  1. I've seen this on the nanos in my area and it works REALLY well. The log sheets are very tidy and easy to remove/replace! Nanos are cute.
  2. Love this one! Nicely done! I think the size is better now but I did like the motto, including evolution!
  3. I found my first 100 caches or so as a regular member. I didn't even know about PMO cache§ because the BlackBerry App I use (Geocache Navigator, $19.99) showed me ALL caches, including PMO! When this "glitch" was fixed I was already hooked. I'm now a PM and I can't go back. As a hider I have a cache at my house marked for PMO. It just makes me feel safer that not just anyone can get a free account and see it. However I had a situation the other day where a PM and a non-PM were out caching together and found my PMO cache. The PM logged it and the non-PM left a note along with the log stating they didn't have a nice time because they couldn't get credit for the find. I emailed them, took off the PMO attribute for a day and they logged the cache. I don't want to exclude anyone but I will return it to PMO for safety reasons. If a non-PM emails me and asks for the coords or to be able to log it, I will do so for them.
  4. Yes, I think long treks and bushwacking can be fun! You hit it though, sometimes I've started a cache hunt and not been prepared. The bushwacking level does change so even noting it in the cache description would need updating. That's why an attribute would be helpful. Can be changed quickly and at least indicate low, medium or hard. Just a thought!
  5. I was adding attributes and images to my cache pages today and I noticed there's a hiking distance attribute. I like that. Are there any plans to add a bushwacking attribute similar to the hiking distance one? Some days I'm up for trail blazing and some days I'm not. The Terrain rating doesn't always cover the bushwacking element because some T's are high simply because the hike is long, even if it's all on a sandy path. Thoughts? Links? Thanks!
  6. I don't think it needs to be disabled. Just make a note on the cache page that says the Terrain rating goes up to a 4 during the wet season. That's what a lot of the caches around here say. Many of the trails get flooded. If a cacher still wants to attempt them, more power to them! I wait til the dry season, when the T is back down to 2.5!
  7. No. I always sign the log. One time I didn't have a pen. But I took a pic of the cache and log sheet.
  8. Geocache Navigator is an excellent app. I also have BlackStar (free) for Waymarking and loading routes onto my BlackBerry. Garmin Mobile works well for driving directions to the cache site.
  9. My BlackBerry Tour is as accurate as a stand-alone GPSr. I've used it to find almost 200 caches, hide 10 and I don't plan on buying a stand-alone any time soon. Besides the Otterbox defender case which protects the BlackBerry, I also have a waterproof case with a lanyard that also floats! You can get them online and from West Marine for PDAs, BlackBerry and iPhones. I have it in my backpack in case of rain or if I'm canoeing with my BlackBerry. I may get a solar charger next but I haven't found the battery to be an issue really. I've done my share of cachin in the woods and I've found many ways to save battery.
  10. Still caching in paradise here! It's getting much cooler. I've discovered a FL creature that's new to me. Caused me to DNF! Hmmph.
  11. Getting instant notification of new caches is another advantage of using a smartphone to cache. Logging from the field too!
  12. BlackBerry+ Geocache Navigator + Otterbox Defender+ Spare Battery= Awesome GPSr with OTA cache downloads, maps, driving directions, camera, ability to load to routes.
  13. I cache around Englewood, Port Charlotte, Venice and North Port. I haven't hit Sarasota yet but I get up there often and I will eventually. Would love to go to an event up that way!
  14. That's a good point! It's not too heavy now. I lightened it. My cache is published and has been found twice so far!
  15. I have to talk to people all day at work. Please don't make me talk to them afterwards too. Ahhh!
  16. Yes. It's known as the "hint chant". Repeating the hint over and over like a mantra, is known to help sometimes. Hilarious! I do this all the time as well, emphasizing different words to possibly change the meaning of the hint! The pill container is customized. The pill container is customized. The pill container is customized. Where is the friggin pill container?! My first cache attempt was a DNF too. But the hunt was fun and I was hooked!
  17. I got ONE cache only! I worked that day and had to drag myself out to get a cache. I went to one I DNF when I first started caching on a trail I know well. Spent 45 minutes searching the wrong side of the trail. When I turned to the other side of the trail to rest my eyes fell upon the cache! Very satisfying! Had a great 101010!
  18. I try to say something nice about every cache in the logs regardless of how lame or parking lot light holder dweller it may be. Some people just are not creative in hiding or logging. "Something" usually happens when you found the cache. The sun shone, the birds sang, horns honked, shopping cart accident occurred or you spotted a freaky walmartian wearing spandex and little else. The CO made some effort to hide a cache. If I would criticize someone I would try my best to be constructive. Yes! This is how I feel about leaving logs! There's always a story to tell, even quick and easy caches. LP hides, nanos on stop sighs...something happened. I'm grateful to any CO for any hide! I've never left a short log.
  19. LOL why do the smartphone users get picked on so much! Bullies! I log from my BlackBerry exclusively, from the field!
  20. I found a counterfeit (joke) winning lottery ticket ($5000) in a cache once. I was so excited until I read where you send it to...
  21. Geocache Navigator back up! Got my lazy bones up (after working all day, then dinner) and found my 101010 cache! Hooray!
  22. Geocache Navigator is down, not connecting to the site. oh well, i'm at work anyhow. But what a bummer!
