  1. Lilbig, a friend of mine tells me that he's found that he can't load big maps into his eTrex Legend if he's using a USB port from a hub - it's got to be the USB port on the motherboard. Here's his comment to me when I asked him about his unit: Hope that helps. Ross
  2. Just got my new 60CX (I really don't need the compass or altimeter) and I'm thrilled with it. I stuffed almost the entire North American continent maps into a 1 GB card so I can go ANYWHERE without having to worry about reloading maps - a big complaint I had with my GPS3+! - and the autorouting capabilities are amazing. Of course, being the experienced driver I am, I do object when the unit tries to route me along, say, the Cross Bronx Expressway, or the Cross Westchester (I KNOW how much construction delays hold up traffic, which the GPSr doesn't), but hey... I can take my route and let it autoroute me once I'm past the road I don't want to take. My only concern now is what mount to get? I need to be able to put this beast on the dashboard of my Subaru Outback and on the handlebars of my BMW R65. Any suggestions? I've seen the Garmin Auto Mount and the RAM, as well as a few other on www.cyclegadgets.com. So far I'm leaning towards the RAM mount, with a Lead Weighted Rubber Coated Dashboard base for the car. Seems like the best combination, and I don't have to stick anything to the dashboard on my car.
  3. I'm considering getting one of these units. From what I can read on Garmin's website, it looks like the only differernces between the 60CX and the 76CX is the size of the card included and the layout of the controls - is that correct? Or are there some nuances that I'm missing. And is there really a reason to get the unit with the built-in barometric altimeter as opposed to the ones without? Sorry for any thread hijack here...
  4. I'm so glad I found this topic! If I can ask you folks, is the only difference between the Vista CX and the Venture CX the fact that the Vista has an electronic compass and an barometer? And how useful do any of you find it? I have a Garmin 3+ right now, and the main reasons that I'm upgrading are 1) to be able to put the whole country into the unit (on a 2 gb card) and 2) for on-the-fly routes and route re-calculation. From what I'm seeing on the Garmin website, I can get all that with the "low-end" Venture and just buy my own card and cable, right? One more question - I see that the site linked to above claims that the Legend and the Vista can be powered by the USB cable - anyone know if the Venture can be powered by USB? (since I have a car lighter->USB adaptor for just such a reason...) Thanks for any advice you guys may have for me in advance. Ross - the dwarven one.
