  7. In CT, we have two series of caches for the holidays, where a cache a day is posted with clues in them to the final. Cachemas 2009 Grinchmas 2009 . Both of these series are highly anticipated and enjoyed. Another area cacher has stated he has submitted 12 new caches geared around the song "12 pains of christmas".
  8. Here's a couple of containers we came across today. Neatly done for some Halloween theamed caches. Oops. Missed that the owner already posted them.
  9. Hi, In Oct, myself and some friends will be visiting the Houston area (staying near the convention center) and we're looking for some caches that "should not be missed" ideas. We will have a car and I'm sure we won't mind an hour or so drive. Any help would be appreciated. All so any warnings of what to avoid or watch out for.
  10. Perhaps the hider gave the doords to a friend to "test find" the cache. I've also seen where folks watch for drops of coins/tbs into new caches and are able to get teh coords but no other info.
  11. If I have a new log with me, I'd replace it and note it in my log. I do this as often as I can and never had anyone complain.
  12. Got my coins yesterday. They look great. Thanks for the speedy service.
  13. This has come up before and in one of those threads I heard about a tool called a quilling tool. This small tool has a slot in it. It is meant for rolling paper strips to create a streamer effect. I just got a couple of them online and gave them to my caching buddies. We put them to good use over the weekend on a caching run and were amazed at how quickly it made the job of removing and then re-rolling and putting the log back into the nanos. Although it's not to close a picture, here's what it looks like . The tool is about 3 inches long and the width of pen refill. I highly recommend it.
  14. Here are a couple of articles that give some directions. Look thru and see if they help. I know when I started out they helped me. FLA paperless caching Paperless caching. CTcachers WIKI on paperless caching.
  15. I made a jig saw puzzle out of solid wood. It is much more durable in the field than regular puzzle pieces, which turn to mush if they get damp. I've seen that done a few times here in CT. It's a fun way to solve a multi stage cache.
  16. gee, I guess I cheated today. I found 4 terrain 5 caches that were meant to be found by kayak/canoe. But since it's the dead of winter and the river was frozen and I don't owner a kayak/canoe, I decided to walk the frozen river. To me, cheating would be logging a find that my buddies found while i stayed at home/work, but i was there in spirit. However, if I'm with a group and we all hike out to a puzzle that one of has solved, I don't consider that cheating, because we made the effort to get there. Sorry, I'm not an eloquent writer, so I'll just stop here.
  17. Try hooking up with other cachers in your area. They may be able to give you one-on-one instruction which can work easier than back and forth on a board like this. Also try looking thru the GPS/technology section. Ther are lots of threads on the 60CSx units over there.
  18. Now it's in Rochester NY. Would love to get the one in Washington. Or even Brazil.
  19. Like Clan Riffster said, if your husband isn't interested, you could always go with out him. Also, as others have said, try to go with someone else. Almost any cacher would be happy to show a newbie what/how to do it. Attend an event and get to know other cachers. Another thing that's been mentioned is your choice of GPS for caching. A handheld unit would be best. Some good but less expensive units like a Garmin Ledgend is very user friendly. Of course a good mid range unit like a Garmin 60CSx is great for caching. It can be great fun and you'll go to places you didn't know about. Please give it another try.
  20. Wow. That looks real neat and very artistic. A job well done.
  21. Perhaps it's their way of honoring a recently deceased area cacher. Is the cache still alive.
  22. You can also do a web search of font's. I've done that a few times for some odd fonts.
  23. If I have things with me that can allow me to fix a cache, then I will. Mostly its replacing a full or wet log. If it's a broken container, I sometimes have a small or midsize L&L in my pack so I might replace it. I will usually note that in my log. If more people do this, it could help keep caches going longer for more people to find.
