    Protest

To protest the recent changes made to geocaching.com, we are temporarily disabling all our active cache hides (163 total) for one week beginning 01-18-10. If you are unhappy with the changes made to geocaching.com and want your voices heard, disable your cache hides along with us. Together we can perhaps get the point across.
  2. That's certainly your own personal problem, not Groundspeak's. Why were you using those large letters anyway? I bet they never looked good in, say, a phone anyway. Just make them regular text and everyone will be happy. It IS their problem. Like it was mentioned above, geocaching.com is built almost entirely on data provided by us. I say leave the pages just the way they are. We have over a dozen affected listings and we are going to just leave them that way. Try and view them on your phone now.
  3. Adding to your work pile in regards to "white space" challenge...see below: Just a thought...
  4. Thank you so much for the improvements to our cache listings. GC1WV3B Not!
  5. The changes have ruined many of our cache listings. Check out this cache page of ours, it used to look pretty good, but now it looks horrible! Finding Closure Carruthers Cove We plan on leaving them just the way they are. Great job Groundspeak!
  6. It does Suck! Check out this cache page of ours, it used to look pretty good, but now it looks horrible! Echo Rocks Many of our cache pages are HTML and they are all screwed up now.
  7. Let me correct that understanding. We can see disabled ("draft") cache listings as well, when testing the cache saturation guideline. A cache page does not have to be activated into the review queue in order for its spot (or spots) to be protected while the owner works on permission, gets ready for an event, or constructs a custom container. Create the cache page to protect the spot(s), but don't enable the page until it's ready for review and publication. That's excellent. We learned something constructive today. Now we know. Thank you.
  8. *Palmetto and Nomex, who are Reviewers, had some interesting comments to the "stolen" location. *To our understanding, if the submitted cache is not in queue for the Reviewer, then the only thing that is guaranteed (not forever) is the GC (Waypoint) Number that was just created. The actual physical cache spot is not guaranteed. *It's First Come (in queue), First Served (published). The other cachers don't know whether you're submitting a cache in the exact same location as you, so nobody "stole" your location. (Edited to add: Oops, yet another Reviewer, Keystone, beat me to the post and just clarified our comments)
  9. Got Snow Shoes? Got Rain Gear? We cache in rain, hail, sleet, snow. Some caches you can only find during snow season. Just bundle up, be safe, and have fun no matter any type of weather. (There's hardly any muggles during wintertime. )
  10. We're trying to train our dog by saying, "DIG," at Ground Zero, but then, no cache can be buried so that's useless training! We've never tried clams before and since we live right on the coast, and when it's clam season, we'll have to give it a go.
  11. If he/she is the first person who signed the logbook, they get the honors. Whether they log online is a moot point. Maybe they forgot the GC# or maybe something happened to them that delayed the cache logging? Maybe they're on the road traveling extensively? Or maybe...? We email the cachers to remind them they have signed the logbook (on this date) and 100% of the responders have thanked us (as they forgot to log online). Give credit where credit is due.
  12. It keeps the PDA uncluttered. Blank cache page makes it for faster loading time.
  13. Have not heard "geobeacon" used in California. We pretty much say, "Ground Zero (GZ)" or Obvious Spot.
  14. When you find out your friend's Username, go to their profile and then see below: After clicking the yellow highlited area, just follow the directions...
  15. orcacoast.org is a community effort to create a resource of information about our area for visiting Geocachers and the tens of thousands of tourists who visit the Oregon and California coast every year. It is also for those who are interested in learning about the many new places discovered while on the hunt. If you would like to contribute information, photos, or stories about your area on the Oregon or California coast please share them in the forums, or send us an email and we will get your information posted. Happy Caching

  17. It's always sad to lose our best friend. Sorry for your loss. The sheep is his very first cache find! OK, not really but our Chocolate Lab goes everywhere with us, especially caching, whether it's caching for "just the qty" or for lengthy hikes. If there's water to be had during the cache hunts, he'll let us know that too. Our dog is part of the family so the family caches together! BTW, he's 8 months now and 80 lbs. strong!
  18. April 25 by ************* last of 5 on my harbor walk. I have a few of these type ready for me to place somewhere in Oregon. No pen so no signature. Thanks for the nice walk. April 24 by ************* Found the black container and realized that I had no pen. So no signature. But a nice place to stop. Two days in a row without a pen ? These are not finds in our book!
  19. The Sherpas don't get credit for climbing the mountain, only the climbers who make it to the top.
  20. That's easy, just create a "Slacker Section" on the cache page for those cachers that don't include a photo of themselves on top of the pillar. That's what we did for our cache that required a photo taken on top of Snow Mtn Snow Mtn. Challenge. We also didn't want the team mega-finds of geocaching to be able to log our cache if all the members did not climb the mountain. If you can't make them, shame them!
  21. Personally we prefer using a filter like the Katadyn Hiker Microfilter. Because the carbon core helps reduce bad taste and smell.
