” and found a number of programs available. I will further check them out when I have a better internet connection. Thanks again for your assistance……mike The simplest program I found is called Watcher, a GPX utility. Just download that app from the line abovel. Then download your PQ to your PC. Then start Watcher. Browse to your first .gpx file and open/load it. Then click on File, then Merge. Browse to your 2nd .gpx file and open/load it (repeat as much as necessar). Once that's done, I think you can do a Save As and rename that newly merged .gpx file.
  6. I have a Torch 9850 and use CacheSense. No issues and and fully geocaching.com compatible via the API.
  7. I second the vote for CacheSense. I have used it on my Blackberry for years. I third that one...used Blackstar for a bit, then found CacheSense. It's the best geocaching app I've tried so far. You get a 30 day free trial...and it's the full app too.
  8. That's something I don't know about. I do have my sons' Geomate loaded with a single .gpx, though a large one of a couple thousand geocaches (a few Pocket Queries merged into one) of our area. 9. I've never seen that error, but do you get that same error when uploading a .gpx file either from the website or from the stand-alone loader? I've not heard of a CRY file... And if that doesn't work, maybe uploading a standard regions .gpx file via the website could clear things up. Then try re-loading that CRY file. Then again, I've not heard of those files, let alone on a Geomate Jr.
  10. I got permission from our towns parks department to place our cache and it was a good thing too. Once I got permission, my two boys and I got started on putting the cache together. A day later, I checked the map and someone just placed a geocache in that same park . I emailed the owner of that new geocache explaining our intention and that I had already received permission from the city to place it. He replied that he didn't get permission for his geocache and agreed to promptly removed it to allow ours to be placed . So for us, not only was it the right thing to do, it also paid off in allowing our cache to be placed .
  11. Which app did you get for your Torch? If you got CacheSense, then go to their forums. Bruce, the developer of the app will address your issue right away, but he may need some additional details, like exactly when the error happens, the version you're using, your BB OS version etc. I use CS with my Torch without any issues.
  12. Simply put, the best out there is CacheSense. I've use Blackstar Navigation, but it's not really supported, but is free. CacheSense on the other hand, is fully supported, is free to use for the 1st 30 days and then it's only $9.99 for a lifetime purchase. It uses the Geocaching.com api so it's fully integrated with the website...an awesome application and was the first 3rd party geocaching app to use the api . The forums are also active and the developer, Bruce, answers all questions promptly and quite clearly, even though he speaks Kiwi, hehe. I can't say enough about the app, but it does everything....even loading PQ's on the fly for when you plan on going outside of cell range. And should you try submit your log out in the boonies and out of cell range, CS will automatically submit it once you get back into cell range. Pretty nifty. So check it out for 30 days...it's a full and complete app too.
  13. All I can say is that the Geomate Jr. works just fine for what it does, shows a waypoint and a direction to it . The GPS is very good and holds a signal very well even under trees. The case is sturdy and water resistant and it's two AA batteries has lasted us well over 20 hours. It has a lanyard that is quite convenient when you need both hands so you can quickly just let the Geomate go and address the cache. Note that the Geomate is NOT a paperless device, so you'll need to print out the cache descriptions, hints, past logs, etc. unless you have a smart phone that can display that info for you while hunting. What the Geomate DOES display is the GC Code, the coordinates, distance to cache, direction to cache, d/t of cache, size of cache, strength of the GPS signal, how many satellite are locked onto, current lat and long etc. You can even set a HOME waypoint so you can find your car if you've been out some distance hiking for a cache . It comes preloaded with some 250,000 standard traditional caches, but no premium, puzzle, multi, virtual etc....just traditional. What you can do is what you'd do with any other GPSr devices, load one of your pocket queries (assuming you have a premium geocaching.com account) and have purchased the Geomate Update Kit. My sons use the Geomate Jr. and I load it with a single large PQ. I use Watcher - a GPX utility to merge multiple PQ's into a single extremely large PQ that I upload into my sons' Geomate. That way, I don't have to futz with it too often I use my Blackberry Torch with CacheSense and they use their Geomate Jr. and it seems to have worked just fine for our 330+ finds . For a regular price of $69, you can't beat it...and I've seen it on sale for $50 on occasion too. Edited to mention that there are only three buttons on the Geomate...and one is just the power button. So learning to use it with the two remaining buttons took my sons just a few minutes. Even my non-technophile wife figured it out, hehe.
  14. Which OS does your phone have? Is it an iPhone, Android, Windows or Blackberry? I use a Blackberry Torch and highly recommend CacheSense and given that, I would also recommend it for the Android OS as well. It's a fantastic product with amazing support directly from the developer himself. Unfortunately, I don't have an iPhone or a Windows phone, so I can't recommend anything for those OS's.
  15. The Update Kit works best with IE and I've not had any issues once I switched. But if you are using IE and getting those errors, try turn ActiveX on: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/settings/settings-28.html If using Firefox, this is from another post: You will need to change some security settings on Firefox. You will need to: 1.Type "about:config" into the URL address field and hit "enter". After saying "yes, I'll be careful", This will open up and new window. 2.Now find the entry labeled "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (It’s near the bottom) 3.Change the value to "true" by double clicking "false". You are now ready to go. Hopefully one of those helps. And if you want that geomateQtGuiApp.exe, check your email later today. I'll send it to you.
  16. I've also posted about this some time ago too. I'd love to see my happy faces and sad faces on the same map to see what I've missed and where they are on a map rather than seeing them in a list form.
  17. How many caches are actually in your PQ? Selecting 1000 doesn't necessarily mean there will be 1000 in the PQ...depends on all of your parameters of the PQ. Check to see how many show up on the preview map of the PQ.
  18. I've not had a single issues since my switch to IE and the latest Firefox seems to work as well (I got a new laptop and installed the drivers without any issues). Have you contacted Brand44 directly for support at geomate@brand44co.com? Have you tried the stand-alone Geomate GUI to import your PQ's to see if that works? I can't find the link at Geomate Jr. site, but the app is called geomateQtGuiApp.exe and may be found on the internet. You just start it, it connects to your Geomate Jr., then you browse to your PQ's GPX file and download it to your Geomate Jr. If you want the Geomate stand alone GUI and can't find it, email me and I'll zip it and send it to you.
  19. My boys use the Geomate Jr. It's very easy to use with just 2 buttons, so they figured it out in about 2 minutes . It can use your own PQ's and is water resistant too. It also comes with a lanyard and is very kid friendly. It's very durable and has good accuracy as well. And the best thing about it? It cost us less than $70 USD
  20. Since you're a premium member, you can create PQ's . For my sons' Geomate, I run a few PQ's around the area and upload the ones we might need. I've also found the program called Watcher-A GPX Utility that will merge multiple GPX files into a single one that you can then upload to your Geomate Jr. I've loaded a GPX with 1,500 geocaches (3 PQ GPX files without any issues). You can then go to the Geomate Jr. website to upload the PQ to your Geomate Jr., or just download the stand-alone uploader app that you keep on your PC. I use that so I don't need to browse to Geomate website all the time. To use it, connect your Geomate to your PC and start it, then start the app. Press the "Select File" button and browse to the GPX file you want to load. Then press "Download" to load it. Give it a minute to load and another to refresh the status of the Geomate Jr. (the "Handy Info" field). Easy-peasy!! BTW, I myself love the Geomate Jr., too. Just 2 buttons so it's easy to use, very good accuracy, water and shock resistant, a lanyard, and less than $70. My boys use this with me using my Blackberry and CacheSense. So together, we're "paperless" .
  21. I'm not familiar with GPSr's other than my boys' Geomate Jr., but I use a freeware called Watcher-A GPX Utility. You simply download the GPX files that you want to merge onto your PC. Then start Watcher. Open the first GPX file to load it. Then click the merge icon and you'll be prompted to open another GPX file. Repeat as necessary. Then once you have all the GPX files you want, just select "Save as" and name it as your new GPX file, and save it to your PC. That new GPX file will have ALL of the GPX files that you can them upload to your device. I'm assuming you can only load one like in the Geomate Jr., but this process only takes a minute to do and I can get a single GPX file with lots of geocaches listed. The most I've uploaded so far has been about 1,500....3 GPX files worth.
  22. The easiest way is to use PQ's, then just upload it to the Geomate. For example, this weekend, my sons and I are heading out of town a good 400 miles away. So I created a PQ for the route and then a 1000 cache PQ for when we get there. I used Watcher to merge both PQ's into a single one and upload it into their Geomate. So they'll now have full use of their Geomate for the way there and once we get there too. It only takes about a minute to do and works great. To compliment their Geomate, I use my Blackberry Torch with CacheSense for all the details etc. It's a good match for us and we're very happy with the Geomate Jr.
  23. I use a Blackberry Torch, but my geocaching app,CacheSense, has the ability to download multiple PQ's to my phone. So when I'm out hiking in an area without cell service, I have CacheSense use previously downloaded PQ's rather than a direct cell connection to geocaching.com. I'm betting that most iPhone apps have a similar feature.
  24. I believe CS now has a Android version they're testing. Check it out at http://www.cachesense.com/android/default.aspx. I use the BB version for my Torch 9850 and have absolutely no issues. I would think CS's port to the Android platform will be just as stable once it goes live.
  25. I agree as well, as I mentioned this exact same feature request in another thread (sorry, didn't find this one to simply comment on it). For the same reasons, I'd like to simply view the map of an area and see the blue frowny faces to see which ones I DNF'd...so I can look for them at a later date. Or another option would be allowing a PQ to display DNF's would work as well. In any case, it seems like a very simply request with lots of benefits .
