  1. Yes, I need to add those. I have to look up KM to MI. I wish it showed in miles!
  2. I'm pretty sure I annoyed a hunter today. I saw the hunting season sign with some dates on it. When I hike alone I sing so that animals (bobcats and hogs) run away. I've been startled too many times by animals. Once I took off running and got lost for 45 minutes. It's in my DNF log. Anyway, I was singing loudly and a hunter appeared. Not sure if he was hiding but he gave me an annoyed arm movement and looked at me for a while as I continued to walk down the trail. I waved a hello, but he didn't wave back. I got really nervous. I'm already on edge hiking alone and I don't like coming across single men in the woods. I got my pepper spray out and ready. After a while he was gone. I was paranoid for a little thinking he may jump me up ahead. Then the thought crossed my mind that he's shoot me for scaring his hogs away. Am I wrong for singing like that? I don't want to annoy hunters but I don't want animals scaring me. Also, I do not agree with hunting at all...but that's not why I sing. Opinions? Am I over-reacting when I see a man with a gun?
  3. I don't know about Florida, but here in New Jersey, every square inch of land is owed by somebody. How do you find out who owns it? We call it "no mans land" here. Can you provide a link to one of your caches on "un-owned" land? Sure! Here's one: Nature Versus Nurture See what you can find. Like I said, I have no problem obtaining permissions and I'd rather all my caches have permits or permission. I assumed this land was unowned because I see no signs! If it is, I'll get permission! I have 2 caches waiting on permits before they're published in a state forest.
  4. I have a cache in my yard. It's listed as a night cache so I can watch, then rob the seeker! Works out well! I do really have one in my back yard but I've only seen 1 out of 16 cachers looking for it! I'm either out of the house or I just don't hear them. I raced out to meet the one couple I did see and now we're caching partners sometimes!
  5. Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I suppose I am rating based on comparisons of other local T ratings. I rated the 2.4 mile hike a 2.5 because it's a wide, clearly defined grassy trail. Florida is flat so I think it's a pretty easy hike. I probably would rate it higher in another state! Never thought of that! Thanks!
  6. Not being deliberately obtrusive - but I don't understand this as a concept. If it's genuinely un-owned what's to stop me turning up, fencing off a couple of acres and building myself a house? I guess you can! That's a good idea!
  7. Would you rate the same trail a higher Terrain because of distance? For example I have a cache 1.4 miles on a trail rated a 2. I have another cache 2.4 miles down and I rated it a 2.5 because of the added distance. Opinions? Is is correct? Thanks!

  9. I love finding homemade crafts in caches. There's a cacher here who makes I <3 Geocaching keychains and they're awesome! I also collect cachers signature items. I tend to go to the dollar store and put kid friendly items in my bigger caches. Necklace making kit, color pencils.
  10. When I used my BlackBerry to cache I'd mark the car as a waypoint, when I remembered to do that (which was rare). But the return trip was still hard because all I got was a compass arrow pointing to the car ATCF and I sometimes still couldn't find my way back, the way I came in. I stay in paths if I can but a lot of the caches I enjoy tend to leave the path and involve some trail blazing. I have may long logs about getting lost.. My new GPS (Colorado) has a TrackBack feature that is always on. It seems to work great. I can follow the line I took to the cache, back out following an arrow on the map. How do you guys...the 2 mile + hikers...find your way back? Am I missing something? Any advice on this would be great. I have a "real" compass but I don't know how to use that to get back either. Thanks.
  11. No land owner is going to allow a cache in a lamp post, in there minds it's a liability to allow people to go into the electricity. If people had to do this I doubt many would get hidden at all. I agree. Ever since I read that blog how lamp posts have live wires sometimes exposed, I've been reluctant to hunt one. That, knowing no permission was given, makes me feel like I'm trespassing.
  12. I'm in favor of getting permission to hide. I have 10 permits (or permission) for each of my hides. My other caches are on unowned land and on my property. I think LPCs that at places like Burger King need to go. They most likely do not have permission and my caching team was asked my a manager what we were doing. He didn't seem very thrilled. Not sure if that cache was removed. Getting permission and permits for caches is a bit harder work but I think it makes the CO more responsible. I see far too many abandoned caches around here. I think every cache, even Walgreen LPCs, should get permission.
  13. I have used BlackStar which is a great free app. You can create Pocket Queries on geocaching.com (PMs only), the attachment comes as an email to your BlackBerry, download the file onto your BlackBerry and then import it into BlackStar. It gives you waypoint details, hints etc. Works great. You can also show all caches on BlackBerry Maps. You can show one cache at a time on Google Maps. With both options you can get turn by turn directions right to the cache. The ability to load PQ and Routes onto BlackStar makes it worthwhile. 15. After I saw this posted on the forum before I tried it out a few times. I love it, it's funny and says it all. Not sure the other cacher knew what it was though. It needs to catch on!
  16. I was gifted a Lotus Compass and it's so pretty! Love it. I released it in a park to go out west to an ashram!
  17. Omg eww! That is vulgar, agreed! Gross! I'm outta this vomitorium!
  18. That's a bummer. Hope caches are allowed back eventually, maybe with a permit?
  19. No premium membership needed to view and log non PM (Premium Member) caches Go to the cache page At the top, Log Visit Select Found Write Long Log Submit However, if you're trying to log a Premium Cache you DO need to be a premium member to logs those. There are ways around that restriction though. I just don't know them. What's happening when you try to log it?
  20. LOL! There and after I submitted my last post I thought the same about it. This thread has backfired!
  21. Depending on what part of Florida your in maybe this cache might interest you Owasso Shalom Clothing Optional Cache It's on my to do list. Will be a great log!
  22. Huh? You do understand humour and sarcasm, don't you? BTW - didn't you just say you were done with this thread? That's some innuendo if I ever saw! Whew.
  23. Huh? Let me clear this up. Me saying the cartoon offended me as a woman, and made me happy as a vegan was a joke. The cartoon was hilarious! Loved it. I *am offended by meat eating. That's what I was referring to when I said I can disagree with what someone does (eats meat) and not take action. Because who am I to tell them how to live. All clear?
