  1. Funny that, I used to love watching Lovejoy to see if I could spot my old house, my mates house or any buildings that I knew well* *for those that don't know, Lovejoy was mostly filmed in Suffolk, around Bury, Long Melford, Lavenham, Sudbury and surrounding villages
  2. Pup, I think if this one is publicised well, I see no reason why it won't go mega. And also, we really ARE going to make the effort (next year is going to be more or less holiday-less for us so we are going to have more opportunity to do weekends away)
  3. I'd love to know where you go caching in East Anglia I reckon there are barely 500 in the whole area! Once you get to Newmarket / Bury and go East, you hit upon a cache every 10 miles it seems. I was staying in Bury last week and I did a quick zoom around. For a fairly sized Market town (that supports a large area) it's pretty rubbish. 35,000 people can produce just this many caches? As opposed to where I now live. admittedly, I own half the caches but even so.... You can do similar comparisons with Ipswich / Milton Keynes etc. Norwich is OK, but all the areas around are barely touched. It's a shame - East Anglia has few hills and suits the casual walker. It's mainly agricultural so isn't full of urban sprawl.
  4. Maybe we should put a note on our caches to say whether or not they are welcome. My attitude is meh. I'm not bother if anyone wants to drop them in my caches, but I'm not going to take any notice of them. If I have a log book in my caches (i.e. non-micro) I like to read the comments.
  5. when the Tiger was living there, we found most of our caches in Winchester. Some really good quality ones just off the M3 too. Facing Saints is a bit of a climb, but a cracker too. There's quite a few around the disused railway, but we haven't been down there in a while. GSAK, however, is still showing quite a few that we did are still active. In Soton itself, Hexagons is great (OK, OK, I was responsible for it for a while). The Sporting Chance was the Tiger's first cache. I made a right meal of it when I had a go and ended up in a field full of cows! Depends when you go, but if Easy Rambler have enabled Southampton City Walls by then, it's a proper old-fashioned Multi that takes you for a walk all round historic Southampton (and it's well worth it). See? You ask in a National forum and a chump from 10 miles up the road gives you some info
  6. There's a reason for the reason a lot of caches in the Midlands are PMO. Read the stickied thingy at the top.
  7. We're definite. Depends on whether it's our weekend, then plus 4 Cumulative total: 21
  8. I've got a series of animal caches out. I spent hours gathering information to put on the cache to make what is a very ordinary walk pleasurable for families. I hold no aspirations about winning an award for the quality of the mixture of nanos, micros, smalls, regulars and ammo can. It really is a very ordinary 4 mile stroll. So I have no problems if people want to put "TFTC" on the caches. Usually I get a comment of "Our 3 year old really enjoyed these" or "Little Bessie didn't complain until we reached the last 2" because they achieved what I set out to do: encourage families to get into Geocaching. I don't think I've ever had a nasty or disrespectful log - I even got an email once from a newbie family saying something along the lines of "My young family really enjoyed this - can you set some more like this please?"
  9. Did I get that right? You mean you DON'T want it in the school holidays? I think it would be difficult to persuade lots of people to go to Ireland if the kids are at school Whilst I do appreciate that many people who cache are retired etc. , there are a large number of us who have kids. I'd say 50/50. 'Caching is certainly a family sport (as we find when we go to the many events that we do).
  10. No trial version - but Market has a built in 24 hour return policy, so you'll get a day to play with it.... Does anybody know if it actually does anything (useful) that Geobeagle doesn't? I had a look at the reviews on Appbrain. http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.Groundspeak.geocaching Not favourable and most people agree it's too pricey. People with iPhones are used to paying through the nose for apps, but Android as a platform is often 50% of the price for the like-for-like products.
  11. I think we'll probably find that they will start going after the screen scraping apps from here on in..... Maybe they should have spoken to the developers of certain "other" android apps who appear to have got it right. Is there a trial version or do we have to "suck it and see?" I have no problem paying for it if it's any good (as I did with for the crackberry app, Cachemate and GSAK)
  12. What on earth is a CITO pot Mandy? If it's something you carry around to put the rubbish in, I can't imagine a 35mm film can making much of a difference to the local landscape! I've got a few Accu-Check cans from a diabetic friend, these are almost the same size as a 35mm film can but generally better as they have a hinged watertight lid, only downside is they are light colour so usually need a bit of camo tape, which is a bit awkward round the lid. But I've only got half a dozen or so, probably not enough to make it worth sending? Rgds, Andy I've found quite a few Cito pots in caches. Basically a 35mm pot with either a bin-bag or a pair of rubber gloves (depending on who the setter is) Have I got that right Mandy?
  13. As long as it's insured against those risks, it would be easier than getting a refund from Apple when you decide you don't like it. Good luck getting insurance on that. My new phone comes with free insurance and I'm not sure it's worth the paper it's written on. I can't lose it. If I'm robbed of it, it sounds as if they won't pay out unless someone is convicted.... As for accidental damage, unless I show that the double layer of cotton wool and bubble wrap were still in place when it was damaged, I'll probably be paid about £4.50 towards a new one.
  14. Rod, you might want to look at one of the ebay type shipping people. £15 sounds a little excessive. I've used parcel2go in the past. They turn up at your house or work or other, pick the stuff up and deliver it a day or 2 later. If you use the 3 day service (usually takes 1-2 days) then it's £5.95 plus VAT That's up to 25kg.
  15. That's interesting with Vodafone. I have a sim-only PAYG thingy and I have used it in the past for emergencies. However, it only offers me a £7.50 for 30 days internet tariff. How do I go about getting a tariff like above? I don't need the dongle because the one I have is already unlocked.
  16. Sounds like a good choice. My only change would have been to get a Samsung Galaxy S on contract for £20 a month. It has the option to be used as a Wireless Access Point (the same as the MiFi) and includes 300 minutes, 300 texts and 3gb interweb.
  17. lol i don't get what's the point of logging a find like that on a different note, someone definitely needs to post a NA log, CO hasn't logged in since march ... and lo, a small, blue man wanders onto the cache page... and does just that. MrsB
  18. Fine in my eyes. I often replace people's caches and people often replace mine.
  19. I don't personally check all my physical logs against online logs so it's all trust. if someone wants to cheat and say they found it, they're only kidding themselves. As an example, have a look at the logs in May on this cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...77b06&log=y Personally, if I was the owner, I would have probably removed it but only because they admitted they didn't find it!
  20. I was going to do a bit of necroposting and bring up this year old topic.... and it's probably still relevant. Anyway, whilst out and about on camping events, everyone keeps asking me where I bought my flag pole and I always explain that I bought it in Aldi as a fishing pole. Aldi have currently got all their fishing stuff out (from this Sunday) so here's a link to the fishing pole in question http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_15081.htm It's not much cheaper than the online flag people sell them for, but it's in a real shop (Which I know some people like) FYI, rather than spend lots of money on a sleeve, I simply went to my local haberdashery shop and bought some suitable black material and spent an hour with some scissors and a sewing machine.......
  21. I think you'll find you'll get a laptop in too for the £1000 it will cost over the lifetime. Alternatively, you could try: Dakota - £200 ish Panasonic Lumix DMCFS42EBS - £69.99 (excellent value for under £70) Half decent Celeron Laptop - Less than £300 That still leaves you over £400 for an entry level Android phone with built-in GPS for emergencies and some PAYG credit (get it on T-Mobile and you get 6 months unlimited interweb free apparently. It's £20 every 6 months after that)
  22. In experience, with an iPhone or an Android, 500mb is probably just about enough if you use the standard apps that come with it, do the odd bit of websurfing / facebook and pick up your email. Once you start talking about additional caching apps / surfing, you're going to hit 1gb pretty quickly. Do a search around the interweb. There's lots of android and iPhone owners who are complaining because the fair usage limits have been moved from 1gb to 500mb. Alternatively, go with t-Mobile who offer 3gb per month (free) to Android and iPhone users (when they eventually get the iPhone 4) Three (IIRC) offer 1gb. Orange, O2 and Vodafone are 500mb.
  23. I've a feeling this is going to be one of those "if only it were true" pictures. IIRC, London was the first city in the UK to be "Google Street Viewed" around Easter 2009. It was certainly up and running by last summer so I'd be surprised if it was the cache in question. Of course, TPTB may know if there was a previous cache there. Chances are, it's just the plod pulling someone by the looks of it.
