  1. We've found some really some really gross stuff at caches before. Drug stuff, pipes, bongs, beer cans in a backpack, porn mags, a huge sword, to name a few. You never know what you will run into. Since I have kids I really try to be careful of where we go to cache these days. But one time a friend and I were caching up by Hyak and walked right into a weird Sci Fi porn movie being filmed!! That was unexpected!!
  2. What your back?? That's great! I've done my best to keep most of yours going over the last couple years. We had to loose a few due to state park issues, and new rules with adoption issues. I think all and all you will find most I have been able to protect. Bison herd #4 is missing and a new log is needed in Issaquah Visitor cache. Their needs to be some updating to the Coscto Aviation cache as well. Some serious renovations have been occuring to the area of the lake sammamish monster one, so it may be gone. Otherwise all is good. Check the cache pages and you'll see why the ones I had to let go went. Mostly due to cache page issues I had no control over. So glad you're back!!!
  3. I think you know you take more pride in being an FTF on a hard Puzzle, Multi or hike versus the drive up and get FTF. The harder you had to work to get an FTF or any cache for that matter, the more you remember it, value it, and feel good about your accomplishment. So some haven't figured that out...they will eventually as they play the game longer. We all go through phases of our desires and abilities in the game. First it is find a cache, then it is find more than one in a day, then it progresses to harder stars or multi's. Soon the FTF fix starts..and ends...then coins are the rage. Somewhere in there is the desire to hide their own caches which the first ones are usually crap. (personal experience) Then that art gets better. There are stages to caching.....everyone works through them differently. No one appreciates a great cache until they have done enough to know the difference. Let them have the micro magnetic drive up FTF's...anyone can.....soon enough they will advance in the game just as you and so many others have. Just my two cents.

    Blackout?

I've found a fair amount and have been avoiding a few but a challenge cache like that would get me in gear!
  5. I don't think he advised he was going to do this or asked anybody to adopt. Agreement with both of ya. BillP3rd's caches are among my closest, since he lives nearby, and I would have been glad to talk to him about adopting some (maybe one of the series) if he'd asked. He had some clever puzzles, and both he and his caches will be missed. I'm with you! He had some really cool puzzles and some good locations too! Is there any way you would wantto contact him and see if he would hand them over to you?
  6. I don't see anything wrong with this concept at all...how are other's to learn what is appreciated and what is not if no one ever says anything in a general forum/awards of some sort?
  7. Oops replied to wrong post.
  8. See Rothstafari's follow-up post, above. In the circumstances you describe, I bet that your local volunteer cache reviewer would be happy to remove the "needs maintenance" icon after seeing that you've addressed the maintenance issues. Not all adoptive cache owners are as charitable as you are. I have been caught in the middle of the situation where the original owner has resurfaced long after the adoption, gotten angry upon seeing that their cache listing was "stolen," and the new owner not wanting to give it back. It is a difficult situation and one which I do not care to repeat ever again. It made me regret my role in processing the adoption. I have /had an arrangement with the cache owner to take care of the caches while he was dealing with new family additions. Now it has been a long time since he has visited the site at all or responded to emails. It is an issue of his caches as being special, as in historic write ups he put a lot of work into. What I mean is he and I have an arrangement so I don't see a problem with taking care of them for him. The problem is I can't do anything about the SBA logs that have been placed. Once that happens they are done and that is not what I want to see happen.
  9. I personally have been taking care of a not recently active cacher's caches for more than a year. I did this beucase I felt they were worth being preserved. Some are really cool puzzles and some are really great hikes in my area others have really neat hides. Typically I have been watching the caches and if there is an issue I fixed it and posted a note on the page. This became an issue as I am taking care of them but can not remove a maintanence log even though I fixed it up. Since this cacher has not been active for more than 9 months and other cachers were complaining about no repsponse from the owner some SBA logs have been put in place on some. I had talked to the admin about wanting to continue to take care of them versus Archiving altogether, and was advised to put an SBA log to start the process of adoption. This new policy makes this not possible. I think it should be under the admin's discretion to transfer ownership or not....especially since many of the containers on these caches are mine now. The admin in my area are fully aware I have been helping for a year and I don't want to see the ones I have taken care of go and yes if the owner ever did start up again I would certainly give them back if he wanted them.
  10. Big family history of U of W grads. Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, Uncle, and me.
  11. I would be willing to place a cache for you. Do you prefer that it be in a major venue area such as Seattle or can it be on the outskirts of Seattle? We have no preference as to location. Only that it mean something to you and represents the state well. If you can confirm that you will take this on, I'll have the Mrs. send you the details. (HTML template, code #, etc.) Thanks! I thought I could change one of mine to fit the needs but it looks like it won't work.....the place I was thinking of would not supprt a regular that would last for any period of time. Sorry about that. Perhaps there are others in the area that can think of a great place for such a cache.

  14. Not clear on how you have helped with Big L's caches but whatever....... I believe she was thanking you for maintaining Lahontan's caches, not taking credit herself. Oh man can anyone point out I can be a butt and a #$#% sometimes...geez. Thanks PP!! I'm suffering under the old "why don't you have higher numbers deal" lately and read her log wrong!!! Sorry Hydnsek! Let's just log I'm an over worked geocaching jerk. N
  15. Hey thanks for doing that NAJ3. He has a lot of great caches out there and that is really huge to keep an eye on them. Lightning Jeff and I seem to be unofficially keeping an eye on a cachers who seems to be out due to life out here in Duvall as well. Yes it is a lot of work to keep up the Big L's caches but I feel it is well worth it as they are the caches I began with and learned so much from. He has so many great and creative caches out there and I just couldn't stand to see them go. So off I go here and there to fix some odd 60 caches!! Ha, Ha. Fixed another one today! Naj3 - thanks from me, too, for keeping Lahontan's many great caches going. I believe his 'life changes' = twins. Double the pleasure, double the fun - in more ways than one. (He already had two youngsters.) And thanks to AndrewRJ (a new dad himself) and Lightning Jeff for maintaining the ones in Duvall. Am I correct that it's BlacRaven's caches? I miss him a lot! Yes twins is the issue but I didn't wish to tell everyone about his personal life and this will be the end of broadcasting it as he wouldn't be too happy about cachers discussing his life in the forums. He is a a very private old school cacher and I would like everyone to respect his privacy please.

  17. As Far as the Cache (wp1 of a great cache) that is originallly addressed in this forum and any others owned by the cacher that has not logged in since July 2007. I personally have made an arrangement with the owner and am taking care of all of that cacher's caches until he is back to caching...as AndrewRJ (who was FTF on that cache) mentioned life changes have taken the said cacher out of the loop for a while. This to shall pass and he will be back soon to the game..I hope.

    Stolen Geocoin

I finally got a response from the people that have the coin in question due to this forum (goal #1). It was a nasty and rude response I was tempted to post here but decided aganist it. Regardless...they are keeping the coin and choosing to do with it what they feel like. My point in starting this discussion was to let others know about the situation (goal #2). I appreciate the feedback. I have more then 130 coins in circulation. Many coins get lost or muggled but this situation was different and I wanted to draw attention to these cachers and their ways (goal #3) Mission accomplished. The current holders have informed me "If you put out a coin; you leave it up to the player, muggle or who every the hell finds it to do as they please, that is part of the game. I don’t play the game for you, I play it for me. " Am I going to loose sleep over it if it gets thrown in the Pacific as I was threatened with by the current holder? No I could care less if they, out of weird spite, decided to destroy it. It was the principle of why anyone buys coins for others enjoyment and sends them out to travel. These people have chosen to not play the game as intended (not respect the wishes of the owner). Oh, well. Why anyone would act as they do I have no idea.

    Stolen Geocoin

I am willing to let it go as I have others. See "Bad Magical Coins" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a4-7495a2e543af where I have dropped four of mine that went "missing" for others to still discover. It is the fact that they are making it perfectly plain that they are keeping it that bugs me.

    Stolen Geocoin

I'm starting this topic to bring it to the attention of other cachers. I have a lot of coins out traveling and take the time here and there to see how they are faring. My son loves to track them on a map. Many of my coins have disappeared in the field and can not be tracked down. This case is different. I have become aware due to the help from another cacher that one of my geocoins I sent out as a traveler is being held indefinitely by another cacher. NAJ3 IRC Poffertjes 2006 Geocoin http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=619404 has been held by a cacher since March 2007. They dropped it in an unpublished cache more than a month ago. I have emailed them about it and gotten no response. Another cacher has emailed them repeatedly and they say they can play the game however they want. HUH??? This is stealing in my book. It's a traveler meant to be moved from cache to cache. Frankly this really burns my butt! I would like other people to know about this cacher(s)'s game play and actions. How can I clue them in on what they are doing is wrong if they won't respond to emails? My guess is they already know. People like these need to be weeded out of the system if others are to continue spending their money on things in this game for the further enjoyment of others.
  21. I have a cache in Discovery Park..Used to be biking trails..if you read the write up it is about the fact that when I was a kid we were allowed to ride our bikes on the trails in the park. NOT NOW! You can only ride a bike of any sort..even my kid's little bike on the roads.. no trails. This is one example of Discovery Parks "people" trying to control the environment and how the park is used. Now it is about caches. My biking cache is off an older paved road (read old landing strip) in a little know part of Discovery Park..under a log. It bothers no one and is in an area rarely visited by anyone unless they are chasing a dog off leash. I see no reason for the parks people to fret about such things. They should spend more time chasing down the homeless campers and the teenagers having keggers out on the bluff. As for micros in the woods..I have placed a few of those for many reasons but all need to realize..if you are looking for a micro in a wooded area..stop and think. Where is a logical place..how would the owner come back and check on it..those thoughts are key to finding a well placed micro. Destruction is never necessary and never the intent of the hider.
  22. I drove an older truck I have to the summit of tiger to do some caching. When I got back all was well except my tires had been spiked. Discovered that after I got home. The truck had polaris and other snow mobile stickers on it. Maybe they weren't so aprreciated up there. I like the suggestion of taking an older truck to trailheads I used to do that but then unloaded it recently. Maybe I shouldn't have.
  23. I'd love tips, suggestions, what to do to prevent break-ins. I know not to leave anything valuable inside, but what can I do to prevent car damage? Where else is this frequently happening? Geodeez sent me this info which I thought was very helpful and I hope it is not aproblem to post it here. We had the same experience at another location sometime ago. We learned how to avoid it. Do not leave anything in site that looks appealing. In my case I had a Sonicare tooth brush under my seat covered with a towel. They were hoping that I was hiding a purse but I wasn't so they didn't take anything. I always carry a fanny pack for my money pouch, cell phone and car keys. I never leave valuables in my car. I always keeps the floor clean so they can easily see that I'm not hiding anything. If I have a jacket or blanket I drape it over the seat so that they have a clear view. Now some of this I can't really do because I travel with two kids and constantly have "stuff" in the car. Extra changes of clothes, bags of trade items and other caching supplies, extra coats. You name it and my truck has it in it. We live in it practically. My truck is obviously more of a target due to general bags of stuff then others maybe. Leaving an obvious looking purse on the front seat was invitation enough I would assume. That they took the time to look for more told me this was someone who does this a lot.
  24. Yesterday my truck was broken into at one of the Cedar River trail access points (the one near highway 18. When we got back to the parking area I discovered my truck had been broken into. Busted out the drivers side window and looked for everything. The truck was there from 11:45 to 12:45. My purse didn't have much in it but they took it. Then Mr. Thief took the time to search for more. He found my wallet hidden under the seat and my checkbook hidden in another place. I spent the next five hours on the phone canceling this that and the other. I'm a dumb person for leaving any of it in the truck. When I parked there were four other cars and all seemed well...no broken glass on the ground no signs of mischief. But still I learned a big lesson yesterday. When I got to my truck another lady was getting her bikes out of her car. Hey…..you might not want to park here as my truck just got broken into I say. I'm not surprised she says...my friend’s truck got broken into last week here. I was just unloading the bikes and then I park my truck at the fruit stand across the street. HUH??? Oh yes she says, there are about five homeless people around here that are up to no good! In fact the highway 18 camera is turned toward here to see what's going on. Oh.... Then said friend pulls up while I'm on the phone with the police. She tells me her story...it's been going on for a while. Then mister officer informs me he just got a call two hours ago of a car break in at a trail access up 169 near by. GREAT! I wanted to bring this to the forums because I received some good advice from other cachers about how to avoid this type of occurrence. I also know of other areas this has happened to other cachers. (Donelly park trailhead and Bellevue Blueberry farm parking area). I thought here we could share our thoughts and tips on the subject of protecting our cars so others can learn from my mistake and possibly where else this is a potential problem.
  25. Thank you very much Bill for bringing attention to these coins and TB's loss/location. I know from what you said it was a great meet there....I hope whoever has my coin and the others is willing to step forward and tell us.... Your help is so greatly appreciated!
