  1. i attempted a hide recently but had to shut it down (until i find a new spot) because my cache was 40 feet from someone else's final... as suggested to me, i would suggest to you to contact your reviewer and ask them first if the coordinates you want to use for your cache really are available.
  2. I thought about trying to include unapproved caches in such a feature, but in the case of multi's or puzzles & offsets....the real cache coords are not used in the cache page submission except maybe as a note to the reviewer...and it's those actual cache coords which are the important ones. It'd be too much trouble to try and scan the notes for coordinates that may not be in a format that you'd want them to be in..parsing the notes inotherwords. Not pretty in any progamming language. Best to leave it as a first come first served basis. but if something could be worked up, i think it'd really streamline the approval system and help everyone on both sides of the fence. [edited to add] unless of course the submission form was changed to include extra sets of coordinates for multi's & offsets.
  3. according to the little black book, the largest lithium batteries made (at least for here in North America) is 9v ANSI/NEDA No. 1604LC (Energizer L522) & 5045LC -- 1200 & 1400 mAh respectively. hope this helps.
  4. Which is why in my original post I suggested just a Yea or Nay kind of answer. But you are correct in saying even that could be used to zero in on something...argh. As already mentioned, limiting the number of queries per hour might help....hey, how about integrating it somehow into the pocket queries? ...set up a PQ to check availability of location x/y ....PQs are highly limited in their activity due to their nature already... Otherwise it seems that our only other recourse is to submit a blank cache proposal with just the coords posted and then wait until the location has been approved before actually putting together a cache and building a page for it. My experiences are discouraging to me. I currently see absolutely no use in spending time, money and effort on planting a cache until i can be guaranteed that the location i want is acceptable...and I doubt that is the way it should be played. The point though, is it's going to become a problem with the ever increasing saturation of urban caches. That leaves us relying on people who are busy, have lives and won't get back to you until they feel it's time. Sorry if it sounds negative. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually.

    My Approver...

    cool. thanks again.
  6. Ran into a problem recently which i'm sure many others have ahead of me where a cache you plant is too close to another which you don't know about. All that time & effort put into planting the cache and building the page for it...all for naught. So it got me thinking... How about having the ability to punch in a set of coordinates and have the website tell you if that spot is available for hiding a cache at or not...based on distance to caches that we can't see. It doesn't have to give away any info as to what caches are around or how far away...just a yea or nay for cache hiding. This would allow us players to sort of pre-approve a location before spending effort on it and then having to wait a week to find out it's no good. If this has been asked for already or previously discussed, then consider this a thread bump.

    My Approver...

I've been patient. I've bitten my tongue. But i can do this no longer. I think my approver needs help. I planted a cache on the 13th. I posted it to the queue on the 14th. It was approved on the 16th (so he's on the ball...i guess, or maybe he just teased me?) The approval was reversed pending the answer to a question which I replied to right away. It's now the 20th with no further word. What gives? Maybe we need another approver up here to help if he's so busy and has a life...? This is not the first time it has taken longer than a couple days to hear from him about a cache either...so i don't know. If others don't have a problem then maybe he's showing favoritism, or what? take this with a grain of salt. I'm just somewhat peeved and needed to vent. (and to thump a desk to see if some action would be taken)
  11. I accidently sprayed some Muskol (30% deet) on my garmin's screen...it didn't do anything. Most was wiped off right away but some was left on until dry before being wiped. no hazing or fogging noticed.
  12. How about a ROT-anything one? Which allows you to do ROT-20 or ROT-5 calculations... and maybe something that can reverse the text for you, spitting out sentences that are backwards. good exercises for you
  13. I wonder how the folks who don't like caching in a cemetary Cemetary caches would react to memorial caches...the places where people actually passed on as opposed to being laid to rest... sorry for the slightly off topic observation, but i couldn't resist. Personally i think memorial caches would be great. I've been thinking of doing a multi up here along those lines...There's a group up here called Our Angels In Heaven which give support to families who lost a loved one tragically...typically children. Each year on, or about, the anniversary of the creation of the group they organize a Memorial Ride and get a bunch of people together as well as the media and visit a selection of memorials and perform a service etc etc...for about the past year the group has been somewhat inactive (from what i've seen) so it looks like even the memorialers sometimes forget. A multi-cache would help liven everyone up again and fit right in with their agenda.
  14. is there an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel where we can chat real-time? if so, where?
  15. bumpity-bump-bump... gotta love those canuck speed bumps eh? (culvert ditches from deactivated FSRs and washouts)
  16. and all of us in this thread are in the lower mainland.... Craggers! Find any more caches with a Ding Dong lately?
  17. thanks fizzymagic....maybe i'll delve into it and get something going here.
  18. Ok, allow me to rephrase... The only waypoint projection that my GPSr allows is for you to lock it on a direction (based on the electronic compass which bounces around a lot and really needs to be level & stationary.....and whole degrees only, unless you are in mils) and then punch in a distance with an accuracy of 0.1 ..miles or kilometers....the margin for error involved for an 11 kilometer projection is quite unpalatable... Thanks for trying to help though....please keep in mind that what your GPSr can do is not always the same as what others can do. Besides...it's all moot anyway. I found the online resource that does it for me just fine.
  19. I don't run Windows so that program is useless to me. Hence the reason for not using it. (besides, the online method has been a helluva lot more fun!)
  20. I'd hate to have been the person conducting the interview up there...
  21. and in the end it all comes down to "If you make it, they will come..." so go for it!
  22. Now THAT is a milestone to be talked about.... WTG Lynn!
  23. I'm sorry to say but the link for The Washington State Geocaching Association provided by Gambrinus & Crew didn't help me...might have been a browser conflict with the calculator. Hit the calc button and nothing would happen. so I tried Cardinal Red's Great Circle Calculator and it did the job for me. And can I say holy crap! I plug the projected coordinate into my GPSr and away I went. It took me within 20 meters of exactly where I needed to be! (ok, so I read the decrypted hint...it was dark and I wasn't sure if I was going to even be in the right spot...) It was amazing. Sadly enough though, it was pitch frickin' dark in the bush and so I couldn't find the cache...but you can bet i'll be back there at first light hunting for it. Thanks very much for the help. For the curious, the cache is GCKPBY
  24. Nothing beat Enigma while night caching in the bush....
