  1. i was conflicted about the size label for my recent cache (Still Waters Run Deep). It's a plastic spice jar. It's bigger than a bison tube (micro) and key holder but smaller than a regular (ammo can/peanut butter jar). i labeled it a small. i'm still not sure if that's correct. No one has mentioned it as an issue in the logs so far.
  2. Well i couldn't wait and i did it today! Was very cool! i got a pic of my face on the rock. Took a pic of compass, and screen shot of BlackBerry screen with coords.
  3. IMHO, the picture is to show the CO that you were there. Although its no longer required, it is cool to see people at my (3) Earthcaches. I could really careless (Not being rude) if people take one.. The way I know people visited are due to my questions, obviously. I made sure to ask questions that are only found at the sites, example, information signs. I was lucky enough to find signs about the Geology of the area. I take a photo from a finder as a plus, I would hope that some people really enjoyed the area I brought them to. As the others have said I would do what you are ABLE to and enjoy the find. If you dont mind, please post a link to the EC that you plan on finding! Have fun! PaneledZero i like taking pics at cache locations! i have taken a bunch! Here's the EC i'm doing tomorrow: #044 - Those Shells Rock !!! i can't wait!
  4. Are they going to add a 'nano' sized container type anytime soon? Also, when is it appropriate to select unknown as container type?
  5. i think i will take a pic of my username with rock instead of GPSr. And maybe i can take a pic with my personal car TB and email that to the CO. It's my first one so i really want it to count.
  6. Yes, i thought about doing that and i probably will just in case. But the CO wants the GPSr and cache together. That's a good suggestion though!
  7. Ha, thanks guy for the replies! A mirror is a good idea! i'll email the CO too to see what i can do.
  8. i'm planning in doing my first earthcache this week on my bday. It's pretty close to home but i've got a problem. One requirement is to take a pic of my GPSr so that the coords are visible. Another is to have a pic of myself with the cache. i use my BlackBerry as my GPSr and it has a camera (i take a lot of caching pics) but obviously i can't take a pic of my phone w my phone. And may not be able to take a pic of me with the cache if it's huge. Any suggestions? i don't own a PC or camera and i cache alone. i don't want to buy anything either. Thanks for ideas.
  9. i would be annoyed and sad too if my cache went missing. i hope you figure it out soon and/or it's returned to you. Sorry.
  10. Turn it around - someone pays for a premium membership for the purpose of stealing/destroying caches. Utica/Rome (NY) Cache Thief Paul Repak did it for seven years, and he's not the only one. If you're of the belief that cachers are destructive and dangerous to the environment and must be stopped, $210 over the course of seven years is peanuts when you're that serious about the cause. His "probation" period expires in another month or two, will be interesting to see what happens. i never heard of that happening before. Wow. What did he do with the caches then? Throw them in a landfill. Geez. i don't understand how caches are considered trash. Aren't they the same as, say, playgrounds? They sit there until used and enjoyed. And empty until then. i wonder what the cache thieves theories are...
  11. Could an animal have gotten to it? A park ranger? Teens? i can't imagine a cacher that pays for a premium membership would steal a cache. Or any cacher for that matter.
  12. As long as people have fun hunting/finding my caches, i don't care what they say in the logs. i do enjoy longer logs but i'd never delete any. Also, i love knowing who is caching with their BlackBerry phone since i do as well. Then maybe i can exchange BBM numbers. But smartphones is another hobby of mine...so i really do like the logged from my phone logs whether that's all they say or not.
  13. Thanks for the insights. Gives me something to think about. i will for sure edit the mission to simplify it. i think i'll delete the back to FL part because they might be too many steps! It is a pretty coin and i hope i get it back after. i am willing to take the risk and trust it will move along! i will keep the second coin i received for now though.
  14. First make sure that that the person you're trying to add has edited their account to be ABLE to accept friend requests. i believe that option is OFF my default. Once your friend enables allowing friend requests, you will see the little check box when mailing them (send friend request).
  15. First make sure that that the person you're trying to add has edited their account to be ABLE to accept friend requests. i believe that option is OFF my default. Once your friend enables allowing friend requests, you will see the little check box when mailing them (send friend request). When you send that message, make sure you check the little box below the text box that says "send friend request." If you do that they'll get the friend request along with your message.
  16. If i looked and did not find, i post a DNF. If i looked 5 times, i post 5 DNF. Hurts my geoego though! Ha If i wanted to look but could not (trail flooded), i post a note saying so. If i looked but was called away i don't post anything but a field note to remind me to go back. i like posting DNF and notes to keep track of my geoactivities. Also to let the CO i was there and enjoying (or trying to enjoy) their work.
  17. i received two neat geocoins for my birthday yesterday. A Lotus Compass and a silver hiking one (haven't activated that one yet so not sure of the name). Do i send these out on missions? i activated the Lotus Compass and would like it to go to Tucson to an ashram, then the Hotel Congress then back to FL. Is this a reasonable mission? Will i get the coin back? Or are they for trading only? What does "set collectible preference" mean when i'm editing details? Thanks for any insight.
  18. The FTFers in my town seem really cool! And REALLY into caching. i'm pretty sure a few of the teams are retired so that's their advantage! More power to em! However, the FTF leaders in my town go up north for the summer so i got a chance to snag one recently! Hooray. It was ok. i didn't run into any other cachers which is what i was hoping for. But very fun to get FTF nonetheless. i love tha when i hide a new cache, people rush out to it. Makes me smile when they they log and say a few teams were there looking and chatting.
  19. Do you like virtual caches? Wish that new ones could be hidden? Sad when one of the existing ones gets archived? You can thank couch potato loggers for a percentage of that angst. For fans of virtual caches, it DOES hurt someone else's game. i've only done one virtual cache. i can't find many. i really liked it and wish they'd be allowed. i wasn't around when they were banned and i don't know why there were.
  20. Part of the fun for many geocachers is pawing through the cache contents even if they don't take/leave something. Some of us actually like leaving something. Why not clear out the junk, put in a smaller logbook and leave some room for those who like to leave stuff or trade stuff. Why remove some of the fun aspect of geocaching that many cachers enjoy, by filling the can with a big logbook? That's a good idea. i'll probably do that. And just check it occasionally for trash. i understand the fun of finding things, i just don't have the money to keep replacing swag. But i think a lot of cachers will leave neat stuff so i'll give your suggestion a try. Thanks!
  21. Thanks for this question and reply! i didn't know a wap version existed! Awesome.
  22. i still agree with the rules that CO must be able to maintain. But i just remembered a cache i found at an interstate rest stop. 35mm film canister inside fence post. It seems the community was maintaining it. i did really enjoy finding it! i suppose if the cache stays dry, logs replaced, and not broken then i don't mind who placed it from where. But i would hope that if that maintenance stops then it be archived. i wonder how that cache got through review?
  23. i'm most concerned with the impact to the environment there. i recently hid in a nice park and i purposely made my hides on, or just off, established trails and made all but one a D of 1. That way the area won't get destroyed by vigorous searching. i'll do the same with the cemetery if allowed.
  24. i don't think it's inappropriate to hide in a cemetery but i do respect people's wishes to not want their loved ones plot trampled. i'd hide so that searchers would be on the path. i found a cache in a tree in a cemetery in VT recently and i loved it! i've also done a virtual cemetery cache in my town. i like the historic aspect of cemeteries, i don't necessarily agree with burying bodies or find cemeteries sacred. But that's not the point. i'll contact my reviewer on this issue. i would think that plots are privately owned but i'm not sure. A tree should be ok but i'll find out the FL rules.
  25. i don't mind. Saves me from having to buy rubber bands. i just hid my first ammo can (all my other hides just have logs). i placed what i consider good swag in it ( 2 DVDs, unactivated travel coin, gold dollar, new kid toys like stencils and glitter, CITO bag, foreign coins, coupon for health drink, geo lanyard etc) but i fully expect the swag to degrade. And when it does i will trash all the swag and leave a log book that take up the entire ammo can. i'm just not into swag though. i like the view, hike or just the hunt. Sometimes the swag creeps me out.
