  1. The most important thing is to establish a relationship with someone in the tribe, if you have a personal relationship with a particular person things will be much much easier than if you are just another outsider wanting something.
  2. I think these are already on the market, the local government has them for several types of land use planning. Don't know what the cost is.
  3. A lot of cachers are buying geocoins now and keeping them, in some cases lots of them. this is fine, but if you activate it, it shows up in the list of trackables everytime you log a cache. How about having a seperate box/list for my trackables? I'm getting to the point where I don't want to move other peoples trackables because it's getting to be more of a bother to keep track of things.
  4. Ok that one takes the cake...with the micro hidden in it..with the coords to a little sticker under one of the pews that contain the coords to the alter...just in case the groom forgot where to go I guess the next step is to make a funeral a cache event
  5. Sorry I disagree, a REAL cacher would have stopped for the cache ON THE WAY to the hospital :>
  6. Found this log in a local cache: "In town to get married but took a few hours to cache while she got ready...thanx"
  7. You can pilot a 2 man kayak by yourself, but a 2 man kayak is like a barge, you really need 2 people to power it. I'd suggest the canoe, it can carry several times the cargo also. A kayak is for fun in white water.
  8. LAME: Caches where I have to extend my hand to a place I can't see and might have something that bites, or broken glass. Micros in the open countryside. Locations I don't want to viist because of traffic congestion or garbage. Caches that are muggled, but the owner doesn't replace or disable, so I'm looking for nothing.
  9. Hi I went to smittyware and under cachemate palm, version history: 3.5.2 May 2004 >>> Added - Ability to select category for "found" record auto-move <<<< I assume all later versions have it, I was running 4.0.1, just installed the lastest, but it didn't make a difference.
  10. I don't see that on the screen, what I see is: Distance units Delete memo after importing add time to log Merge import file records Preserve old item category OK CANCEL GPS Setup thx jimmy
  11. I've heard that a person can set cachemate so that when you mark a particular cache as "found" it will move/copy ? that cache to the found category. How do you do it? thx
  12. The reason I haven't bot the garmin maps, too many headaches.
  13. I'll nominate blocko1000, he carried 2 large ammo cans 1500' verticle up to the "Long live ammo cans" cache SE of Reno and left them so others could place ammo can caches. That was in july, a week ago when I was there, one was remaining so I carried it down & placed the cache the other day. I named the cache after him, "Blocko's ammo can" jimmy
  14. I use clayjars : Watcher, a gpx utility, free and many nice features
  15. there's a puzzle cache south of reno nevada: hoofockers, you go to the Huffacker state historial marker, look for 4 specific words, get the right letter from each word and that's the combo. a car dealer near the SHM was stealing the cache container there.
  16. that must be a really old pda, {more than 5 years old} look around and get one with a usb connection $30 bucks or so
  17. I'm having fun placing sudoku puzzle caches that have more than one solution. People have to get clues from the cache page and general area to narrow down to the right one.
  18. They don't pinpoint where the cache is and you can't zoom in or out with precision AND THEY ARE SLOW
  19. I think the number behind a persons handle should be the number of caches placed, rather than found. I'm not impressed by a large number of finds, but the people who place large numbers of good caches should get recognition for it
  20. I just got some emails that this guy http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?ul=Genius+Loci logged 2 of my caches, and he claims he found them last 20 July !!! That's 9 months ago. I looked at his cache found page and mine are back on page 21, so did he log 420 caches today? He has over 5000 total, easy if all you do enter them at this web site. Yes, I know I can go check the logs, but these 2 take the most time to get to. What would you do? delete them? or let everyone play the game the way he wants to.
  21. It's a puzzle with several waypoints
  22. First, the image must already be hosted somewhere online. www.imageshack.us is a good free site that will host your images for you. Once that is done just put the web address for the image in the following code, click the HTML box on the cache edit form, and you're in business: <img src="http://yourimageaddress.jpg"> Or, if you want a thin black border around the image, you can use this code: <img src="http://yourimageaddress.jpg"border="4"> (The number inside the quotes determines the thickness of the border.) Another way would be for you to upload the image to the geocaching site just like you did in your cache "My Portrait" Then put THAT address in the code. Like this: <img src="http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/164b06ce-739b-4615-b625-9925806e6080.jpg"> The only problem with this method is that the geocaching site sometimes resizes the image. thx great answer I'm looking to put out some Sudoku puzzle caches & that'll be handy
  23. I'd like to have a jpg image show on my cache pages, how do I do that? thx jimmy
  24. No, the basemap of highways and cities will always still be there. Many Garmins come with a set of marine POIs (bouys, lights, markers at harbors, etc.) preloaded in the map memory and that would be erased by using SendMap or img2gps. But you can download a copy from Garmin's website to restore it later if you ever want it. thx guys for the great answers, Lake Tahoe here i come
