  1. If it's for the exercise you don't have to break the rules by logging it without signing, simply exercise to the cache but don't log it. Come back at a later date when contact isn't a concern, then sign the log and claim the find, twice the exercise for one cache that way.
  2. After hovering around $3 a gallon for the last 8 years I noticed when I went for groceries yesterday it's down to $2.19. I keep 5 jerry cans in rotation for my back country adventures but since both vehicles are full and only 1 can is empty I won't be taking advantage of the price.
  3. Would you believe......, I'm east of Arizona finishing parts to upgrade Hymie. if { "vf tbbq gb ivfvg nybat V-10 be fbhgu V jbhyq or tynq gb zrrg { else {fnsr geniryf! }
  4. Whew! Glad you guys stepped in, I was about out of BS for the BS. Wash your hands, wash behind your ears, say Ma'am to a lady, and taking your hat off inside will help you on your way to the best caches.
  5. I apologize, I made an attempt to respond but apparently my internet access failed. The link you provided provides a good synopsis of numbers interpreted by the person(s) that published the web page but includes no other specific citations, I was expecting a tad bit more, like cited raw numbers instead of another opinion, thanks!
  6. Hear, hear. I'm not a scientist or an expert on statistics but the numbers I've collected as a neophyte don't match what the media is reporting. I would propose anyone posting in this thread cite the source of their data to avoid it becoming an extension of a twitter, face-thing, rumor.
  7. Thanks for the offer but I'm good, checked caches earlier today and sunburned legs, two bloody knees plus an elbow should get me by.
  8. The area of west TX in which I'm located is very "trendy" with New York citizens for some odd reason. The local paper has reported that the county government has requested persons traveling from New York state within the last two weeks self-isolate for an additional two weeks. If a county government can trust people to self-isolate for two weeks I'll trust them to "self-disable" my caches for the same time period.
  9. Is chloroquine and mefloquine the same drug with different brand names or are they entirely different compounds? I've had a lot of experience with mefloquine and it has some rather bizarre side effects. Also, if there is a web site(s) that provides factual information without media involvement where would that be? I like to read the facts before jumping off the boat, if there are others in addition to the CDC and WHO newsletters I'm all about reading them. Above all, thank you for what you are doing!
  10. Haven't you heard? The age of personal responsibility and common sense is over, you and I are just common people and need a government to run our lives for us. /s
  11. Yes it can be "for all people, including families and their children" but I don't believe that was the original intent behind it, I doubt many caches were placed with children in mind until a phone became capable to cache with. Most of my caches were placed with responsible adults in mind, if you want to brings kids the adults are responsible for the kids. If you want a place turn kids loose and forget about them, move along to some other cache.
  12. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! So twitter is the new proponent for relaying information about infectious disease? Since it was your job to track infectious disease 10 years ago as security advisor please supply the following: worldwide death rate per month over the last 10 years for influenza, and worldwide death rate per month over the last 10 years for the current SARS-Cov-2 caused disease. Before I start running around with my arms in the air I would like to have some facts.
  13. The schools and media to are free to panic but, the disease of COVID-19 is caused by the virus SARS-COV—2, pinpoint where this variant of SARS is a problem in the US and I’ll go along with shutting down events. If memory serves me correctly SARS-1 produced a casualty count of zero in the US.
  14. Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Cordial as I can get email on the way to "these guys", thanks!
  15. That was my original intent but my supply of no-cost ammo cans is running low and I'm not keen on paying crazy prices for used ammo cans. I made a cardboard template of the seal I have on my work bench and will shop around for sheet rubber with the specs ecanderson gave. I would rather have a one piece seal but the cost of a sheet of rubber may prohibit that notion.
  16. Thanks, especially for the specs, I'm very familiar with McMaster-Carr but don't have a clue about rubber specifications. What I have is in good shape but since the seal is out I'll make a template for future use in the likely event I have to make my own with what you provided.
  17. When I clean up an ammo can for a cache container I always remove the seal to clean it and check for rust underneath. Earlier today I was working on a few and wondered about the availability of replacement seals for 5.56 and 50cal cans. So far my search has come up empty but if anyone knows of a vendor that sells such a thing I would be appreciate it if you could pass that information along. It's been 7-8 years since I purchased and replaced seals on several 30cal cans but I can't even find those now.
  18. As Hans said it's a macro that prints in the order the database is sorted, If I sort the usersort field ascending it will print in the order of planned visits. If I need to print something in addition to user notes I'll print from a custom database view. Sometimes when ordering a route that covers 1000+ miles I'll miss adding a cache to the usersort field. Rather than starting over I'll export to Excel, add a number with a decimal to the affected cache(s), then resort and print from Excel. It's personal preference on what you use to print or view the information you require, but since all my cache data is already in GSAK I tend to use it the most.
  19. I have nothing against Excel, I still export some GSAK work to Excel, but since all my notes go into a DB field for export to the GPSr I just print them from GSAK. Yes I can make it nicer in Excel but what GSAK prints is good enough for my needs.
  20. When I say take the battery pack apart this includes cutting the plastic that holds the batteries together. This gives you three pieces, two AA NiMH batteries and a plastic part. Put the plastic part between two NiMH of your liking, no need for tape, reinstall, and they will charge in the Garmin.
  21. If you want to see all the caches in a DB on a map use the LeafletMap macro Hans linked to, if you want to route from cache to cache filter on the closest 100 caches and use this macro. Routing from cache to cache has a 100 cache limit, I'm not sure if the LeafletMap macro has a limit but it just displayed 11865 caches in my current DB just fine. this
  22. The holder is two separate pieces of plastic, if you take the Garmin battery pack apart it's easy to put the two pieces on other NiMH batteries and keep the button held down, or so I'm told.
  23. THIS is what geocaching is all about IMHO, thanks for the cache link! I'm planning a long road trip that includes 18 between Enterprise and St. George, it's now evident I need to take a detour through Gunlock and add this cache to my list
