  1. Tried to join the TRIGO Yahoo group and was denied membership, guess it is not open to everyone, even after stating this ""TRIGO does not exclude anybody"" Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator Denial email below: Hello, Your request to join the tri-go group was not approved. The moderator of each Yahoo! group chooses whether to restrict membership in the group. Moderators who choose to restrict membership also choose whom to admit. Please note that this decision is final and that Yahoo! Groups does not control group membership.
  2. But the perceived difference is the topic. Is this something that should be discussed elsewhere? But there is no difference, we all review caches from the same guidelines, but there are local, state guidelines also like cemeteries, and attacks on a volunteer reviewer will not continue Thread Closed Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator
  3. Respect: Respect the guidelines for forum usage, and site usage. Respect Groundspeak, its employees, volunteers, yourself, fellow community members, Please keep this on topic there is no difference in reviewing caches in SC than anywhere else Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator

  5. This topic is to let you know about the regional geocaching organizations near you. These groups sponsor event caches and online forums where geocachers in the same area can get to know each other and share information. Geocaching organizations play a pivotal role in maintaining good relations with the land managers for the parks and forests where we play our game. Getting involved in your local group is a great way to make new friends and find answers to questions about the local caching scene. It is up to representatives of the organizations to maintain this thread as a list of links to the Geocaching Groups in South and Southeast. Please feel free to write a brief post about your geocaching group, giving its name, the area where most of its members live, and a link to the group's website, forums or mailing list. If your information changes later on, post a follow-up post. Please do not use this pinned topic to promote individual events or initiatives that your group is undertaking. You can start separate topics for those. The moderating team may split out off topic posts into their own threads, or delete Finally, please note that this thread is not an endorsement by Groundspeak of any organization. It's just a convenient list of links.

  7. Check out the updated guidelines, on this topic. "The reviewers talked about this and asked Groundspeak to clarify what they meant. The new guidelines say that a letterbox hybrid doesn't have to be a traditional cache located at the posted coordinates. We're happy to have better guidance, and this gives more flexibility for creative caches." Thanks Keystone Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator
  8. In general we will leave it to you the community, to police yourselves. Treat others with respect. Remember that this is a public venue read by many people spanning all walks of life. 9. Bridges and caches are all about location, location, and location reguardless of size, they are reviewed on a one by one basic In the state of Tennessee six caches have been blown up by bomb squads four were under or near bridges Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator

  12. Guidelines for a Letterbox hybird: Letterbox hybrids are a mixture of letterbox and geocache. They should contain a signature stamp that stays with the box, and they must conform to the guidelines for traditional caches and therefore must contain a logbook. They must be referenced by latitude and longitude, not just clues. Guidelines for a Traditional : This is the original cache type consisting of (at a bare minimum) a container and a logbook. The cache may be filled with objects for trade. Normally you'll find a Tupperware-style container, ammo box, or bucket filled with goodies, or smaller container ("microcache") too small to contain items except for a logbook. The coordinates listed on the traditional cache page are the exact location of the cache. A container with just an object or codeword for verification, and no logbook, generally, does not qualify as a traditional cache. The key sentences’ here is “”” they must conform to the guidelines for traditional caches “”” and “”” The coordinates listed on the traditional cache page are the exact location of the cache ””” If it is any other way it would be a puzzle or a multistage / offset cache. Trust me when I say that we understand your pain but the guidelines are clear. This issues has been discussed in our reviewers forum several times for a better understanding The three caches Super_Nate linked to are about year and a half old about the time the guidelines changed to include : “”GPS usage is an essential element of geocaching. Therefore, although it is possible to find a cache without a GPS, the option of using accurate GPS coordinates as an integral part of the cache hunt must be demonstrated for all physical cache submissions”” They used to be listed like those linked to before the change Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator

  15. Yes tpye in the miles you want on the PQ page Max MC, I think catman was asking about doing a search between two distances, say one that only returns caches greater than 20 miles away but no more than 30 miles away. Unless the reviewers have access to super-secret searching features that the rest of us can't access, I don't know of a way to do that. As has been mentioned, it's simplest just to break queries down by date placed, or by difficulty (one query returns one-star only, another returns harder caches, etc). David, you are right I stand corrected, I misunderstood Max
  16. Run three PQ’s by date placed, it works for me, do the same for each radius Max
  17. Perhaps the reviewer and the cache owner came to terms about this cache and it had to stay in place for at least 90 days, the cache would them be picked up, the cache page archive , moved them a new cache page would be created Working with your local volunteer reviewer does help, one of our jobs is to help getting the cache listed within the guidelines as I did with this one.
