  1. I believe there is info about the main hotel where everyone is gathering on the cache page itself -- you can get a cheap rate if you arrange rooms through one of the event hosts (Finding Fraggle Rock). The event should be a blast -- SerenityNow and FFR did a great job with last year's Amethyst Murder Event, and I am sure Alien Encounter will outshine even that...
  2. I'll try and post something for you over on NEOGeo and Geochums and see if HikingViking or Bryan KF8G will help keep an eye on it (our Uber-Akron Cachers aka Team DimBulbs) Have no fear, NEOGeoChums are here...
  3. Lessee, I think it's 3400+ good luck on beating that...
  4. yeah, I always love getting the messages that someone's GPS had them a whole 15 feet away when they were at the cache. But we must forgive the noob, sometimes they will learn the error of their ways (and of the concept of position error in general). The problem is the multihundred find cachers that suffer the same delusion... egads....
  5. primary accent on the gee syllable, seconday accent on cash.... GE-oh-CASH-ing
  6. looks like I'm still gonna come down and cache on the first, but with as busy as things have been here for me this past week, I may have to opt out of attending Origins for the weekend and get caught up on other things... But at least I'm getting the caching in.
  7. yeah, and that way they get credit for a LTF (Last to Find) *grin*
  8. gotta agree with vargseld... I have never used the cut and paste log message (okay, so I've only found 850 caches and my busiest day was 31 finds) but I'd rather take the extra time to tell a little bit of the story with each cache. As an owner of nearly 50 caches, I much appreciate seeing a well written log come across my inbox than the 12 of 185 for the day TFTC messages... So, I take the extra time to write a 'real' log. It may take a few hours or days to get caught up on the logs, but worth it for me, and for the cache owner...
  9. and my GPS now has auto-routing capabilities and I have the Columbus maps loaded into them... Yeah, it's too hot to wrap my brain around puzzles right now... give me a nice small park/cemetery 1.5/1.5 cache right now...
  10. someone else going to Cowtown for a weekend at Origins and Geocaching? I'm planning on heading to Columbus for the 4-day weekend for some gaming and would certainly be interested in hooking up for some caching as well... as for recommendations, depends on if you like puzzles or multis -- but you can't go wrong with the northeast side of town (the inappropriately named Westerville) -- lots of good caches there. But the stretch from Dublin up north along 23 is good too, and the 315 corridor... Maybe Bjorn74 will speak up -- if he doesn't get shy... Caching and Gaming for a weekend -- life doesn't get better than that, eh?
  11. Flamingos are super-cool creatures and are laid back and enjoy the good things in life, just like your organizers for the Midwest GeoBash, hence the flamingo is our friend and mascot -- and I am from near Parma, Ohio for which the pink flamingo lawn ornament is mandatory... or something like that... SherwoodFlamingo, er SherwoodForest
  12. we've got a similar sideproject in the works in Ohio -- waypointing Ohio's cemeteries. it's still mainly conceptual at this point, but a neat way geocachers can pay back the greater community with our skills and abilities (or at least our expensive gadgets using military satellites)
  13. ah, thanks for the info, Keystone -- that would answer the questions I had for you earlier.
  14. wouldn't that overlap a lot with the geocaching group started by the wilderness Center in nearby Wilmot? Admittedly, SE Ohio is kinda underrepresented groupwise... I know some SE Ohio cachers are involved with COG, and others are involved with the Tristate group (OH,WV,KY) around Ashland. Trigo also kind of covers the area -- at least Columbiana and Jefferson counties... i'm just always concerned about groups setting their scope too narrow (As when someone mentioned starting a group in Kent, Ohio, even though that area is well covered by NorthEast Ohio Geocachers) Good luck, cache well, and see you around the bend.
  15. I too prefer the newer muted tones as compared to that old, harsh, painful on the eyes green...
  16. Congrats, Dave w.o ID hooray for the next 2000....
  17. it's already bad enough being near a state border that crosses the regions we already have -- Midwest for Ohio, Northeast for PA.... not to mention that I'm a member of 10-12 regional organizations/forums/yahoo groups to cover the areas I cache in...
  18. Personally, I like this one.... Volunteer cache reviewer since 1891. Forum moderator when Keystone lets me. huzzah for mtn-man (And he has that cute puppymonster picture, too)
  19. I realized shortly after posting that you all were talking about a different screen *oops* I had forgotten that that screen ever exists since i never use it... I stick with the latest in state page if i want to see what's going on around the buckeye state... you learn (or re-learn in this case) something new every day...
  20. Uh, Lep... the Midwest GeoBash does show quite obviously on the new caches in Ohio list... in fact the better part of the first page are all the upcoming events in the state: the coffee events, Sith Impossible VI, the MVGC events, and right there on the top, the MWGB event...
  21. Just a reminder that in 2 days, we can start reserving the sites (As we hit the 6 month reservation limit of ODNR), and to bump the thread back up the page... Hope to see y'all there... And, looks like we'll be having a Camp 'n Cache at Punderson in August -- y'all're invited to that, too...
  22. pretty fortunate that clover was taking me around to see and find several benchmarks in the Cincinnati area. And when we did the benchmark in question, we found the mark (complete in its concrete tomb) laying on the side of the road, which spurred her to call the City Engineers and get permission to take the benchmark.
  23. i would certainly be glad to help out with the maintenance of your caches whiles you are away, and I am sure some of the other NEOGeos will be glad to help out as well...
  24. Well I am planning on getting the sticker, because I realize the issue is because ODNR has gotten the budget shaft from our state legislature, so it's an unfortunate thing that they have been forced to do... And, I would certainly be willing to help smuggle any Out of Staters into any of the state parks that I frequent in the cleveland and youngstown areas... More cooperative caching -- it's a good thing...
  25. Worden's Ledges by SerenityNow in Hinckley, Ohio Sensational Super Strongsville Cache in Strongsville Gold Cliffs of Parma (maybe not winter-friendly) in Parma 8.4 Billion Mile Cache by CMP in Rocky River Reservation GPD's From Here to There cache in Burton Nelson's Cache at Nelson Ledges S.P. (careful in winter) just a short list, but there's plenty of good ones to choose from...
