  1. I actually recieved 1 rebate today, but they spelled my name wrong..HA! Not sure who its from though....so i'm sure its all good and stuff..

Glad to hear you received your first rebate. The Garmin rebate will come from New Rochelle, N.Y. and the GpsExplorer check will be sent from Douglas, AZ.

    Good luck.

  2. I still havent recieved my rebates from gpsexplorer or garmin....I sent them both around 3-4 months ago..........AHHH......

Try calling both Garmin and GpsExplorer.com to ask about your rebates. I called each after 30 days just to confirm that my rebate coupons were infact received. My check from Garmin was received in 9 weeks. GpsExplorer took 14 weeks.

  3. Anyone looking to get a new GPS might want to check out www.gpsexplorer.com I just bought a 60cs from there last Tuesday, and according to UPS, it will be delivered tomorrow...Monday. They have no tax and free shipping...I did quite a bit of shopping around and haven't found it for this cheap anywhere...not even used ones on ebay can beat that price.

Just thought I'd share this with everyone here

    SixTen

I Purchased my 60cs from them in March for the same price and rebate deal. You're right... this still appears to be the best deal out there for that GPSr. I received the first $50.00 rebate on May 5th and just received the second $50.00 rebate on June 25th. You can expect approximately 10-12 weeks to receive both rebate checks.

Congrats! and hope you enjoy your new 60CS.

  4. GSAK should send over whatever you have displayed at the time. It's not the case that your 60cs memory is already full, is it?

I can't recall, but different settings may "stick" for different databases. Inspect and compare the export dialogs boxs carefully to ensure that the new one matches the one that works.

I've been going at this for hours without a clue as to what I may have changed that is now causing this problem. I expect it may have been firmware related since I updated to Gpsmap 3.90. With the previous version I would always hear an audible when the transfer completed, not so with thiis version for some reason. I can't explain how this happened but as I walked away from my laptop I heard that sound from my 60CS and this tiime each and every waypoint was sent. Go figure!!! I must have some type of conflict on my system. At any rate, it's fine now and I'm ready for my trip. The thought of having to manually enter waypoints was wearing me down. :D

I appreciate all of the help offered here.

  5. Thanks to all who have taken to time to reply. GSAK is sending OK from the database I had set up previously for local caches but not from the latest database I set up for my trip. I clearly screwed up somehow. I just can't figure it out at this point. Why would my original database send to GPSr but not a new database?

  6. I installed Mapsource City Select.  Would this have caused GSAK to stop working properly?

Yes if you have it open at the same time. If so the first program open grabs the com port and the other one won't be able to access it.

Thanks. I did have Mapsource open but have since re-booted and ran only GSAK. Now when I attempt a send to waypoints to my GPSr I get "OK Finished" but the waypoints surely are not to be found on my 60CS.

Also checked my device manager and Garnin is listed as well as the latest driver 2.1

  7. The most common cause for this is a PDA sync program grabbing the port at startup. Have you added PDA software lately. Other causes can be incorrect interface setting on your GPSr (did you change it to NMEA for use with another program?) or bad cables.

I don't have any other devices plugged in. Also have the interface set to Garmin. I installed Mapsource City Select. Would this have caused GSAK to stop working properly?

  8. Has it worked in the past? If not do you have the latest GSAK and have USB checked in the GPS send dialog?

Yes it has worked previously. I also have the latest version of GSAK and the USB block checked.

Also tried re-booting, disconnecting and reconnecting.

  9. When attempting to send waypoints to myGarmin 60CS I get the following error.

Error Sending Waypoints [ERROR] GPS_Packet_Read Time-out GARMIN: Can't init COM3

This is the first time I have had this problem. It has been working previously. I'm hoping someone can help. I'm leaving in the morning for the east coast of Florida and planned on a few days of caching. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

  10. Does anyone know what's going on with nRoute downloads?  I have been trying to download v 2.4 for the past 3 days.  Their site lists the file size as 24.95 MB and the file I received was 17 MB.  I tried again and the download stalls at 20.8 MB. the past 3 days.

Well, I went from not knowing what nRoute was to having downloaded in all in 3 days time. Looks pretty cool. Will use it when we migrate (it is a snowbird thing) from Baja, Mexico, to Tracy, California on Friday. I did not have any problems downloading it the first time, I have windows XP. Good luck.

Glad to hear you like nRoute. I downloaded it with help from Team DEMP although I haven't installed it yet. I received Garmin City Select 6.5 this afternoon and now have it working with my 60CS. City Select has a nice mapping/routing program built in so I'm curious as to what features nRoute offers.

  11. I just downloaded it fine (23.8MB) from http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=575

Try a different browser, clearing your cache/Temporary Internet Files or downloading to a different location on your hard drive and see if that helps.

Thanks for the tips. I cleared my cache, deleted windows temp internet files and even tried another browser. Still no luck. All I can get is just over 17 MB of nRouteEnglish_24.exe and the download stops. I give up.

I ordered City Select 6 on ebay and was hoping to get my 60CS working with nRoute for an up-coming trip.

  12. I tried downloading it a while back. I have a 24K connection and can only download a file that large when I'm not also browsing the Internet.

    The download kept stopping.

I never succeeded and gave up . . .

I thought there may have been a problem with my computer but I have a broadband connection and never have problems downloading files from other sites. I should call Garmin and ask them if there is a problem with that file.

  14. I have the same problem with my spouse not being interested in geocaching. I've tried everything I can think of to get her to participate. She actually came along once and spent more time complaining than helping out so at this point I am about ready to throw in the towel on caching. I have already given up flying and boating. I'll be ready for shuffleboard in a few years. Do you think she might like that?

  15. I thought I would revisit the general vacinity of my first cache find to pick-up some litter I had seen but wasn't able to reach the first time. Back to the area I went with my home-made hiking stick which now allowed me to retrieve a few paper and plastic bags that were previously out-of-reach. Litter drives me crazy so having felt good about doing my CITO part, I was on my way back home when I realized my 3-week old Garmin 60CS was missing. I remember slipping it in my left hip pocket and now it was nowhere to be seen. Talk about panic! What if some fortunate but dishonest sole had picked it up in the parking lot maybe?. I had my name and phone number on it, but still no guarantee it would be returned.

How would I feel if the wheels of my Jeep found it before I did? I had a Palm III a few years ago that somehow popped off my belt clip while entering my vehicle. Of course I didn't know this until I heard a cracking sound when backing out-of my garage. Needless to say paperless caching is not in my future. My IIIxe never leaves the house.

So off I went retracing my route covered over ground. After the better part of 2 hours I found my GPSr in about 2 feet of grass, not in the vacinity of the cache, by the way. I covered a lot of ground that day. What was looking like a really expensive day turned out to be a great learning experience. I now have a lanyard and carabiner for all my gear.

  16. This software is freezing continuously since I downloaded it just earlier today. I am running a new Dell with all of the bells and whistles and my windows version is XP professional, Media Center edition. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Brad in Texas

I had the same problem yesterday and found that I was running McAfee and Windows firewalls. I removed the Windows version and GSAK is running perfectly. I don't know if this is helpful but that solved my problem.

    Good luck!

  17. I am attempting to get GSAK 5.1.4 Build 10 running properly on my laptop with Windows XP Home Edition.    When I try to enter the coordinates for my Home location under "options" "Loc" I press OK and GSAK locks-up which then requires my ending the task via Windows task manager.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have both GSAK 5.1.4 Build 10 running on a Dell Laptop with XP Home.(I also have Wrangler TJ B) )

Does GSAK run OK other wise? Can you enter waypoints? Can you select one of those as Home?

Did your coordinates look something like this? Home, N28 11.275, W82 44.439

    Notice the commas.

Those are the coordinates for the location listed in your profile.

Can you put a # in front of the coordinates and have it run OK?

I have 2 dozen locations listed and can choose any one.

    Good Luck

    Jeff

Thanks for your reply, Jeff. GSAK is working fine for me now. Yes, I am able to enter waypoints and the home coordinates are all set. I have McAfee security on my system and when I went wireless yesterday Windows also installed its firewall so I essentially was behind 2 firewalls. I removed the WinDOZE version and all is well.

    Thanks again.

  18. I am looking for some sort of screen protector for my 60CS- I know I saw some mention of it before on one of the forums, but when I do a search I don't find anything specific.  I am not even sure I am at the right spot to ask this...help please....

Can anyone steer me to where I need to be to get something like this?  I already have a couple small scratches from something that must have been in my coat pocket the other day...

    thanks!

I just bought the Digital Camera/Camcorder screen protectors for my 60CS from Radio Shack. The product number is 16-3687. Included are 4 universal self-adhesive protective films that can be cut to fit. 1 wet/dry cleaning wipe and 1 squeegee card which is nothing more than a credit-card like angled card with the RS logo with sharp ragged edges. Cost of the kit here was $5.97. I ended up with a few small bubbles but I'm not concerned because the screen is protected.

    Hope this helps.

    B) simple trick for custom fit:

(I used, similar to yours, Fellowes WriteRIGHT PDA adhesive protector sheets) Take one and remove backing and cover GPS screen (bubbles not as important on sheet #1). Once it is applied, take a fine point Sharpie marker and trace exactly the outline you want to cut out.

Remove this sheet that has the markings and before you trim, apply it to a clean sheet. Cut out along marker lines. When you separate, sheet #2 has no markings and fits exactly onto your GPS screen. On this one, you may want to squeegee out the bubbles.

Good tip. The fit can be tricky. I was fortunate enough to save the original sticky that was on my 60CS screen, then I mounted it to a piece of stiff paperboard, squared it with the screen protector then used an exacto knife on a hard plastic surface to make the cuts. I saved the template for future applications, if necessary.
