  1. I'm not sure I would call it a penalty, but it is set up so that avid cachers are at a disadvantage because many who have found most of the caches near their home location do have to go a long way to get the clues/jewels. In my opinion, they should assign clues/jewels to new caches, so those who are in this situation have a shot at getting different clues close to home. Assigning all the new caches as detectives (which are no longer useful after you find one of them) makes it much more difficult.
  2. I've been getting quite a few 404 errors this morning.
  3. I was signed in and working, then the site hung. When it came back, it appears that I am no longer logged in. When I try to log in, I get the 500 error.
  4. Please keep the old map. Limiting the number of caches that can appear on the map to 1000 is a step backwards. If there are caches on the map that I am looking at, I want to see them all. I also don't care for combining filters with maps. If I am looking for certain types of caches, once I find one, I still want to see the other caches that are around it.
  5. I'm using Chrome on Windows 7 and it has been slow all morning, but I eventually get to where I am trying to go. Sometimes it is pretty much normal, but other times it takes a while.
  6. Still having the same problem, a day later. The map I am referring to is when you click on the "View Larger Map" link that is above the smaller map on the cache page. This normally shows all the caches in the area, but the icons appear very briefly and just disappear.
  7. I've had the same thing happening. I am using Chrome.
  8. None of the caches I logged today, with today's date (08/13/17) are showing up for me. I really don't need the gold coins as I had enough already, but the newer ones are not showing up at the moment.
  9. I think project-gc already offers something like this.
  10. I chose the "opt out" feature. There is plenty of space on the screen as it is and no need to make it smaller. Quite honestly, you should be doing the opposite and making things bigger and use the full amount of space on the screen.
  11. Tear the bandage off, I say. Maybe painful at first, but the rare exceptions (which I still don't personally feel SHOULD be exceptions) don't really justify the frustrations that the multiple logging can cause. To set a standard now and move foreword with it is good, but to go back and attempt to rewrite history will cause lots of problems. Like I said before, I highly doubt they would delete existing duplicates. I don't see anything indicating they would do that. I'm certain they'll let existing duplicates stand and moving forward will just block new duplicates from happening. The exceptions are not so rare for those who started in this hobby early.
  12. It seems as though not much thought has gone into this. As you can see just from the posts on this thread, there are all sorts of exceptions for caches set up during the early days of caching that were approved of at that time. Perhaps Groundspeak should reconsider this.
  13. Why bother when cache owners were creating caches named "Yellow Banana Cemetery State Park Zero 01" and you could complete like 9 different challenges with one stupidly named LPC? I guess I didn't have anyone doing that near me, not that anyone should have been doing that. But to answer your question, it was a lot more fun and interesting to go get caches that were not placed for that reason...
  14. All of the challenge caches published prior to April 2015 are grandfathered and can still be found. That doesn't leave any room for anything new in that area does it? The premise that was stated that these caches are just an exercise in database management is pretty inaccurate. I made special trips to get caches with unusual names to meet challenges and it took me to places I would otherwise probably not have gone. At this point, the challenges like this that I have left to do are getting pretty far away from home for me to get to, so it would be nice if some new ones that were closer to home could be created. And yes, I will probably do some of the grandfathered ones when I have the opportunity to do so.
  15. I'm glad they are not gone completely, but it looks as if the ones that were most interesting to me, have been eliminated. The offbeat ones using cache names will be particularly missed.
  16. Well, that is better than no challenges at all, but I personally like the ones that would probably be difficult to program for. I guess I will hope that the checkers evolve to be more creative than the ones I have seen so far.
  17. I really like challenge caches and would like to see them brought back with few limits. After you have been caching for a while, they add some interest to the game. The more offbeat, the better in my opinion, because the standard accepted challenges (like Fizzy or Jasmer) become old once they are completed. New and creative ones continue to make the game more interesting.
  18. I can't imagine why that would make a difference to anybody one way or the other. If I were forced to make a choice, I would side on the smiley.
  19. I too am unable to see the pocket queries option from the PLAY menu. I can still get to it from the page you get when you click on your user name in the upper right hand corner, but it would be a whole lot more convenient if it was put back on the PLAY menu.
  20. OK, after experimenting and taking various things out of my profile, I narrowed it down to the Findstat stats, because it expanded after I removed that. That was using a version I got after the changes in December. I'll have to see if maybe there is a newer version available. I suspect something changed at Groundspeak more recently, since I know that I was able to view my profile, including the findstat generated stats, earlier this week with no problem.
  21. This may only impact me, but when I look at my profile this morning, the picture and stats I have in my Profile Information don't expand after they are loaded like they normally do. Usually, it takes a few seconds for the vertical scroll bar to go away and for the info to expand on the page, but it is not doing that anymore. I checked on another cacher who has stats in his profile and his still works. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
  22. Things fit fine on my profile. Your problem is probably the extra stuff you included. See. A recent update to the macro fixed some of the problems. Try the new version. I doubt if it is the things other than the Find stats that I have on my profile, since Find stats at this point is the only thing that appears to be too wide. I am using an older version, so I will have to try the new version when I have time to get it set up.
  23. Is there anyway you can increase the size of the profile box just a little bit so the find stat generated stats fit in? That is a common application and I'm sure would help out lots of people. There is plenty of room on the page. As someone previously mentioned, much of the page is just plain white.
  24. All this talk about doing negative things to existing challenge caches is disheartening. If anything, challenge caches should be expanded and celebrated. When I go to visit an area, I know those are the caches I seek out and alot of other cachers do too. Despite all the shortcomings in the way the survey is written, I am glad it has been widely distributed via the local facebook pages so that more than just the narrow group of people who post here, will hopefully have a voice, as I believe that those who frequent these forums don't really reflect the caching community as a whole. Many people I know don't even bother with these forums because of all the negativity.
  25. It looks like some fixes have been put in. My pic that I have in my bio now re-sizes itself. I had to reload my profile, but it now no longer cuts off the bottom. The only problem I am having with it now is that the page is too narrow for the findstat statistics. If we could just make that a little bit wider, it would be a good thing.
