Makes sense, thanks. The actual container is average size. What I want to hide it in is huge. It will be in an undeveloped area so won't get torn up any more than the 4 wheelers do!
-
Can a cache require a little heavy lifting to find it? Can it be inside something? Or does the container have to be able to be seen with the naked eye? Thanks!

There was a bug in the Geocache Navigator app for BlackBerry that allowed PMO cahes to be shown in the app to non PMO members. I found many PMO caches and could log them by turning my Field Notes into logs. I didn't know they were PMO until after I logged them! That glitch is fixed now.

In 2 of my caches i left a buck (one was the FTF prize from another cache i got). The others i didn't leave any FTF prize because i didn't have any cash around. i think an empty log and bragging rights are enough. The $1 was more of a token. A pre-paid VISA card would be great if you're hiding near me.

Logging "Find" and did not sign log
SeekerOfTheWay replied to Take A Hike!'s topic in General geocaching topics
i was out biking with my brother when i got a quick cache. Didn't have a pen since i wasn't officially out caching. . i found the cache, took a pic of the log that had the name of the cache and the container. Posted both to my log. No big whoop. Counts for the smilie. i doubt any CO would delete that. -
good ideas for geocache containers?
SeekerOfTheWay replied to josh0322's topic in General geocaching topics
All of my caches use different containers: 1. GE Metal fuse box, inside: PVC Pipe with 2 end caps/ Home Depot $8/ $5 Home Depot. 2. Noxzema Face Pad cont/ Free 3. Plastic Spice Jar/ Free 4. Big Jiff PB jar/ Free 5. Ammo Can/ $8 6. Shell cache glued to plastic tube with snap lid/ $7 7. Bison Tube/ $6 8. Decon Container/ $4 i got my other paid caches i listed from www.spacecoastgeocachers.com. None have gotten water in them! The PVC piping seems to be the most weather proof. Probably survive a hurricane! -
Agreed. No one agrees with the OP so that says a fair amount on the subject. Closed. Ha. OP, get a BlackBerry and you'll get an instant email alert of new caches, be able to pull up the cache on the BlackBerry , and navigate right to it for your FTF...from wherever you happen to be. The app cost $19.99. i have no $300 GPSr and FTF aren't that hard to get. As a side note, as a hider, i love when my cache gets published and waiting for that FTF and the story!

No life? i guess you're trying to be rude here but i wouldn't want YOUR life! No way is that my style! So to each their own. i have work, rent, a car payment and a BlackBerry for caching. Oh and a hubbie. But i make time for caching and FTF because it's a hobby that i enjoy. Same as hiking, rafting, yoga, rock climbing, traveling. For someone with "no life" i sure have seen and done a lot! Very pleased. Peace.

FTF #3 today! Cache 7.2 miles away, published at 5:30AM. Found at 7:30AM! Woot! Happened to be my day off with no errands!

Awesome! All great ideas and good tips! i put a huge piece of velcro on the bison tube. i noticed when i took it on and off that it kinda pulled off the tube. i'll look into all these ideas. The shell idea is good too! My old shell was bright white and pink. i can paint the next one. Animal is good thought too there's rabbits, birds, alligators, bobcats and turtles in the area. Cool, thanks guys!

I have picked up heavy-duty Velcro at my hardware store, that's specifically designed to stick to difficult surfaces, but I'm very hesitant to suggest doing something that quasi-permanent to a wooden bench. Are there any metal parts of the benches at all? Bolts or anything like that? No bolts out in the open. It's all wooden. Ok, thanks. i will look into the heavy duty velcro. The one i used seemed ify.
-
The benches are painted wood. The shell cache was a shell with a tube underneath with a point. That was stuck in the ground with only the shell above.

i have 4 caches in a park, all have permits. They haven't been out very long and 2 are missing. i think it's an accident. The first one is a micro shell cache under a bench. The shell sort of stood out and is nice. i think maybe someone liked the shell and took it. The second cache was a micro bison tube velcroed under a bench a mile away. The velrco didn't stick to the tube very well so i think it fell on the ground and was either washed away (heavy rain creates floods here) or it got thrown away or taken. Any advice on how i can secure the micro bison tube under the bench other than velcro? It's very humid here and i don't think velcro will work. Or is there stronger velcro? How about the shell cache? Was it too pretty? Should i get a metal cap instead? What are some thoughts on this missing cache? Any insight would be great. i don't think it was an environmental person because 2 of the caches were fine and they are easy to find. We don't have many muggles because it's a quiet park with mostly retired people aged 60+. What tips for securing these caches and/or not getting them muggled and/or accidentaly trashed? Thanks! Shelter From The Storm Sitting Quietly, Doing Nothing The other 2 caches were regular size, one ammo can and one spice jar. Would micro hater have stolen the others? i doubt it but just a thought.

Checking logs on caches you've found
SeekerOfTheWay replied to uxorious's topic in General geocaching topics
i do it as often as you. i love reading logs (before and after i've logged) of all the caches i've done. i spend hours reading logs. -
LOL! Not your profile pic! Forum avatar!

i can only hope that someone will steal my avatar.

My reviewer is really helpful. When i started hiding caches they let me know what needed to be tweaked. i had to move a cache off a telephone pole because i don't own it. They gave me contact info for the parks department. i emailed the contact, exchanged a phone call and got my cache permits in the mail or my Sarasota Park hides. All went really well. i think cachers should get adequate permission so we keep up a good reputation

Someone's baggage claim tag. Not the one with the address, but what airport they went from and flew to. Floss.

Pictures - Cool Cache Containers (CCC's)
SeekerOfTheWay replied to AmishHacker's topic in General geocaching topics
Here's a cache container (concealer?) i made tonight. It's a metal (rust proof) dome covered in fake dead moss and real leaves and twigs. Underneath is a peanut butter jar. i just placed it tonight and sent it in for review. -
Geocache Navigator by Trimble is a great caching app for BlackBerry. It's $19.99 one time fee. There's radar mode, compass mode, map mode and cache details. You need to be MOVING for compass mode to give you accurate info. Radar mode is the same but it does better at slower speeds i've found. i've used Geocache Navigator to get all my caches. When you're new, you should go for average size or bigger caches with a D of 1 or 2. After a while you'll get the hang of how cachers hide. You also need to use some 'geosense' and think, "where would i hide that?" Geocache Navigator is also cool because you can leave a Field Note right from the cache as soon as you've found (or DNF) a cache. Then you can log onto geocaching.com from your BlackBerry and turn that Field Note into a log. Great app! There's a 7 day free trial. Give it a shot. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
