  1. I absolutly love mine. It gets sat locks within seconds of turning it on, and it can lock on to WAAS sats too. Compared to the etrex vista that took at least 3 minutes to get a solid lock, and I never saw WAAS once in the 3 years of owning it. Combine that with a color screen, USB port, and better battery life.
  2. In plain English, it went something like "blah blah blah blah blah blah GARMIN blah blah blah 60C blah blah blah blah blah USB blah blah blah blah blah blah blah GARMIN" I'm a programmer and that's all I heard too. This is some scrary looking code.
  3. I had no cover at all, as I was out in the middle of the potomac river, with great signal. I've just downlaoded 3.40 firmware, but havn't had a change to see if it fixes this problem yet.
  4. I've had a 60cs for about 2 months now, and this just happened to me for the 1st time yesterday. I ended up recalibrating the compas, and power cycling the GPS. that seems to have fixed it.
  5. Someone in my area hides handmade chainmail bags, and balls in some caches. One of my goals was always to find one of these items, and I finally did a few months ago.
  6. I replaces my Vista with the 60CS, so I've used both models. I don't seem to have the same problem you do with the compus seems to work the same way it did in my Vista, actually, it seems to work better then my vista.
  7. I had metroguide 4 installed in the 60cs when it first came. It constantly had me going the wrong way on One Way Streets, plus the maps are several years out of date for my area. I just got CitySelect V5, and I'm much happier with the way things work, other then having to shell out another $110. They should have some sort of upgrade pricing for people with older versions.
  8. I'm like the ability to turn off the screen while still having the unit it's self turned on. Lots of times I toss it into my backback while biking to record distance, time, and speed traveled, and only look at it when I'm done. I have a feeling that allowing the display to be turned off would give a major boost to battery life.
  9. WOOHOO! I just noticed that there is new firmware for the 60CS on garmin's site. In an act of desperation I tried doing the firmware update even though it didn't look like the GPS was working at all. It worked like a charm, although it seems that all my map and waypoint data was lost. At least I don't have a $400 paperweight anymore.
  10. I dropped my CS while out looking for a cache, the bump caused it to power off. When I turned the unit back on it just beeps at me and says "Software Missing". The only way to power it back off is to pull a battery. I tried calling Garmin, but they don't answer the phones on weekends, and I can't find any information on thier site. I'm guessing that the firmware got it's self scrambled when it fell, does anyone know of a way to do a "factory reset", to restore the unit back to the way it was? I really would like a way to fix this without having to send it all the way back to Garmin.
  11. So far so good with my unit I have had no crashes. I am curretly running Metroguide USA version 5. I will install City Select latter after I play with it awhile. I wonder if there are conflicts between the 60CS and City Select causeing some of the problems here posted? I'm using MetroGuide USA 5 also. I've eliminated teh crashing altogether by removing the Altimeter page from the page rotation in setup. I havn't crashed once since I did this. It's a temporary bandaid over the problem (i didn't pay an extar $100 for an altimeter to not be able to use it). Other then the altimeter page crashing the unit works flawlesly for me. It fits better in my hand then my Vista, and the screen is easier to read, plus map transfer over USB is soo much faster. The CS also picks up a satalite lock in about 25 seconds, and can even get a reading inside my apartment building. Once the software bugs are worked out it's going to be a wonderfull GPSr.
  12. Ok, I've been able to reproduce th crash reliably now. If I turn teh unit on, and right away start pressing the Page key, it crashes every time trying to move off of the compas page and onto the next. I found another post that says pressing Up, Right,Down,Left on the trip computer opens a debugging window. I tried it and it works, there are a lot of "Abnormal Shutdows", and "RTL Traps" listed, along with what looks like Regsiter and stack dumps.
  13. I just got my 60CS, the first thing I tried after getting a satalite lock was to see if I could recreate this bug. I have crashed twice so far, but not on the altimeter page, and only with the GPS off. 1st time was while scrolling around on the map, the second time was just flipping through pages using the "page" key.
  14. I had the same problem. I'll have to give them a call.
