  1. More stats please! I'd like to see cache setting stats. How about combining the Favorites/Premium Logs percentage of a cache with all your other caches to get a combined mean score? "X% of premium members gave your caches favourite points!" for example. Perhaps some people would like to try and increase their score by setting more interesting caches or in more interesting places?
  2. That's a good idea about creating a public bookmark for a series, I'll have to use that in the meantime. I'd still like to see a particular series highlighted or differentiated on a map somehow. Does the Groundspeak webpage still exist where you can submit ideas (for the website as an example) and people vote on them to be actioned?
  3. Hi all I've done a search of the forums and I can't see any suggestions of "grouping caches". Rings of caches are quite visible when searching on the map, but the individual caches of that ring could still be somehow linked officially to each other. As CO, I'd like to be able to group some of my caches together in a series (that aren't in a geographical ring), because they are of a certain theme for example. Perhaps when you click on a cache on the map that belongs to a series, all the other caches within that series are highlighted? You could take it further and have a statistic on your profile for how many and which series you've completed? What do you guys think? I can't remember how to access the page for submitting requests to Groundspeak! Mr E
  4. I have the same problem. I get a message on the right of the map saying 'Personalization of the map is currently unavailable. Please try the Geocaching Beta Maps in the meanwhile!'. When I switch to the Beta Maps and enable personalization, I get my smileys back. Could they be weening people off of the old maps and onto the new one?
  5. I guess it would need to be logged as puzzle or a multi due there being no fixed cache point. With 6000 moving bikes the odds on finding it would be slim and doing maintenance would be very challenging. Still it would be well worth the 5 star rating to get the FTF. I say go for it :-) I can see the phrase, "Excuse me madam, can I have a quick look under your saddle?" causing a few problems........... Imagine spotting the said bike being ridden, grabbing a bike yourself then being involved in a madcap pursuit across London so you can examine it once it's docked! []
  6. Sorry for not being informative enough in the original post A Boris Bike is the nickname given to the relatively new bike hire system in London which is run by the Transport for London. You can find information on their website and sign up. There seem to be lots of different tariffs for usage but I know that after an initial access fee (£1 for 24 hours), you can use multiple bikes up to half an hour for free on each bike. I found them a good way of getting between cache areas in London - docking the bike at a nearby docking station, hitting a few caches then picking up another bike to move on. Using the tube system before, I didn't really get a grasp of where everything was in relation to eachother, but with the bikes I'm getting to know my way around the city a bit more. I recommend doing the following BEFORE undocking a bike: A check of how freely the back wheel spins is a good idea - some of them can be a bit sticky which will make your journey harder work! Check the brakes work and also check for any other damage on the bike (pedals etc) Adjust the seat to where you need it. Check what time you're starting so you know how long you've got until the pay increase. I've had a couple of bikes with lights that don't work. I'm not sure if it's possible to check these before departure as they run on a dynamo. If you undock a damaged bike, you can dock it again but you'll have to wait 5 minutes before you can take another bike. Also, make sure your bike is docked properly when you put it back! If it isn't, you'll continue to pay for the usage on it, or it might be pinched and you'll have to fork out a fortune! Hope that helps
  7. I've made quite a few trips into London to go caching since I started caching in June 2010. I've been borrowing a friends 2nd Boris Bike key to go caching with him on the bikes, but have now applied for my own key. I think these bikes are a great way to get from one cache cluster to another, while keeping an eye on the 30 minute limit for free usage! What are your experiences with them? Any funny stories or advice you'd like to pass on to future users?
  8. I would say finding an urban cache hidden in a dirty area where there's evidence of people having urinated or been sick at the GZ, or the GZ being filthy with rubbish floating around where you need to stick your hands. Nasty. Another thing I dislike is a cache difficulty rating being too high. Perhaps to lure people in?
  9. They drive me mad! Unless it's an imaginative hide and I have a fellow cacher with me who is willing to unravel the fiddly log, sign it in the tiny area available on the log, then try and roll it back up with cold fingers in the winter and pop it back in the nano.
  10. Same problem with me, although I've only just got into geocaching so I don't have any experience of it working!
