  1. Plank - My area of town is pretty decent I don't think it was stolen. It was pretty trashed, tossed in there with other cables, cords, kitchen utensils. I'm thinking it's a moving day toss. Also, what if you got the thing in 2000, they games they had with it were like NHL 2001, some old Playstation one game. I bet they just never played it anymore. I don't play my PS2 much anymore because I game on my computer more often. That's why I wanted to toss some of my games in the cache too. Spread the love. CacheNCarry - I like that idea, it allows me to get it out in the field quicker than ordering a large ammo can.
  2. Thank you everyone for those answers, I'd like to stick to an ammo box if I could. I think I'm going to go with the 'Grenade Ammo Box' for the PS2, and a second regular Box to hold the games/controllers if necessary. The Grenade Box is 16.25 x 7.5 x 6 inches, while the PS2 is 11.9 x 7.2 x 3.1 inches. For those that are curious as to the back story, I was taking out the trash last night and found the PS2, controller, cables, and a couple games and all in the garbage by my town-home. I couldn't believe it. I thought it must be broken, brought it inside and cleaned it up, and it worked perfectly. I already own a PS2, and most of my friends already have a gaming system, so I thought of just pawning it off. Then another friend suggest making it into a cache. Great idea I thought! So, my goal is to create a difficult cache, somewhere in Minnesota, (where I live obviously), I'm going to add a couple of my PS2 games I don't play anymore. I just didn't know what container to put it in. I need to order that grenade container, get a spot picked and puzzle created. I'm aiming for June 18th as the weekend when it will be planted, somewhere around central MN, within a 75 Mile radius of St. Cloud, MN. You know what they say, "One man's trash, is another cacher's FTF prize!" -Eric
  3. Does anyone have any ideas on what would be a good type of container for larger caches. I'm looking for something to hold a PS2 game system and about 10 games (DVD size cases). I can only think of rubbermaid type containers. What other suggestions does everyone have? -Eric
  4. Monochrome a.k.a. Black and White screens are usually always sunlight friendly, for color screens you need to look for a TransReflective Screen. I bought a Palm Zire 31 at first, and then upgraded to a Palm Tungsten E for this reason. The screen was better and could be read in sunlight perfectly. The Zire 31 uses a lesser grade color screen. -Eric
  5. That's similar, but what I wanted was a widget that would display the cache list in the widget. Having it link to a website is very easy. That's not the goal of my widget, my goal was so that you wouldn't have to use the website. -Eric
  6. I didn't say they needed a mac. Just with OS X, you can save any page as a PDF directly. Without having to download any programs. I was just thinking as to how a cacher would get all the cache pages in PDF format. That's the easiest way for me to do it. There are probably similar programs for Windows. -Eric
  7. I haven't, but I'm sure you could do it. The only way I can think of right away is to use, OS X - Save as PDF feature, load them on a memory card, plug into palm and use Adobe Palm reader for the files. -Eric
  8. Well, after some basic programming, I'm still learning how to parse GPX files. I have a couple ideas for getting data into this widget. 1) Whenever the 'GC.com sandbox' is finished, I would have the applet connect, and using the username, pull a list of closest unfound caches. Or this could be a search done by zipcode/coords. That would be awesome! I wouldn't want to steal any thunder from the GC.com site. 2) Have the member download a GPX file and have the widget parse that for list of current unfound caches. Kinda of a neat, caching "To Do" list, no live updates with this method. 3) The last option which I considered until I realized that it violates the TOU, was having the program grab a users unfound page and reading the data from it. Jeremy any idea on the sandbox availability? -Eric
  9. I'd love to access this sandbox for the GeoCaching Dashboard widget I'd like to make.
  10. This is a rough draft of the widget for Mac OS X 10.4. What does everyone think? -Click the link to see the image in context-
  11. I'm looking for input on what other Mac Geocachers would like to see in a dashboard widget. For those who are unfamiliar, Apple Computer released an update to their OS X last month, and it has a new featured called the dashboard. It's a feature where with a push of a button or movement of the mouse, you can pull up a bunch of little commonly used tools. (i.e. Yellow Pages Search, Calculator, Weather, FedEX/UPS tracking information, Calendar... etc) I would like to create one that ties into a GC.com account and gets the list of closest caches. I started working on this last night. (Since I just got my new PowerBook with Mac OS X Tiger!) So, do any of you Mac using Geocachers have any other ideas you think a dashboard widget should include. -Eric *Click to Enlarge*
  12. I purchased one for use with Cachemate and Mapopolis. Great combo, makes finding those remote caches too easy. With regards to the screen, I just tweak the contrast to the extreme and it's fine under sunlight. Of course you have to readjust it for when you're indoors again.
  13. I haven't looked into it, but I'm assuming they are using the iPods 'Notes' feature. Just a simple way of displaying text files on your iPod. Would be kind of handy if you liked going for walks with your iPod, then could look up local cache info. -Eric
  14. Thank you for buying Ammo Cans. I'm tired of finding more and more crack plastic food containers, and rusted cookie tins. I enjoy finding ammo cans more than anything, clean, dry, well preserved contents. -Eric
  15. SOLD as of 4/20/05 3:00pm CST
  16. I purchased it about two weeks back from a friend. Thinking it would handle all the software I wanted on it. It runs Mapopolis, and Cachemate fine. The problem is to get waypoints into Mapopolis on this older Palm you had to run the GPX files through a windows only, unsupported app. I use an Apple Powerbook. I didn't want that extra hassle, I bought a Zire 31, Cachemate, and Mapopolis, (with addressbook waypoint support). I haven't tested it in cold weather climates. It's in perfect condition, a minor cosmetic scratch on the upper right hand of the case. The screen is in perfect condition. My friend bought it for class, never used it. I bought it for $45. I'm assuming it would handle cold weather climates just fine. A side note for all you PDA cachers, I went out and found 6 caches with my Palm/Cachemate/Mapopolis combo the other day... Too easy. Now instead of wandering down random dirt roads, I KNOW which roads to take. -Eric
  17. Palm m500 w/Leather Case Docking cradle and Charger $35 shipped (anywhere in the continental USA) I purchased this to run Cachemate, and Mapopolis. Found out that the Mapopolis Cachemate plug in required a Palm with OS v5 or newer, so I bought a Zire. (picture coming soon)
  18. Same problem here since yesterday. -Eric
  19. I like that idea, I know GC.com isn't a 'support' forum for that software or hardware, but it's a great community support area. To have specific software forums, and hardware forums would be great. -Eric
  20. First of all: dboggny - Thank you for your very thourough answers. I had come across the 'MapConverter' app, I may have to use that. I thought GPXtoMaplet eliminated that step. I will send you a PM to get that app. Maingray - From what I read elsewhere on the forumn, this only works with Palms with OS v. 5 or higher, not the older palms. If anyone has Mapopolis, and Palm with OS 4, let me know if that works. Maybe it just doesn't work with their demo maps. cjf - Since you're using a Tungsten C Palm, that supports the mapopolis cachemate plug in. I don't believer Palms with v. 4 of the OS do. Thanks everyone for your help. I might just have to buy a mappack and try it out. If it doesn't work, does anyone want to buy a Palm m500, with Cradle, Charger, (3) Stylus, Case for $30 shipped. -Eric
  21. Ok, I know this shouldn't be that hard. I have a: • Palm m500, PalmOS 4.0, 128 MB SD Card. • Mapopolis 5.2.1, Map of my local counties (demos) • Cachemate (latest as of last weekend) • GPXtoMaplet I've got the file loaded in cachemate just fine, but can not get the Palm to accept the MLP (maplet) file. It claims no app is associated with it when I try to hotsync it. Does Mapopolis 5.2.1 not support it? What map app with detailed back country roads are there for a Palm OS 4 device, that supports some sort of waypoint? Or what am I doing wrong with my current gear. Thanks for you help everyone, Eric
  22. I'm looking for a used Garmin, nearly any model with Mapping software installed. Name your model/map and price. Thanks, Eric
