Colorado 400t maps for hiking
SeekerOfTheWay replied to SeekerOfTheWay's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks for all the links. Researching now! I used this unit to find 2 T4 caches yesterday in heavy brush, no site of the sky. It worked great! Love it. Just need to figure out how to add coords manually for multis! -
Colorado 400t maps for hiking
SeekerOfTheWay replied to SeekerOfTheWay's topic in GPS technology and devices
Awesome. Thanks for the advice, I'll check into all that! -
Is the birdseye view maps the best to get for hiking on the Colorado 400t? Is there an SD card version of it? I'm new to this GPSr and very excited to use it for longer hikes in more rugged territory. Any advice on maps would be appreciated. Also, am I able to track my progress and then trackback w/o having the City Navigator SD card?

Nice. Going to try to make it!

Any recommendations for longer/tougher hiking cache trips in FL?

Have you gone to Member Features and created new alert notifications? You can set what type of caches (among other filters such as container size) and your radius. Click on your name (Top Right), then click on Member Features. Scroll down Click on Create Also make sure the emails aren't going into your spam folder.

Agreed on all points! Nicely stated.

I also use BlackStar which is a great free app. You can create Pocket Queries on geocaching.com (PMs only), the attachment comes as an email to your BlackBerry, download the file onto your BlackBerry and then import it into BlackStar. It gives you waypoint details, hints etc. Works great. You can also show all caches on BlackBerry Maps. You can show one cache at a time on Google Maps. With both options you can get turn by turn directions right to the cache. The ability to load PQ and Routes onto BlackStar makes it worthwhile. I use a VZW 9630 to cache as well. I use Geocache Navigator which is a one time fee from BlackBerry App World. I believe it's still on sale for $9.99. Correct! Once you get away from town, if it's a long route, only the caches on the route are closest and show. Your problem is to work out if the cache is behind, or in front of you! (But the GPS should give you an indication of direction) Makes sense. I just started playing with PQs and didn't think it through. Thanks again. I can't wait to get a real GPSr!
-
Hmm, I guess it doesn't matter what list they come from. If I'm driving the route I wanted to cache, then only those caches will show up, huh? And not those from the list with caches from Town A. I guess that's true! Thanks!

Thanks guys. I don't have a GPSr yet. I'm looking to get a Garmin GPSMAP 62st (in a few months). I built 2 Pocket Queries and loaded them onto my BlackBerry, importing them to the blackStar app and it merged the 2 lists. Very unhandy!
-
Can I create several PQ's (one along a route, one of 500 closest near home) and save them separately on a GPSr? OR do the PQ lists merge on the GPSr? Thanks!

Maybe it isn't really a D1. We have a guy in our area who puts a D3 on his lampskirt hides. I'm confused. Maybe if he puts a D1 he knows nobody will look for it. As for me I don't waste my time on D1. Do you mean if you don't find the D1 within seconds you don't bother looking more? Or that you don't hunt D1's anymore (you've found a bunch). How long do you look for a D1? I like to find them so I look until I find, but I can see the point of having a 5 minute limit on D1's.

Palmetto is good. They informed me when I was breaking rules, told me who to contact to get permits, and published my caches in a timely manner. Not too shabby!

i am young. 25. i see what your saying but the problem i was having was this, i wasn't running into those positive cachers, untill now lol. That wasn't meant to be an attack. We were all young once! I hope you find whtat you're seeking!
-
You seem really young. You'll realize in time that it takes 2 to debate, 2 to fight. You don't *have to be drawn into things like that if you don't allow yourself to be. You can choose to keep company with positive people or others that suit your fancy and tune out the rest. Takes some practice but it can be done tactfully and without being mean spirit. Good luck in your adventures!

Dealing with black widow spider on cache (newbie)
SeekerOfTheWay replied to JMMN's topic in General geocaching topics
Further off topic, but spiders predate humans by several million years. Does not make spiders any more important than humans though, does it. You, sir, have obviously never known the love of a good spider. I pity you. I'm back in the "step on it" camp for now. Even a black widow would have killed another black widow so obviously there's no great abundance of compassion among the species. Oh look, I just read that "mud dauber" wasps (dirt daubers?) prey on black widows. I guess I have to like dirt daubers now. However, we have the ability to feel and choose compassion. Animals mostly do not. That's the difference. Not saying we're better or worse than other animals...just have some differences and more ability to make aware choices. -

Never walk in grass or leaves then, as you likely squish various living organisms all the time, solely so you can get off of the sidewalk. Please, save the insects! Do not walk in the woods! You know that that statment is just silly (to me). All I can say is that at least I make an effort to try and not kill things unnecessarily. I've heard ALL the anti-vegetarian slogans, arguments, jokes and debates by the way. You'll have nothing new for me. -
I'd quit if I were you. PS: That's a wink, not a smirk I always threaten to quit! But then I remember I have a membership. I also always go and find a huge ammo can or something obviously easy to get some self pride back after the horrible D1 DNF. The CO gave me a hint to the cache I posted above. I didn't go look again yet but I don't understand where they mean! Crap.
-
Ok, that's not problem. I wasn't trying to scam you or anything. I just have limited means too. Good luck getting a buyer, I'm sure you'll sell it soon!
-
LOL! Thanks for the stories. Makes me feel better! Being the only DNF on a D1 is rough too. That was me 2 weeks ago.

What's a good low cost backpack?
SeekerOfTheWay replied to fishdirt's topic in General geocaching topics
D'oh! I missed that it was a 2 year old thread too! The information is still good though! I appreciate the pack ideas! -
"so here I am...asking for opinions" Wow, harsh. You asked for opinions and I gave you mine. It's not a matter of "dealing with my feelings." It appears you're the one that cannot "deal with your feelings" when someone disagrees with you. Noted. You should have worded your OP to say that only those that support your idea should bother posting. I think I will ignore your caches and posts now anyway. Happy caching.
