  1. Who cares? This is supposed to be fun and not a competition. When I started playing I loved the game because of the intrinsic rewards. I have lost my enthusiasm for the "game" because the rules have multiplied due to demands of new players. Who cares?
  2. Virtuals had much more substance than challenges.
  3. I have had difficulty responding to or sending through the message center. What's up? I thought it was a pretty good idea but it is not functional or I am confused?
  4. I have sent messages that have not had a response in more than three weeks. Some are obsolete. How do I delete these from the file? I would like to say I don't like clutter but that is not true.
  5. I am glad to see that this is being addressed.
  6. I am trying to log a cache that I found on 12/26/15 and the calendar doesn't produce the date that I need. I try to type it in and it still reverts to 1/1/16. I don't care that much and that is why I am named baad daata. This is a new experience for me. I am hundreds of miles from the caches I found last week.
  7. It sounds like it hasn't happened to me alone. I get the banner and look for an e-mail. Nothing found. I try to write my local reviewer for some help and my e-mail privileges have been suspended because my account has not been validated. Somewhere I have been declared as "inactive" which is simply not true. I feel hobbled. I changed my password to see if that helped. Nope.
  8. You goofballs are hilarious. Some challenges are out of my reach and I have a lot of caches to choose from. Some require me to stay in a specific state for thirty days. Who wants to stay in North Dakota for thirty days? (Why do we need two dakotas anyway?)I would be happier with two "seattles". I don't place challenges that require you to spend time in a dull place longer than necessary. The "powers" have denied my attempts to publish caches in Utah that require more than 24K total finds because it is not reachable by most. How ignorant is that? Utah is a great place to visit and many folks, with more than 24K caches, pass through the area and would love to jump off the interstate and grab some some challenges but my reviewer says, " that is not a real challenge". I just looked at one that required 40 cemetery caches but they all have to be in Arizona. 25K is more attainable for most folks. Challenges should be fun and attainable. EVERYONE can get to 25K caches.....eventually. I will never do a cache that requires me to go to the space station or requires me to technically climb the highest mountain. Let us push for 25K.
  9. Powertrails have destroyed the fun of the game, the relevance of logs and have encouraged the "let us move on, we are wasting daylight" mentality. I do it but I am compelled by my competitive nature and not my good sense. Power trails have made a lot of money for Groundspeak but has diminished the quality of the "activity", but this is capitalism. I am losing my enthusiam for the game. We do what we need to to do to keep us "happy".
  10. I know that this topic needs to be merged with others. I have never worked with a search feature that is less intuitive and less helpful. I can't type in a keyword, the first word is often irrelevant. If you are going broke, up the fees and charge for services. Make this a toll road and make your searches useful.
  11. Why do you care? Do you want any idiot to find your cache let it go. If you want to seem clever delete the spoilers and move on. I have been in all positions. I have appreciated info in logs. I have resented logs that made a "great" hide too easy. I have hoped for log info to help me and other folks. It is supposed to be fun and not elitist. Those of us with 100 IQs should be allowed a playing field but it does not always have to be level. I was in Tucson this last week. There are several caches that have only been solved by one "genius". You have to wonder if this person is so much smarter than all of the other bright people in the area or if it might be unsolvable or if the the solver has inside information. Why is it so improtant to humiliate really smart people? I am not one of those folks. I look at puzzles and if I get a headache I go look for a lamp post.
  12. I did a search for "Arizona" and filtered for "events" and came up empty. I find the new search parameters to be non-intuitive and useless for a dumb-bunny like me. Does this all mean that there are no events in the state of Arizona in the next day, week, month or three months or....?
  13. If webcams are so unreliable why do we keep that small sampling annoying us. I try for every webcam that comes into my radar. These are in places that I may never visit again. It is very frustrating. Put them to sleep. I am going to Tucson, AZ and one of the two webcam caches is not functional and has not been available for quite some time. Evidently the "owner" is uninterested. Archive the stupid thing so it doesn't "keep coming up in searches". Why protect something that is a dinosaur?
  14. Who cares? I work hard to get to the numbers but it should not be the focus of the game. Play and have fun. See the old ones because the most of the new stuff is useless and numbers generated. Take your kids to stuff that is pre-2006. Ignore the power trals. They are tedious and have very little value in terms of substance.
  15. I am trying to find a cache with a "unique" name and I don't know where to look. At first I could look for it as keyword. Next it had to be the "first" word now I can't find a place to look for it at all. I don't know the location, GC code....... Am I out of luck? I don't find the new search features to be intuitive.
  16. I have been indtroduced to a "tape" that when stretched and looped over itself makes one magnificent bond. I bought mine at ACE hardware and at Harbor Freight. I is not sticky and looks like electrical tape. The roll comes with an interface of clear plastic between the layers of the roll. You just need to unroll and remove the clear plastic layer, stretch the black tape and wrap. It is pretty amazing.
  17. Is there a difference between a rule and a guideline? I had a reviewer deny a cito/container exchange event at 7A before an event beginning at 8A when the restarant opens. It provided and opportunity for folks to mull around and visit before loading two plates full of food, from the buffet, and sit with people they already know. Our reviewer called that "stacking". I called it something else.
  18. I hated challenge caches until I found about macros. The documentation drove me nutty. I now find them entertaining but not compelling. I find the downfall of geocaching has to be powertrails. I know of hundreds of players that won't leave the house for fewer than 100 smilies in a day. They will never see some of the places I have been. I have hiked 12 hours for two caches. I have done that in the company of 6-8 great folks with different hiking abilities. We helped each other and shared lunch on a bunch of rocks. I am drawn to powertrails because I am competitive and I cannot help myself. If they were outlawed tomorrow I would not shed a tear. I ignore challenges that are not practical for me. I have signed the log of a challenge in SD that requires an average of D2.0 and a T2.0. It would take me 10,000 5/5s to come close. One of my "friends" has put one within .25 miles of my home that requires having found caches in 13 different countries. I have found caches in three different countries. That also negates a challenge that I find the 10 caches closest to my home coords. Who gives a poop? I move on and continue to enjoy the sport in a way that works for me. (I can't call it a hobby). Outlaw powertrails not challenges.
  19. I requested a pocket query of my finds to update my GSAK files. I see that the query has been created but I am unable to download it so it can be useful. I can't run it again for three more days to see if it might be corrupted.
  20. I am trying to submit a new geocache and I have done this many times. My format is being rejected. What have I missed? Are there new requirements?
  21. I am trying to find out why my query won't download and if I can resubmit it before three days have passed. I need the query of "my finds" so I know if I have completed a specific challenge and can go in another direction. I need to know if I have enough caches with "pleasant" in the title to accomplish a stupid challenge. I can go back to an area with a bunch of "pleasant" caches or I can travel a much shorter distance to attack another target. What I really need to know is why my query won't download and if I can run it again since the one that says "ready to download" is not functional.
  22. I am trying to meet the qualifications for some "challenges". This morning I ran the query at the bottom of the PQ page, (it has been 72 hours since my last request for this info). My query shows in the "queries ready for download" but I don't get the download. It feels as though it may be a corrupted file but I would like that info ASAP. Am I stuck waiting another three days to try again or is there another way to retry and void the file that won't download? I have tried three different browsers and the result is the same. Zilch. I am trying to plan a short trip for the next couple of days but I need the info from the query to plan the direction of travel.
  23. There is a cache in my area that is a 2.0 terrain during the winter and a 5.0T during the summer. It is on an island after the snow melts and is "dry" about half of the year. The CO had been changing the T rating accordingly but he has lost interest lately. If I get a significant and challenging D/T rating I take a screen shot of my grid and date it. I have submitted the screen shot with my docs in a couple of cases. I also have explained my actions to the "challenge" owner.
