  1. and if the cache repeatedly gets a low score its removed from the system? that would be a good way of cleaning up crappy caches.
  2. mosaic... yes it COULD mean a micro is a much better choice here, but i think i just didnt hide my larger cache well enough. why should I plant a second cache here? well for a few reasons... mine was underwater, insisting that the cacher get in the water, and look for something of value buried in the lake. the micro was velcroed under a bench, for those people who like to park log and go, or for those people who can cache this location when there are too many muggles around. I planted mine here, because I come to this spot often, and could replinish the box with new stuff frequently, as well as check up on it, also i had no idea there was already another cache here when i decided to plant one, i found out through the process of registering mine. they were two different goals. they were two different caches, yes they were both in the same location, on the same dock rather, so what? the whole dock was made of plastic, and pressure treated wood, and there was no way our fellow cachers could possibly destroy this spot while searching. (course there are the select few that never cease to amaze me) at any rate... i thought it would be fun to have a burried treasure chest here, besides just a lame old micro, which upon asking the cacher who reposted this cache what the deal was she said it was in memory of a now deceased member, she didnt elaborate, but you know, if someone were leaving something behind to remember me, ide want it to be large, and full of prizes. all in all, its gone now, and i am not going to try to replace it, im just gonna have to leave it at that, and plant new ones near by.
  3. hmmm.... because i complain about proximity rules, and micros being not what i consider a real find, that makes me a hypochondriac? im sorry, im not connecting the dots here.
  4. eh... im not really serious about anything in life.
  5. ah, but the difference between me and a troll, is i am going to do something about it, i just wanted to make sure i wasnt the only one who felt those things, and see what alternatives others came up with before me.
  6. well theres no off topic section from what i could see... and besides, its the same action... you sense there is treasure to be found, you go look for it in places you think it might be hidden, you do it stealthily, you collect loot, and leave the place cleaner than you found it, especially if you take anything,
  7. perhaps. Perhaps we should change the rules to make cache boxes, and bottles earth friendly, so they decompose, maybe that wouldnt trash the land. Maybe we should limit cache collectors to only finding 1 per week, so as to knock down on the traffic, maybe we should stop putting caches blatantly in front of businesses, as some sly hipster way of attracting businesses (yes i know this is illegal, but dont tell me you never found one of these before) or on maybe we should ban any paraphinilia of geocaching like shirts, bumperstickers, etc, because it attracts too many outsiders. this is a game, not a way to survive, i understand some people give geocaching a bad rap, by doing stupid crap, but those people give human beings a bad rap. and the people who get upset, should understand they are on this planet for how many years? private property is a joke, and mother nature always wins, even if the world is getting trashed, and the ozone is depleating, and animals are dying off, and this that and the other.... she wins in the end, all things here were made here, and even half lifes are not indefinite. my point is... i like leaving and finding caches, it gets me out of the house, it is an excuse for a cool date with the gf, and her dog, i like seeing kids rummage through my treasure box, even if they stole it. so what? they obviously need it more than i do. did my cache trash the planet? perhaps, but i guarantee, less than you do on garbage night. and actually all the contents in my cache even the cache itself, the rope, and the brick used to weigh it down came from the garbage. i recycled. i planted my cache some place that was man made, and therefore no extra harm was done to the enviornment, i may not have read all the strict rules in the book, which im sure are there for good reasons, but i knew what i was doing. and i knew it wasnt bad, and i knew no one would have a problem with it, turns out, i was wrong, the only people who had a problem with it were the people verifying my cache, weird that i got banned, but those people who put caches in places they really shouldnt, with crap in them they bought, with this attitude that if things got stolen, or not replaced, or craped or peed on, or trampled, or lost or this that and the other, or that the geocachers who were looking for the caches messed the spot up where they placed the cache, get published. now im rambling, i think i need a nap.
  8. dont worry, i dont take offense easily, especially on an online forum, i used to work the night shift, have been on online forums for some time. im used to getting [/i]<foul language removed by moderator>p/i] on in the beginning. its ok though, you'll love me eventually.
  9. since we are all scavengers by trade, does anyone else dumpster dive? its like the biggest most obvious, while the most oblivious cache of all, and its all over the place, generally filled with tons of good swag....
  10. hahahahaha... thats true, i should have done my homework, but honestly i wasnt tooo worried about it being stolen i figured any treasure is bound to be looted at some point, it just stinks that it was so fast, and it was camouflaged tether line, i guess it was just unusual for a brick to be tied to a dock. go figure. i got some new ideas from it though, so im going to try them out this week. watch out orlando, im gonna place some goodies around town for you.
  11. so im curious.... which of the following reasons do you generally cache for? to log you have been someplace, to see new places, to find swag, because you have nothing better to do with your free time,
  12. well i asked the owner of the micro that was established before my cahce, if we could combine forces, and make it a two part thing, but she wasnt interested. fair enough, at least i asked her. and as for archiving micros for larger ones.... is that a rule? although i dont like micros, i think thats not fair to the op. although it would be funny to hide their micro in a larger container, i wouldnt do that unless i asked the op if it was alright, honestly there are just so many freggin places to hide caches, its really not an issue, i just dont like the proximity rule, because both the op of the micro which was within 60 ft of mine was placed in a interesting location, mine was too, mine was underwater at the end of the dock, hers was hidden under a bench closer to shore on the dock. both would have made excellent finds for cachers, unfortunately mine got stolen, before it was even published which it wouldnt have been able to get published even so, because of the proximity rule. and yes my screen name is related exactly to his holy shnikes, how did you figure that one out? the a at the beginning is the initial of my first name. andy.
  13. I know where placements will work, i was trying something new, something i hadn't encountered before, how was i supposed to know there were a ton of divers that frequent that location? turns out it was taken by a group of single digit kids who were diving, found it, and i guess thought they should take it home, it was pretty filled to the brim with treasure. they took the brick sinking it to the bottom of the lake, the rope anchoring it to the dock, and everything. oh well.... as for reading the guidelines.... i think there being so many rules like that one make it unattractive to some people. geocachers will look for and sign caches wherever they are, who cares if there are two at the same park? i get that there could be an overpopulation of caches if this rule were not in place, but do you honestly believe people would oversaturate an area with caches? maybe a few really nice places would have like 3 or 4 but people wouldnt stand for more than that. i also think the idea of a travel bug is a really cool idea, but i think its silly that they have to be bought, why cant we make our own legit travel bugs? sorry to rant, but this game has some really silly aspects to it. its like a private life, a private club, the whole world is invited to but rarely are we supposed to tell them in person, they need to find out online, or in private. its funny, its like people are trying to ween themselves off of the internet by playing internet games outdoors. youre still looking at a screen, even if youre walking on the earth.
  14. wow, that got a lot of responses... yes i have been caching for some time, but always with a friend of mine, who logged the finds under her name, yes i plan on hiding a bunch of regular, and large sized caches with tons of random stuff to trade in them, if people dont have anything to trade, so be it, take what you want, i think of geocaching as treasure hunting, and if there is no treasure only a log book, what fun is that for me? oh i completely understand the treasure is finding someones secret spot, some breathtaking nature spot, or a dumpster behind a retail store, but from what i gather people geocache to find the log, how often do you cache to find some place beautiful? how often do you cache to find the cache? we should start a poll..... how often are you in a hurry and really only just want to add to your cache finds count? i cache because i also dumpster dive, and i love finding things people hide. man made things, and if they are hidden in some place beautiful so be it, if they are hidden in some place disgusting so be it, i just want to see what little nick nacks people decided wernt worth keeping, but were worth tossing in an ammo can thinking someone else might want them. micros wouldnt bother me so much if like some of you said, they were only placed in places where traffic is high, and the likelihood of someone finding your cache who is not supposed to finds it. but isnt that ultimately how a lot of us began this bad habit in the first place? jesus. dont be so uptight if someone outside the club without a gps finds your logbook. its all backed up online anyway. but people place micros in places regular sized caches could easily be hidden, and that takes up those places i could have hidden a regular cache, you cant hide travel bugs in micros, you cant hide geocoins, you cant hide squat, you cant even hide most pens, its just a slip of paper that says.... he buddy, you know what? your gps found the same slip of paper half a dozen other people found who didnt bother to throw it away. way to go! the slips of paper arnt even big enough to draw something a doodle, would be fine, so again i say... i am not a fan of micros, for those of you who are, so be it, just if you are planning to hide a cache, and you want to make it a micro, do some of us a favor and ask yourself if you could hide something bigger in the same spot. cue hateful mockery responses now.
  15. they are such a cop out, i mean ok, i understand you want people to go to your favorite spot, or you are worried about muggles, and stealth, but seriously there are like 50 caches near me and maybe out of those 50 2 are not micros. micros should not count as far as proximity goes.
  16. And it was only in place for half a day, i thought i hid it well, I tied it to a rope and sank it to the bottom of a lake tied off to the edge of the underside of a dock at my favorite park, and i went back to move it oday because there was apparently another cache within 50 ft, (who knew there was a proximity rule) and it was gone. bummer, hopefully they will return it so i can relocate it, anyone else had their cache removed or stolen?
