  1. Scott! Where ya been hiding? How long had your membership lapsed? I've seen folks get their "charter member" status back but in all the cases that I've seen it was when payment was within days or a week or two at most after expiration. I'm hoping that TPTB have mercy on you and tap you on both shoulders with a hiking stick and dub you "charter member." How about it Jeremy, et.al.?
  2. That could work if all email clients provided filter or rule capability. But, they don't. Another consideration is that each bug drop generates emails to the owner and all those who are watching the event. That could amount to a significant burden on GC's servers. Making the change in the way I suggested would ease that burden probably by thousands of emails a day.
  3. OK. I renewed my membership recently and am looking forward to the upgrades and/or code rewrites. I understand that in the beginning it would have been very hard to work off of an established model because there really wasn't anything to emulate. GC.Com is rather unique in it's demands on coders and resources. Me, I'll hang in here. [How'd I do on the suck-up meter? ]
  4. I hear ya but am wondering how truly useful most of the logs can be. The ones I see simply say something like "Bug Drop" or "Kerplunk" and I'm assuming that the TB fans would have to check the cache event's page to see what was dropped anyway. I wouldn't want TBs to lose mileage, but if they were dropped into an event cache, even without the email notification they should still get credit for the distance.
  5. There's nothing consistent to base a filter or rule on. And, that would be putting the burden on the user when the problem is with the provider.
  6. Not that I saw. But, if it weren't for the abundant and unnecessary TB drop logs I would have kept it on my watchlist. I mean, come on, how useful is it to get 20 logs that simply say "Dropped off a TB"?
  7. I DNFd an event today. Pretty sad, eh? Not finding an event is like, well, it's lame. The event had a last minute half mile change in it's coordinates that I did not pick up on. The reason I didn't pick up on it is because I did not have the event on my watchlist. And, the reason I didn't have the event on my watchlist is because of the flurry of postings concerning trackables that are generated. Generally I watch an event up until a few days beforehand to see who is coming, but a couple of days to a week before I drop it from my watchlist because of the trackables. I'd like to see a change to the way trackables are dropped off at events. For events only there should be a button named something like "Drop Off A Trackable" that is separate from the current "Log Your Visit" button. After clicking on it just select a trackable from your inventory and drop it with no log generated. That way one wouldn't get inundated with trackable logs. Yeah, I know. I shoulda double checked the coordinates before I headed out but who woulda thunk a 1/2 mile change the day before the event? I learned a lesson, but if the way trackables are handled for events were changed it sure would make life easier.
  8. Tomorrow, tomorrow, the festival's tomorrow! I'm sure that y'all are just pinin' to Wanna Go!
  9. I've a grandfathered virtual at Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon, GA. A couple of the rangers there are cachers and wish very strongly that regular caches could be placed but accept the NPS decision. If they can do that, I can accept GC.com's decision. I don't have to like it, but I accept it.
  10. Other than going back to the cache you placed it in you can bring up the page for the cache where you got it. Open the travel bug's page, click on the owner's name and send him/her an email letting them know what happened. The owner then can grab it and drop it into the cache you placed it in. Problem will be that it won't appear in your inventory as you didn't formally "retrieve" it. Otherwise, that should do it.
  11. One place to start is to take a look at the caches voted best in the state by members of the Georgia Geocachers Association. Outstanding Caches If you click on the home link on the left and then go to the forums you will be taken to the GGA forums where you will get the help you are looking for. I'd help you but I don't venture into the wilds of Atlanta too often and the locals would be better able to serve you.
  12. I'm planning on the Wanna Go, but have got something already on the plate for the 24th. Looking forward to it!
  13. This Bookmark list might help you get started planning.
  14. If no one chimes in for Virginia before mid April, I can get one out. It would be near my Middle Mountain cache. I get around, what can I say?
  15. No poking intended! maybe . . . I just find it funny that the cache went for months with no finds and all I've gotta do is disable it for a while and what do ya know? Talk about timing! The Dauset Trails event has been submitted for review - GC1169W. TPTB may or may not publish it this far in advance of the date. See y'all there!
  16. My weekends in March are pretty much full. And, April ain't looking too good for me either. May? I'll be hosting a geocaching information booth at Dauset Trails Nature Center near Jackson on April 7th (it'll be an event cache so stopping by will get you a smiley). It's not too far from Popes Ferry so it's possible that we can meet up at the center and discuss and plot and scheme. Might even be able to cruise on over to Popes Ferry to assess what we'll need. See my (currently disabled) Spare Change cache for approximate location of the center.
  17. Or - You can send 200 at a time (paying attention to child waypoints) by using GSAK. Export to a GPX file with 1 thru 200, another with 201 through 300, etc. Open the GPXs with your Magellan Geocache Manager and send 'em to the unit.
  18. I'm sorry you DNF'd my Popes Ferry V cache. The road in can be a bit tricky, especially during/after a rain. About 2 years ago that area was completely cleaned up. Bulldozed. Swept by floods. Squeaky. Now you can't tell it at all. The location is used by a lot of folks for a lot of reasons. I've seen the results of weekend beer bashes and even some mud bogging. It is not surprising to me how much trash folks can leave, but it does surprise me as to what trash they leave. As for a CITO, I may be game. Shoot me a note when you want to do it and we'll see if we can set up an event. We probably won't get much local credit, but it would be a good thing to do.
  19. Just about 5 days from bug report to fix. Not too shabby.
  20. This sounds familiar for some reason. SoSuMe
  21. Alright now my Virginia brethren, get out there and place some caches! (read the fifth paragraph) Staunton
  22. It's a good idea. Sounds kinda familiar. I raised a similar issue in August and the thread just faded away. I guess TPTB have other stuff on their hands.
  23. Nothing like an official procamation to make one's day. Way to go, guys!
