  1. It's a ding to you (or Google if you rather), and I guess there's nothing wrong with using Google - you either know 'em or you don't! Sorry if it was a bit hard for some of you.. And for those who haven't heard of them remember Streethawk? Near Dark? Risky Business? Thief? They did the soundtracks Ah, go get some and listen
  2. Oh, must have been after my time - I left in 1983 and they weren't up to date enough then for a lady assistant head! Question : Which long-standing musician originally studied sculpture, and worked with Salvador Dali before taking up synthesizers?
  3. I believe it to be Tom Sutcliffe.. To add some interest to the previous question, I am a former pupil (very former!) of Hardye's Grammar School for Boys in Dorchester - not a million miles from either Hardy's Monument or Hardy's Cottage.. Yes, there was a third Thomas Hardy, and they were all related..!
  4. the only issue I have ever faced while caching with dogbot is having to pick her up to cross a style after she's been wading in cow poo
  5. It seems to me that if it was stated profits should go to charity, to charity they should go. Another thought : is LOCOG passing on it's profits to Brazil to help fund the 2016 games? I rather suspect not.. Although it would be *amazing* if they donated them to charity..!
  6. Can't be beat.... unless you want to come by the maps legitimately... a full set of 1:25,000 is what ? about £5,000 to buy. (this is not a 'dig' at anyone, I have the full set of OS memory maps myself !) Area of the UK : 243000 square km approx 75000 square km of 1:25000 from Memorymap : currently £50.00 Go figure..! Less than the cost of a decent GPS - with lousy mapping..!!
  7. FTF Fever! Caused by poor quality cache placements of micro's in ivy covered trees. Why did you do that? Did it have to be a micro (they do have their places, but in an ivy covered tree is not one of them). The slogan of the Geocachers Liberation Front ... Every footbridge should have a regular underneath it. Every hole in a tree should have a small inside it. Every iron gate should have a nano hidden under the hinge. And every ivy covered tree should have a camoflaged micro hidden deep inside the ivy. And it seems, round here, every dog-poo bin...
  8. I think I've got an old Loox somewhere if needed..! Where there any slugs in it?!?
  9. Quite.. Heading up a major summit is definitely not a case of plugging in co-ordinates and setting off.. Map, compass, appropriate equipment/clothing - all essential items. And be sure you know how to use them! Have fun..!
  10. Hmm.. It's a tough job, and someone's got to do it.. I think they do a dadgum good job. In my various communications with our reviewers over the years, I have always found them to be fair, understanding, and to the point. They have to interpret the guidelines. Someone has to..! Let's face it, there's more than enough cache-litter around the country as it is. If you don't like what they say, talk to them. That's what they are there for, after all.
  11. I must admit I played with maps on my Oregon, but in the end reverted to OS maps with the MemoryMap Windows Mobile app on my old XDA. It has never let me down and I have the whole GB 1:25000 mapping on 2 8Mb microSD cards. Can't be beat, IMHO.
  12. The other way Glad you escaped unscathed..!
  13. Maybe they're practising getting lost? Another Chris Ryan book coming! ..or maybe they've got some trainees out on an exercise in the wild, and want to test their 'real' navigation skills..!
  14. Time for a 'needs maintenance' log?
  15. Maybe MrsB knows what whas going on?!
  16. Personally, I think this thread is due for locking. I am of the opinion that our reviewers do a tremendous job, and at the end of the day we are all human - Deci has acted as best he can, and he and the CO have resolved the problem between them. As for those who seem to have an extremely negative attitude towards the way our reviewers act - put up or shut up! Volunteer as a reviewer if you don't think the job is being done as you would do it... Though I hope I don't wind up in your area
  17. Hamsters are my number one choice when it comes to stuffing poor, unsuspecting creatures into caches but chickens are good too. I did rather hope that Hamstercaching would catch on more in the UK, I would still like to see a hamstercache in every county (hint, hint). But for the moment it's chickens and mine's not moved for ages. MrsB I just haven't found exactly the right location to keep the little guy comfortable yet..!
  18. Greetings! Born in Devon, brought up in Dorset, but nowresident in North Staffordshire - been tunnelling for the last 20 years but it never seems to work! I've done some cracking caches down your way - lovely part of the world I'll echo MrsB - good luck with them - and well done on holding off more before seeing how they go down - we get lots of newbies up here who do 3 caches and then pepper an area with caches that really aren't worth the effort of finding..!
  19. The trick indeed is to get the sender to label the contents as a gift. It's saved my bacon (sorry, pounds!) several times
