  1. Yeah, it seems like the smaller maps work fine. Wonder if the GC has less RAM than the 110. I've since settled for making raster maps, but I'd still love to have the vector map from maps4me.
  2. I've deleted everything off the unit that doesn't seem to be essential. There's at least 400M of free space, but I'm still having the problem. I don't think that it's a free space issue as referenced in the maps4me instructions for installing the maps. I'm not sure where to go from here...
  3. I've done the upgrade to my Explorist GC and everything seems fine. I'm having a problem with maps though. I'm trying to use the US South topo map from maps4me.net. As soon as I zoom in past the 800 mile range, it immediately flashes up the "Restarting device to improve performance" screen. I can get closer if I go through the firmware and delete unnecessary files, such as the demo and skins, so I'm assuming this is a memory issue. Anybody have any ideas? Mike
  4. The GC does have a photo viewer. You need to use VantagePoint to load the pocket query on the GC. VP will retrieve the photos when loading the caches.
  5. Yeah, I have the slow updates around GZ problem too...Is there anyone using an Explorist GC that doesn't have this problem? I'm hoping it's a firmware issue and not a hardware error. Mike
  6. I have the same problem. I'm running v1.4 of the firmware. Anybody else seeing this behavior? It's very frustrating! Mike
  7. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm really attracted to the simplicity of that unit especially as it meshes nicely with my auto GPS. I'm just afraid that it'll be discontinued or the manufacturer will go under and it'll be useless once the last update gets stale. I'd love to think that it they would update it to support pocket queries or .LOC files were that to happen, but I'm just gunshy after having bought cool tech with proprietary service before. (Anybody remember Sportbrain?)
  8. Hi All, New to the hobby and am looking for an entry level GPRr for my son and I to use. I have a TomTom One that I've set up to go paperless, but even with Offroad Navigator, it leaves a lot to be desired for actually finding the cache. Good for driving there and reference though. Something like a Etrex H would be perfect, but the need for a serial port or converter cable puts me off. I'm also very tempted by the Geomate Jr., but I'm afraid that something will happen to the company, or the product will eventually be discontinued and no more updates will be available. I'm looking for unit that is basic, like the Etrex H, but supports USB, like the Venture HC. The Venture HC is just a little more than I can afford right now. Is there a unit out there that I'm missing that doesn't offer much more than a compass and the ability to D/L .loc and .gpx files? Thanks, Mike
