  1. THAT is not a Groundspeak app, and is not an approved API Partner Application. Approved partners can be found > www.geocaching.com/mobile/partners/ That really bites!!! Both apps I've downloaded are not supported. It sure seems odd that the app logs me in through my GS username/password. and then shows my smiles all logs, descriptions, hints, and even premier cache if you are a premium member. It really is a pretty decent app. I also use a Garmin 62s. The phone is a bit more user friendly and I pretty much always have it and it is charged and ready for action at any point in time. Traffic jam? Pull off and cache The other app is geocache intro. It also works fine for an app. But if you prefer to use a partnered app? The link is above for the partnered apps. Whichever you use? HAVE FUN and CACHE!!!

  3. Not sure which app you downloaded? c:geo is the app linked with this site. The Geocache/Intro is another that some use. But like I say, c:geo is linked with this site. You even log in through this site. Log finds and everything else. If you go with the premium status here, you can even see the premium cache sites on your phone. Oh, IT'S FREE! Good luck & happy hunting D.P.
  4. Thanks.... That's the one...
  5. I thought this would be pretty easy. I was wrong. How in the heck do I upload pictures to the site for use. I have got them here on the site. Or at least they are an option for using as........ But for some reason they are not visible? Suggestions?
  6. Great to hear!! Glad you got a . The first of many. Welcome to Geocaching.
  7. The free app works pretty good for a quicky. As for how the compass works? Most of the apps have an arrow pointing in the direction of the cache and how many feet it is until you reach it. Even the best GPS units are only within 10'+/-. So, if you figure you could be off looking for it and they could have been off installing the cache. So in reality, you could be off up to 40' off. You will find t hat in most cases you will not be far off, and there will most likely have a pretty good idea where it is. Large sized/easy on the difficulty. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
  8. So, the other day I head out for a quick cache. I find the cache and head back to the car for the signing of the log. I'm in the car signing the log and what happens? The freakin' sprinklers come on. Dang it!!!!! So I try and wait them out, but I have a trifecta I'm trying to achieve here dangit!!!! So I get out, head back over to GZ and end up getting soaked putting it back. Thank goodness it's summer and it was a nice day (evening really) Just thought some might get a giggle out of this story. Needless to say I missed the trifecta. I think a troll has come across a local cache. It says it's an easy and from the site it should be. I just think as open as this site is, many muggle eyes can be gazing on GZ. For this reason, MANY moves need to be exercised here. Would probably make a better NC. Less activity.
  9. So, I'm a little closer. I've got the query in my computer, but loading it to my 62s is being a pain. I'm getting an loc. file issue. It's not wanting to open them. I've got the setting to gpx. but it pops up a window with an loc. file. Not sure what is up?
  10. Having a heck of a time installing a few cache sites in my new gps? Thought I had it, but NOOOOOO...... Downloaded communicator. says its connected. but when I try and send it, NOTHING..... DOH!!! NEWBIE!!!! I Think I've got it. It don't like IE!!!

  12. I can get a new 62s for 261.93 This is seeming a little high from the statements here
  13. Hello all, A few years back I met a gal that was a Cacher. The other day I got an email from Geocache.com and it sparked an interest again. I looke on the map, and low and behold, there was a cache just down the street. Which I went to find(at 3 or so in the morning)right then. No GPS needed. Now back in the day I used a Garmin???? More of a road unit I'd say. 5"w or so and was kinda triangled with a fold over antenna. Garmin??V I think. It worked, but with all this talk of paperless? And new technology??? I'm thinking a change is in order. I looked into some threads about GPS units and what I find is OUTDATED. I've liked my Garmin interface and would most likely want to stay here, unless there is something SO MUCH BETTER!!!! Hopefully you all can help. Don't want to waste time or money on an inferior product. Not that there is NO budget, but spending money right ONCE has always been my philosophy. Let me know, THANKS
  14. Thank you all!!! So, in reality, my Garmin V is acceptable for caching in the modern day. I should just get out during the day and see what comes of it. Thanks again!!! Joe
  15. Got the Bring Your Own Pencil (BYOP) and By The Way (BTW) Is FIF? Finders In Future?
  16. If it was a puzzle cache then maybe there were some numbers written on the manhole cover that you were supposed to find and use, or something like that? I really doubt they wanted you to pull the cover up & crawl inside While I did pull the lid, I did not go in. It looked about 4-5' deep and had water in it. I have looked again and now it has more clues. Claiming it is a riddle. These are the clues to the riddle I guess??? BGJAI,ACEIB,FJGFJ,IJEIJ,ACGFB,BJEIB, BYOP,BTW Then it says in the extra clue, Downhill side of tree. Any help in solving this clue? Is there a book of possible codes?
  17. The GPS works equally well at night as in the day. The satellites are not orbiting the Earth in a geo-synchronous orbit, so they will move across the sky. For best results, you want the satellites to be positioned all over the sky, not bunched up in one spot. The system works by estimating the distance from you to each satellite, and then computing the intersection of those lines. I'm not sure how to tell what the best time of day is. I just know that certain times will be better than other times because of the movement of the satellites. In my experience, the system will work best on days with no clouds in the sky, in places where there are no trees or buildings around. I realize how the GPS works..... But it is a little awkward with flashlights swarming around at night on a street corner. For the (in words of another) muggles around that are not into the game. Thanks for your concern though.
  18. Thanks Monty, The one that was in the middle of the lot was a ? cache. In the middle of the lot was a man hole. We lifted the cover and nothing. It was dark so I must have not been ale to se the the cache itself. After looking again, the description has changed to a riddle that is coded. How does one figure out these codes? I'm kinda looking for a unit that can usb upload the cache sites. Joe
  19. So what are the differences between the Oregon and the Colorado versions? I've seen both and wondered what the difference was?
  20. So then night time is not the greatest time I take it. I think I/we were in a VERY close proximity of the cache, just being new to the process and the whole mindset of the cacher it was just not our night. The V just didn't seem to have it..... Maybe it was just me. That has been known to happen
  21. I was out the other day/night with my Garmin GPS V. While it got me to the general spot it was quite challenging to say the least. It was not as precise as I thought it would be. I understand the newer models are a lot more accurate and have some real crazy features. Yes it would be nice to have a picture as the marker instead of some general symbol. But, is it really worth all that? I know that this will open a can of worms, but I really would like to know all your thoughts on the subject. By the way, we never did find the cash..... Didn't want to stir up to much curiosity on the corner. We looked for another site but it seemed to be right smack dab in the middle of a parking lot. So, we called it off for the night and would wait for another night and am now on the hunt for a better GPS. I have a couple in mind but would like to hear your thoughts first. Thanks in advance.... DP One more thing...... What is every ones view on the best prices.
