  1. How many people who only cache on a casual basis, say 4 times a year do you think would pay a yearly membership fee? I wouldn't.
  2. I risk the wrath of many on this statement. Should chair restricted cachers place caches available to all? I understand from personal experience the fantastic frustration that mobility restriction can cause. I can get in a chair, get it on two wheels and do 360's with ease. The point I am trying to make is that placing a cache might be an adventure as enjoyable as finding a cache. Best regards, C.M.22
  3. I have found tennis ball cans surprisingly good containers. The container for the favorite cache I placed is a plastic mayonnaise jar. It has remained effective and dry for years. I now expect a mayonnaise allergy warning to be posted.
  4. " Rick Rolling" is an internet meme that should have died a year ago. It is about as clever and current as the "All your base belong to us." fad that is thankfully in it's grave. What a waste of forum space.
  5. Ahh! You are indeed correct, as is the student in junior high who always manages to remind the teacher that he has failed to assign homework. I suggest you have kiled the thread. Let's see!
  6. Ummm Convoy was sung by C.W. Mc Call OK, my Google skills failed. Also, I have a CB license (KCX-XXXX) and other credentials which require me to hop in my Kenworth and haul some logs out of here. A friend of C. W.
  7. We got ourselves a convoy! 10/4 Good Buddy! And I don't mean it that way. Regards, A friend of Tom T. Hall
  8. Ha! The odometer in my SUV stopped working about 2 years ago. Ignorance is bliss. Actually, whatever it costs to get anywhere, I am going to pay it. And studies suggest that just about everyone else will too. Of course people will fret and obsess over any price increase, usually for 3 or 4 months, then it's business as usual. Side Note: On occasion, I prop my GPS up against the windshield to follow printed directions while traveling. Of course, I would do it more often if batteries weren't so expensive.
  9. The images do beat Google Earth for areas I was interested in. The interface is not as slick as the Google offering. I'll live with that for the better pictures. It is a really nice bookmark to have in my browser.
  10. Look at the spoiler pic someone posted on one of my caches. All it takes is one person to ruin it for everyone. Spoiler Pic
  11. If different formulas yield different results you and your finders will have to use exactly the same method to get the same numbers. The only fair thing to do would be to state that on the cache page. Because of that reason, I would avoid any method that involves special equipment or software.
  12. This LINK offers a method of finding the center of an object. A little "crafty" perhaps, but no math involved.
  13. The absurdity of the backpack generator is that it is a parasitic device and only works while the wearer is walking. It will keep your battery charged while you are hiking. When you need a recharge another hike is required. Perhaps a good thing for a fat person with a cell phone habit. But just imagine the woods filled with porcine individuals engaging in loud, vapid conversation with invisible partners.
  14. This is what the cache page says: The words, "danger", "life vest" and "in case you fall in." sure jumped out at me. I think the words "xxxxx" and "xxxxx" belong in this thread somewhere. I'll let the reader decide where they apply. . .....Edited because I was name calling.
  15. Someone posted a spoiler pic on one of my caches. It can be found here: Spoiler Pic
  16. Accept the cookies, and then delete them. Problem solved. Of course you realize that many sites, such as Groundspeak, record the IP address of your intenet connection when you sign on or post messages, and that an IP address can be used to determine your internet service provider and your physical location.
  17. I would use West System epoxy to seal up the pie. It is expensive, but soaks into wood and other porous materials very well. Nearly every window in my house hase has been repaired with the stuff, which saved many dollars and the pain of replacing windows. Look in your local boating supply store to find it.
  18. Wow, it's hard to decide which message to quote. You received 5 trespassing violations in the past 4 years! I would have learned a lesson the 2nd or 3rd time. Now that geocaches are showing up in the area, it appears you have appointed yourself the local cache master who has to get involved in every cache placement in the area. In my opinion, if you see a cache in a questionable area, you should make no attempt to find it, but you should certainly send a message to the owner expressing your concern, and let them resolve the issue. It sounds to me like you should get another hobby like monitoring CB radio and reporting people who use profanity to the FCC. I suggest that if you continue your quest, you will soon gain a reputation among local cachers as a meddling buffoon, or at least someone who should find another outlet for their control issues.
  19. This cache: Cache 3 is a micro behnd a grocery store. It needs a new log. I am not interested in maintaining it. It is up for adoption. Others will will be up soon too. It is in Middleboro, MA CM
  20. It's better than trying to use the fillings of your teeth, eh? Beats nothing at all. I keep an old AOL CD I cut to fit my container for exactly that purpose. Actually, thinking you have a reliable piece of survival equipment that you can depend on to save your life is pretty bad when what you have simply does not work, and can lead you to take risks you otherwise would have avoided if you understood your equipment was useless. For instance, thinking you can start a fire because you have matches that turn out to be wet, thinking a pilot could actually see the reflection from a tin can lid, or thinking you can radio for help when you forgot to charge the batteries will all get you in more trouble than knowing you can't do those things. I did a search on CD signal mirror and found this: If you want to rely on a piece of trash as a tool to save your life, then that is your decision. I would choose to spend the $5.00 to $10.00 for a real mirror, but only because I am so conceited that I think my life is worth that much.
  21. What an absurd piece of work. I laughed at the claim that the inside of the Altoids Tin was shiny enough to use as a signal mirror. Quote: "Use the hole to point toward the plane to flash signals to them." Try and reflect a spot of sunlight onto a wall with the tin and see if it will work. The "survival saw" part made from a sabre saw blade and mounted with a nut and bolt tightened by hand was not quite as absurd, but equally useless. You could possibly cut a 1" branch with the saw blade before you ripped a hole in the tin. The inclusion of 4 fish hooks, 2 fishing flies - one wet, one dry, 5 split-shot sinkers and 15' 15 lb. test line assumes you are going to be stuck for days on end near a VERY productive fishing area, in such physical condition that you can't walk out, but can fish. The chance of that happening? You figure it out. Sorry, in my opinion, the 72 hour "survival kit" is a work of fantasy created either by or for armchair outdoorsmen.
  22. I would suggest a short message in the first cache page that a couple more are going to be placed in the area very soon. That way cachers can decide to find it or wait for the others to be listed, you don't have to ask favors of the approver, and you won't have another cacher ruin your hide by placing one nearby before your approver gets a chance to see your cache.
  23. Well, the Novia Scotia Duck Tollers have their own tread. What kind of job is tolling Nova Scotia ducks anyway?
